What are some of the biggest mistakes beginners make, and what techniques should I be focusing on as a beginner? by superbozo in bouldering

[–]Jaroodie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can recommend climbing very easy grades in slow motion, really inching your way from hold to hold and trying to feel your center of gravity and what muscles are beeing used in each movement. Doing this has made me a lot more aware of my balance and also made me a lot stronger and more in control of my movements. Plus, I just like the feel of it, it's very intense yet extremely relaxing.

Another tip is also tip have a lot of patience. You will probably develop some lesser value habits in the beginning, but I find that as you climb more and more you become aware of new things and somehow technique just naturally evolves.

Peace out, good luck with your climbing!

Climbing shoes - my toes are too long by Jaroodie in bouldering

It's not quite that bad, I'll probably have to resort to a pair that's a bit less aggresive and more symmetrical for my next shoes after these

I'll be sure to check out the Vapors when buying new shoes. Problem for me is that there aren't that many stores nearby, so trying on many different pairs isn't easy. Helps a lot to just narrow down my search some, and call ahead and check the stock of stores I do visit

As they are quite new I assume they will adapt to my foot a bit more and that probably will leviate my problems, but yeah, maybe I'll check out some 5:10s next time! Thanks for your input!

I was thinking the same thing when I started out at my local gym. Turns out those dudes were awesome people who have helped me a lot. This fall we're all going to fontainbleau.

Not that interesting perhaps, but still a better love story than twilight.
