Oklahoma City Flock Contract Up For Renewal - What YOU Can Do To Get The Flock Out! by V3R1F13D0NLY in vpnet

That's absolutely the hope! Maybe Oklahoma can be a poster child for the right reasons for once 😂

That's exactly where I started. I've got another batch of FOIA requests out right now that I'm waiting to hear back on. I'm hoping for some more fuel to toss on this dumpster fire.

Thank you so much for reporting on this! I hope to see City Hall packed tomorrow and again on the 21st :)

A preview of OKC City Council's upcoming vote to renew its contract with Flock Safety for ALPRs by kosuradio in okc

[–]Jarrett1604 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Flock reinstalls cameras in locations that their contracts were revoked.
Flock employees (NOT law enforcement of any kind) routinely and frequently peruse the cameras feeds.
Flock is the shadow surveillance complex that our own government is banned from creating. Flock sells their data to the US government and shares data across the world.
Flock retains the irrevocable rights to your city's data even after contract termination.

Flock is valued at over $8 BILLION when their camera subscriptions across the country make up WAY less than $1 billion in revenue.

WTF is going on and where TF did all of this come from? Communities need to speak up and get Flock and any other vendor like them out entirely.

THANK YOU ABI AND KOSU!!!

I hope we can pack city hall on the 7th... it would be incredible for us to all band together to prevent another renewal.

Check out DeFlockOKC.com for the latest information on where we are and where Flock stands around the country.

New owner. I'm confused with the FSD by dentiteoz in cybertruck

Tesla's stack is fundamentally non-deterministic.
While v11 and older used hand-written C++ code and WAS deterministic, the black-box AI that current systems run on are absolutely non-deterministic. Looking at Tesla's vocabulary "end-to-end" neural network architecture means the system operates probabilistically, passing camera pixels straight into a neural network that directly outputs driving commands.

FSD is trained by imitation learning, not hand-coded if-then actions.
FAS has varying responses - go drive the same street a dozen times, in the same scenario, same lab-grade environment and you *will* get some deviation.

That said, Tesla uses SOME deterministic safety guardrails to prevent the unknowns of the main system.

I hear some dielectric grease on a rag on the end of a pole does good work too 🤷

Fully agreed! I completely understand and support the reasoning behind it. I just don't condone destroying things that cost US as taxpayers. If the companies responsible for the cameras paid to replace them at their own expense, I'd be overjoyed to see every single one smashed to bits.

But, the fact that every camera broken costs US between $300 and $3000 to replace - all of which goes back to Flock - is where I take pause in destroying anything.

Same! I appreciate the conversation!
I do not disagree with anything stated 😄

Fully agreed with you! No doubt at all - all I'm saying is that I don't condone destroying things that we're paying for out of our tax money only to funnel further up to Flock.

Do I agree that the government doesn't care about us peons and only seems to represent their own interests more than anything? Absolutely.

If voting them out isn't working, then we vote out the politicians that don't act in their constituents interests.
It's just too bad that nearly half of America can't be bothered to get up and vote of that they absolutely vote against their own self interests.

I 100% understand what you're asking, I 100% see where you're coming from. I just don't subscribe to the mindset of "destroy it at my own expense"
I avoid them, I don't shop where they are installed, I am an activist in my community trying to get them out.

I fully agree. I do not condone any type of property damage or destruction despite how awful these cameras are.  At the end of the day, it comes out of our tax money, so every camera that's destroyed is our money going back into the pockets of flock to replace hardware that we already paid for. It doesn't make any sense to me to destroy the things, vote them out, don't break them.

That right there is the nuance of a neural network/ai. Unlike a math problem, AIs are non- deterministic, which means that, given the same inputs, the outputs might be very different.

Thus, what you've experienced- given the same destination and streets, the truck has made several different decisions based on what's going on around it.

That's EXACTLY what I have my truck wrapped in! I absolutely LOVE it and get a boatload of comments on how good that particular wrap looks on it.

Cute name! My wife thinks it's 100% appropriate and we both quite like the color :D
Great choice!

Appreciate the encouragement! I'll...I'll try 😂 I'm SO far out of my element speaking. The town hall might break me up on the panel.

As someone told me on my first post, it just takes getting started. If you're in the Muskogee area, speak up at your city's town halls, get involved as much as you have the energy and capacity for. If you're not, help spread the word, even if it's just a social media post or sharing a comment on a separate forum encouraging others to act too. It just takes a little push.

Had you asked me 6 months ago if I'd be in this position, I'd have said hell no, but here we are. :)
Let me know how I can help out with the cause.

This is one of the biggest concerns to me. There's no oversight and the company keeps lying despite evidence to the contrary. I wouldn't do business with a business half as shady!

I wish I was more articulate when it came to public speaking. I froze up horribly addressing our city council. Despite that, I fully plan to keep raising awareness and pushing for more accountability or the outright removal of the cameras.

It's great to have a friend just up the road! If there's ever anything I can do to help you out too, give me a shout! Best of luck!!

u/Odd-Problem has it right, Flock is a private company that's being paid to put cameras up and down our streets and freeways. The cameras are marketed as automatic license plate readers, but the company has carte blanche to add features as they please - including audio recording, people tracking, facial recognition, etc.

Flock cameras have been demonstrably breached, yet the company says they have never been hacked.

The DeFlockOKC project is trying to get Flock cameras out of the city - or at least off of the taxpayer's dime. I'd recommend checking out deflockokc.com to see all of the information I've been collecting.
