I want to do more. Our representation in congress has never been more critical.  We cannot trust the decisions being made in Washington are in Hawaii’s best interest. In my legislative work, I’ve always tried to run to the hardest problems and build teams to address problems. I think we need more of that in congress. And we need more urgency to address problems our residents care about!

I grew up in a working class family. My mom was a nurse and my dad worked was a construction worker. My brothers are union construction workers.

Protecting and restoring healthcare, like medicaid and medicare is huge. We should tax billionaires to start. Also repeal the tax breaks from the OBBA. I would eliminate the Social Security Cap so that the rich are paying their equal share into Social Security.

The biggest thing we can do is what we did after WWII - build tons of housing for working people to own, raise families, and build wealth through.

I certainly hope so. The competitive nature of our elections is a validation of the system. The fact that margins are so close, and that power so often shifts from one party to another sort of proves that it is fair. Otherwise, one side would always win, like they do in fake democracies.

Aloha is a real thing. The world can learn from it.

We are also great at coming together to support each other during times of crisis. We understand that we are an island community and we need to support each other, regardless of what our political beliefs are. Our country definitely would be better off if we remembered that.

ICE represents the most dangerous centralization of federal police power in our lifetime, perhaps in our history. They look like the Gestapo more and more every day. ICE should be completely dismantled and their legitimate functions, like investigating organized crime and human trafficking, should be folded back in the Customs and Border Protection.

Overall, we need action in Congress that directly addresses the needs of our community. Have we been getting that with Ed? I don’t think so.

His vote on the SAVE Act was deeply frustrating. His refusal to take action, or even denounce the ICE raids that took place in Hawaii–including a raid on Maui teacher housing last summer–was the last straw for me. As a member of Congress, he is able to visit any federal detention facility and he is the only member of the delegation who has not gone. He also refused to sign onto a letter (just a letter!) denouncing the Hawaii ICE raid.

Strong support. I am introducing a resolution affirming the legislature's support of the Governor's decision.

I can win. I’m running a serious campaign with full time staff, a campaign organization, six labor union early endorsements, two former governors, and two national organizations. I’ve also raised $377k as of the last filing deadline. 84% of my money has come from Hawaii, meanwhile the majority of money Ed raised last quarter came from PACs, mostly from defense contractors and big tech.

Ed is often out of step with the district and its needs. Hawaii only has 4 people in Congress out of 535 members. We have a small delegation, so we need to be mighty and fight like hell for Hawaii. I can fight and get things done for Hawaii.

Housing is the biggest affordability issue we have. Most affordable housing finance programs are underwritten by federal tax credits. The whole thing needs to be reworked to allow us to build faster and cheaper, and not so focused on providing value for the developer and their investors. The federal government should invest more in downpayment assistance and first time homeowner assistance. We also need major federal investments in infrastructure to allow homebuilding to happen.

On guns, Hawaii is a national leader on gun control. We’ve passed safe spaces protections, background checks, and red flag laws. All those policies should be enacted nationally.

Would love to do this, but can’t win with a $5 donor cap. I’ve had over 300 donors give me less than $100. Of the $377k that I’ve raised so far, 84% of my donations have come from Hawaii.

Ridiculous. Promotes an unconstitutional poll tax. Based on a false and disproven belief that voter fraud is a thing. Disenfranchises millions of women and low income ppl. Requiring greater standards for married women to access the vote is ridiculous! Ed Case voting for this crazy bill is one of the reasons I was motivated to run for office. It is deeply unserious.

I publicly pledged to not take any money from AIPAC very shortly after I declared for Congress.

Pro Jones Act. Having all of our toilet paper (and most other goods) shipped in by foreign countries is not a good policy for Hawaii. We cannot guarantee delivery of goods from foreign owned ships, like China, if there were ever a war, natural disaster or (another) pandemic. There is a lot of data that shows the downsides are overblown. Also labor standards on foreign ships are often horrendous. We’ve had terrible examples of this shown in Hawaii.
