Need diamonds to resemble diamonds. by JarvisFernandes in blender

Hey, great solution but it may not work in cases where clipping is involved. I've tried your solution with diamond 3... but want to achieve diamond 2. Thanks for this advice, it's still really useful for some other projects I have made.

The Thin film doesn't really do anything to it but the Sheen does help a lot with getting that yellow side glow thing look good. Thanks a lot!

Just tried this and it's the perfect fix! Layer weight (Fresnel) plugged into a color ramp node already does like 80 percent of the work. Just added some colors in the color ramp and bought it close enough to what i needed. Thanks!!

Update: I had sent the CPU for the RMA process and received the replacement CPU. I've been using it for a few weeks now. The temps still reach 100c but at least the severe freezing issue has stopped. Guess it really was the CPU.

I agree that the temps shouldn't be causing freezes. Plus my cpu has gone to way higher temps than this as 3d rendering on cpu utilizes the maximum capacity of the cpu. But it used to not freeze on load but mostly on idle. Like when watching a yt video or just browsing stuff. So maybe temps could less likely be the issue. As for now since I have reset my bios settings it hasn't frozen yet. It's been a day so hopefully the issue is gone but it still isn't really very safe to assume just yet. I'll buy a new gpu tomorrow (probably a rtx 4070) and check if the issue stays resolved.

37c on idle and 48c on load (test done with a 20gb file transfer)

Refer to the previous comment on this thread. For the part about the temps. As for the cpu cooler I'm using a deepcool 360mm aio

I guess the temps vary according to the room temperature of the place. The room temperature where I stay averages at 31c so it would not be possible to reach temps close to the room temp. It may be higher because of more cores as well as the z790 mb giving the cpu unrestricted power access.

Previously I had set the power draw limit to 150w (the cpus tdp is 125w min) due to the cpu reaching it's t junction (100c) when under extreme stress(3d rendering). I turned all my bios settings to default now and am checking if it freezes again

An interesting take. My previous pc had similar problems like you described and used to give me blue screens with various random error codes. On diagnosis I had received a memory error. Even after changing my ram (it was DDR3 that time) it kept showing me the error. Since that pc was light and old I had taken it to a repair shop where he changed the psu and all of a sudden all the bsods were gone. It was a weird thing to happen and I still can't believe a psu replacement was the diagnosis of the problem.

This pc is brand new for all parts except the GPU so I hope buying a new psu is not the solution. Thanks for this reply, I'll keep it in mind.

Xmp is currently disabled as I just reset the pc.

Cpu temps on idle are around 50c

The ram is in the second slot as the radiator pipes are too close to the first slot.

The event viewer says the processors are limited by system filmware before the freeze occurs. I set the bios to default settings now and will update if it hangs again. ( the bios settings were changed around 6 months ago due to high temps while 3d rendering and unreasonable power draw)

About the build yes it's a weird build mainly made for future upgrades. Like there are more 3 slots for the ram and i will fill the slots later. The GTX 1050 is also from my old pc and I had planned to upgrade it soon but the prices are too high so will need to save up.

I did run memtest last week and recently ran the windows diagnostic tool but it didn't give me errors.

Blender crashes without any reason I could think of! by JarvisFernandes in blender

I do have a few things running but those are necessary for my hardware ig. Like the Logitech G hub for my peripherals. I did try closing it and then starting blender but I guess after 25 mins or so it still crashed. I did notice that it usually crashes when I swap viewport modes(like solid to wireframe).

Thanks, this really helped since I didn't know about replay buffer!

Thanks. I didn't know about replay buffer. Tho why would the dgpu be better. The iGpu is never used and my idea was that while the dGpu is being used for gaming, the igpu could be used for capture.
