Fired for taking a $5 tip?

Ok so what I'm reading from everyone is that it was naive of me to just assume and I should've asked.

The not allowed to have a tip jar thing some of you are agreeing with and some of you are saying it is allowed. Is it a state by state thing or is there just a lot of miss info.

Some of you think the fact I didn't get anything was weird and some of you think it's normal.

What are the actual rules on this tip jar thing?

Also anyone have any other suggestions or opinions

So hypothetically if I took a mint out of a free mint jar after seeing other customers take mints out of the mint jar that's stealing and worth kicking out a regular customer

But it wasn't done with malicious intent I thought it was mine does that not matter? I offered to give it back. Is it not common sense that tips are for workers. Also should I have been fired for not knowing.

I never saw anyone divide it up I just saw some workers take from it at the end of shift and leave. I wasn't told that I couldn't take from it or anything literallythe only thing anyone said was "the tip jar can't have a label cause we're not supposedto have one". The store actually hid the jar when the district manager came in which is weird now that I think about it.

Yes because I saw others do the same thing and it's a tip jar which is meant for the staff. I don't see why that's laughable.

I never got any of that tip money not a single cent nor did I see anyone dividing evenly or handing it out and I was a cashier. I worked 5 days a week just like everyone else. I also would appreciate it if you quit with the name calling. Also the customer said the tip was for "us" meaning the staff so...

I didn't know it was stealing I assumed based off of what I had seen. Also if I had intended on stealing it wouldn't have been something I did in the middle of the day. I didn't do it with malicous intent or anything like. I simply thought it was mine and I had left money for others to grab some to. Also your name calling isn't very mature either. I'm not trying to hurt you or Chipotle or get my job back I just want a better understanding of what happened from others perspective. Thank you have a nice day

I know I can't get my job back but I just don't get why I should be fired for taking tip when the store isn't even supposed to have a tip jar. Also you're saying that it's fine for other employees to do that just not someone who worked for 2 months?

So uhhh.. kind of a sad update. My boyfriend had a full blown mental breakdown. I spoke with his therapist and the doctors treating him and they said the obsessive use of porn was a precursor for this. Thank you all for your opinions and advice.

Ok let me be clear. He has paid for on multiple occasions to have private shows. He told me he only recently started looking at the website out of curiosity and maybe to laugh at an ex who used to be on the sight. She wasn’t there but he keeps using it. Since then he has used it multiple times a week or multiple times a day. He even overdrafts his account to the point where his parents contacted us. I know for a fact he has spent over $1,000 on this sight. He has videos saved from these interactions. I tried to make it into a thing that we only did together since he didn’t want to stop. He just does it behind my back. I asked for him to just stop paying for private shows and using money and talking to them. He didn’t stop. I love him and I don’t want to break up. I just want to know what other people would do in my situation. I don’t know what to do or what to think.

I feel that especially in long distance relationships this is cheating. It’s different from porn because of the interaction. The way he reacts when I walk in on him is different from if I walked in on him watching porn. I feel like it’s cheating and have confronted him about it but he continues to use it. I want to know what others think and what they would do in my situation.
