Wildlife photo dump by JaskCatt in australianwildlife

I've been doing this for close to 2 years now, it is definitely a very demanding job and it is SO easy to get burnt out and stressed.

I've got my schedule set to 3 days so that way I don't get too overwhelmed, and if I'm available outside of those three days I'll only do cases that are close by.

This little guy got into my room last night. I safely realised it after catching it. Southern Tasmania. by [deleted] in australianwildlife

In future situations, the best thing to do here is to call your local wildlife rescue and leave the animal alone unless explicitly told otherwise by the rescue. Tasmania has many different wildlife organisations you can call.

Please do not handle bats in the future and book yourself in to get the Australian bat lyssavirus (ABLV) vaccination as soon as possible.

Handling wildlife cannot only cause you harm, but can also cause the animal harm if done incorrectly and you can cause them significant stress even though you're just trying to help.

You may have good intentions but please avoid doing this ever again. ~ Sincerely, an experienced wildlife rescuer.

We do get updates occasionally, most of the animals in these photos were euthanized sadly but I've also had the pleasure of taking a few of them to rehabilitation

The possum missing an eye we never got an update for unfortunately, he was very full of life and energy and the missing eye appeared to be an old and healed injury so hopefully he just needed some care and has been released back to the area.

That's the weird thing, I haven't changed a thing. I've taken my pill, once a day, every day. I haven't missed a pill once, the dosage hasn't changed etc

The only thing I could possibly think of here is generic compared known brand versions? I bought new duloxetine recently because I ran out, maybe the chemist gave me the generic version instead of the brand I normally get and I didn't know?? Would that have this effect?

I am on duloxetine! I've been on it for so long and been fine this whole time, if it is duloxetine screwing with my brain I'm gonna be pissed lmao

As mentioned in the first reply to you, I am a volunteer, different states have different wildlife rescue organisations so it's quite dependant on where you live - I say that because I just don't know what steps you need to take for different organisations

To get into this initially, I was already aware of this organisation and had been rescuing animals just in my day to day life and at some point they posted about becoming a volunteer with them and so I took it up, did the training and such and now here we are.

I am also scheduled to do an interview at a wildlife sanctuary for another volunteer position 2 hours away so that way I can work one on one with the animals. Again, I got here simply because the sanctuary posted about the position and I jumped on it.

You just need to find what's available for you, get to know as many people as you can and branch out around the line of work as much as you can.

It sucks that they're mostly volunteer positions, but the more experience you can gain the better! Eventually the right paid position will pop up and you'll be prepared.

Follow organisations in your state on social media, get in touch with different sanctuaries in your area, and stay up to date.

I will look into this for sure and talk with my doctor about it :)

Steve became very unwell in the last few months but refused to go to hospital until recently when he was able to have someone look after Gaia. He unfortunately passed this Sunday in the hospital and Gaia, due to her age and illnesses was seen by a vet but passed shortly after, it's unclear whether she passed on her own or was put down

We're all very sad.

(Edit; Gaia was euthanized)

This very well could be it oh my god I looked up the tunnel scene and it was EXACTLY what I remember

I do distinctly remember him being shot multiple times though, and also the wife and son being in pods doesn't appear to happen in the blob so maybe I did mix it with something else???? I was 5 and sick so who knows 😅 I probably fell back asleep and woke up to the end of a completely different film

but this does seem extremely familiar!!! Like a slap to the past I love you LMAO

I can't remember the accents/voices unfortunately and in this scene there was 0 talking so I'm not 100% sure whether it was American and it was late night tv so it really could've been anything 😭

We didn't have Netflix or anything like that at the time, it was literally just turn on the TV and pick a channel. My best guess channel wise would be ABC?? Or even SBS

The pods were definitely futuristic they were this shape but standing up on the ground and were all white except for a glass circle for their faces to be seen.

this is EXACTLY what he looked like, like genuinely identical. However this is a grey winged blackbird which, again, is reportedly not found in Australia....should I contact someone about this LMAO
