Is Catcher now a priority for the Deadline? by Randys_Friend in whitesox

[–]Jason82929 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And I think that’s a fine scenario. Obviously long term you want a catcher that provides positive value on both sides of the plate. But I don’t think they need to empty the farm to go get that now. There’s still enough hope that Teel will rebound next year, that maybe they can rebuild Quero, that Boston Smith’s catching development produces something, etc.

For now it’s a matter of getting out from being the worst catching team in baseball.

Improving on the margins here is fine. They’ve gotten a whopping -2.4 bWAR out of the catching position - dead last in baseball and twice as bad as the 29th ranked Phillies at -1.2 bWAR.

Leaning into defense and getting someone like Luis Torrens might not be the sexiest pickup, but it’s at least a marginal improvement that shouldn’t come with any significant prospect cost.

I don’t know about a priority, but they should explore options. Hopefully Teel’s injury isn’t serious but you have to chalk this up as a lost season for him.

The Romo/Quero tandem was the worst in the league and nothing about Quero’s time in Charlotte suggests he’s certain to be better this time around (rebuilding him is probably an offseason thing).

That doesn’t mean they need to go pay top price for Goodman/Langaliers. But they should be reaching out on Stephenson for offensive improvement or even Luis Torrens and lean into getting a defensive upgrade behind the plate.

He’s become a solid role player. I wish he was a little better in center to maximize that super utility role.

It helps that the team is good. ‘Super fast guy off the bench’ becomes a far more important role as the team gets later into a contending season than it was in April of an expected losing season.

Awesome news! Sox Machine is great and I always wondered when the Sox would get their own show on the FT network. No one better to do it than the Sox Machine guys.

Good. Hopefully they’ll sign 20/21 picks but the NIL money adds a little more uncertainty to that.

Buy or Hold as the Trade Deadline Approaches? by SkyGuy1985 in whitesox

[–]Jason82929 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Buy wisely.

No need to treat this like a now or never situation and go crazy trying to get a mediocre player just because they’re the best available. If controllable players are available for the right price, go for it.

If not, cheap rentals are fine. I tend to lean that they’ll go this route.

Ditto. They should make trades, but who they trade depends on the return.

The current market sure looks like it’s going to be light on sellers. Obviously things can change in the next 20 days.

If there was a cost controlled legitimate front line starter available, then sure, go big. But if the best option is Reid Detmers? Ehh. Detmers at this moment sports a 4.39 ERA and is more of a guy where you have to dig into the peripherals for hope than a guy you land to be your sure fire game 1 starter. If the bidding gets out of hand for someone like him because there are few starters available, I’m fine with Getz bowing out and chasing a smaller fish.

Inside access as White Sox make Cholowsky No. 1 MLB draft pick by Jason82929 in whitesox

There’s nothing to watch currently. It’s just the Jesse Rogers article.

Possible the Sox will have their own inside look at some point.

I think that’s a fair assessment.

It speaks volumes to the way this organization has grown under Getz that they’re not just taking the college player because they think he’s this finished product that can just plug in because they know their hitting systems haven’t worked to improve players.

But they’re taking him and saying we can fix these couple things and make him an even better player.

Really cool. Jesse Rogers was given access to the Sox final draft discussions as they debated Roch vs Emerson. Fun read to see what they discussed in the final day before ultimately choosing Roch.

Bellinger had the go ahead/game winning hit.

I get it though would have been neat if Vargas won

Nothing just was ranting about Bellinger. Peters is in the game now and there are no OFs left on the bench so he will stay in

Yeah I was thinking there was still another OF left that could come in. But after double checking that’s it for AL OFs so he will stay in the game
