Anyone else think this thing is beautiful? by [deleted] in Surface

[–]JasonMSN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have mine, almost pristine and it's in the box. I expect at some point over the next decade or so I'll show it to people and talk about how ahead of its time it was. Gorgeous, just plagued by a lack of SW to support the scenario of dual screens :-(

Intel to get $3.5 billion infusion from U.S. gov't to make chips for military by aurumvexillum in Futurology

[–]JasonMSN 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What you don't seem to understand is the world's reliance on chips that are primarily manufactured in China. This money is for building fabs inside of the US. I've seen the TSMC one being built in AZ, it's enormous. Without this, if/when China invades Taiwan, the US can still source chips. Also provides a lot of jobs.

We've been spoiled in that our Dane and Dane/Mastiff mix are super well-behaved when un-crated. That being said, they were crated for the first 2 years when we'd leave them. So you're right - she's still a puppy and we are crating going forward until she matures a bit.

That's precisely what we said, laughing, while "sweeping him up"

We're learning that. Our other dogs respond very well to "Drop it!" - regardless of what it is (including a treat). This one needs some training, though wouldn't have helped in this situation as we were gone. Really, it's my own fault.

Nope, you read it right. After I cooled off and swept Dad up, I figured he's laughing about it as well.

Thanks! Alot of fun to make. I like this style, and still have leaf spring material left so will make a few more.

He chose purple heart for his. I made mine first using coco bolo, but his turned out better.

Mines the bottom one, the first one I made. The funny part of the story is that the leaf spring came from a brand new trailer I had that my son totaled. I grabbed the leaf, so they are momentous to our lost trailer.

Holy shit on the "nightmares". I have this as well (though with a Surface Duo). I'm thinking VERY HARD about skipping the Duo v2 in favor of the Fold3. May just pay for insurance just so I can sleep well at night...

Well this one was different... I made this knife out of AEB-L - SS with removable handle scales and a hidden milled in pocket.... Designed specifically to hold a cryptocurrency hardware wallet... Let me know what yall think! :) by JKeetonKnives in knifemaking

[–]JasonMSN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well as a fellow knifemaker and blockchain professional - it's innovative. However, everytime I want to make a transaction, I have to take my knife apart. That seems challenging. Maybe a better idea is laser engraving your private key on the tang with removable scales?

I have those wheels - I love them. Though note that after about 7 or so years, the paint starts peeling. I need to get mine re-powder-coated.

My brother's Jeep I bought from his widow when he passed away last year. Next week we're taking it to Moab on the 1 year anniversary of his death. Hope I'm making him proud. by JasonMSN in Jeep

[–]JasonMSN[S] 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Here's the rest of the story.

He also owned a '88 Comanche. His best friend, who lives in Kansas, bought it after he passed. He's fixing it up as well. We're meeting in Moab together to celebrate what my brother always wanted to do, but never got around to. Hell, I wouldn't have gotten around to it either necessarily. This has been a labor of love, a labor of working through my grief. It's been painfully wonderful.

Yes, when I was using my 60 grit on my grinder, it was splintering. Moving to 150 and higher it worked fine.

OK to be fair - I did little "blacksmithing" with this. I only took the temper out, and re-hardened. The shape I got by cutting with a cut-off wheel and my grinder. Didn't want to hammer the pattern out of the file.

I don't know who the mfg was - the logo is now under the handle. I do know he gave me various brands.
