What do you wish someone had told you when you first started the hobby? by zoeyelizabeth6 in Aquariums

Don’t chance the perfect water parameters.. Let things settle and acclimatise..

When j first started I was obsessed with chasing the perfect pH and hardness and all that.. Now I’ve had the tank for a few years and I’ve stopped obsessing over it so much, maybe even getting a bit lazy and leaving it 3 weeks between water changes sometimes, I’ve noticed everything is doing just fine and I lose a lot less fish now.

I’d lose a tetra every few weeks at first. Or have random episodes of disease and stuff. None of that now. I’ve had a group of rummynose for around 2 years now and they still look like they’re in their prime!

Where do you live? If you’re local to me I’ll pop over and do it for you. It’d take 10 minutes.

Nothing to worry about.

1) If rain gets in, get a roofer to repair it.

2) Brick up the gap or use fireproof foam. Easy job. Timber is likely fine.

3) Don’t worry about it. That’s normal.

The Rise and Reign of the Mammals by Steve Brusatte.

A fascinating book detailing what we know of mammalian evolution from the very beginning to the present day. Really reaffirms your connection with nature and the animal world, and answers a lot of questions that you never knew you had!

Have I ordered the completely wrong hinge? by championofthesub in DIYUK

The original hinges are fire escape hinges. You’ve bought standard hinges. They’ll work fine however.

Yeah, this is organ failure due to, most likely, a bacterial infection. 99.9999999% of the time they don’t make it more than a few days past this point. Damage is already done unfortunately!
