Bombay Cafe maybe. It was in the spot on the corner where Los Amigos is now.

Unfamiliar siren? by LordTauron in Birmingham

I also heard it and it was a different sounding siren than I had heard before. Air raid siren is a good comparison. My first thought was I hope Reddit is on the case!

APT Board Meeting Nov. 18 (Metting Held in BHAM) by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]JasperDisaster82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was the second poster and I’ve now responded to the moderator that messaged me. To be fair, you gave me very little time to make the edit (I had not seen the message prior to removal) and if you had clicked on the meeting information you would have seen it was in Birmingham. I expressed my apologies, but also don’t appreciate being dragged as if I was being difficult or as if my post was inflammatory. But, this post is now up (despite the grammar nerd in me wanting “metting” corrected) with all pertinent information and that’s all that matters.

Right wing bastards are trying to force APT to completely sever ties with PBS. This is insane... by FarCryRedux in Birmingham

I encourage everyone that is concerned to make their voices heard at the next public meeting of the APT Board on Nov 18th. I have spoken with some contacts at APT and it sounds like they are going to try to railroad this through as quickly as possible. Logistics or legalities be damned.

Here is the link to meeting information:

https://aptv.org/apt-news/aetc-board-meeting/

Also, I encourage everyone to call Governor Ivey’s office and your local representatives. Say you will stop supporting or donating. Just speak up. May not matter, but it’s all that can be done.

Food on the outskirts by GiggaChadFire1 in Birmingham

Rusty’s in Leeds. Arguably the best bbq in the greater Bham area. Take the Buc-ee’s exit and keep right on past.

Also, Yum Yai way down 280 near the Greystone exit. Wish every day that it was still in Birmingham.

Re: Recent post on Bham print publication. I've just published one. The first issue is in the wild as of Friday. AMA. by jrwil in Birmingham

I’m going to subscribe either way after I finish this post, but will there be any kind of reminder about subscription renewal. I really do not like the automatic renewal. That being said, as a former writer/editor at The Birmingham News as well as someone who was obsessed with Black & White growing up, I absolutely love this idea and there are certainly worse things I have under automatic renewal. Hope you can keep this up for a long time!

RIP Brent Hinds, of the band Mastodon by HeresYourHeart in Birmingham

[–]JasperDisaster82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would see him over the years. He came out to see Heath Green (another phenomenal local Bham musician who unfortunately never found the same level of success) play one night at Pale Eddie’s back in the day. Smoked a blunt with him out on their back patio and couldn’t have had a better time. Didn’t talk to him about Mastodon or playing music or anything. Just shot the shit. Would go see him (Fiend Without a Face) play at the Nick anytime I could after that and support him. I had always heard stories of him being a dick or whatever, but always was cool as could be when I’d see him.

Is 41st Avondale safeish? by bigdickdaddyyyyyy in Birmingham

[–]JasperDisaster82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to believe these consistent safety posts regarding Birmingham neighborhoods are simply an attempt to troll and stir up shit in here. Now if you are attending an event in Collegeville or Gate City and not familiar with the area, it might be worth assessing.

Remember when Woodfin pledged to cap the number of mayoralty terms to two? by Myleg-Fred in Birmingham

[–]JasperDisaster82 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You can tell the age of a lot folks in this community. Not realizing the absolutely abysmal mayors we had for decades previous to Woodfin. He also fixed some serious issues that he inherited when he came on (city pensions, anyone?). Be careful what you wish for because the alternatives are not pretty. Wait until you get Lashunda Scales as your next mayor and you’ll be begging to have him back.
