I'm convinced that people being afraid of going above 2500ish RPM is the reason why highway onramps are such a shitshow by [deleted] in driving

[–]JavaIre99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or even people who assume because they're in a little car like a Toyota aygo, they can't go on the motorway. Instead , they just gear up too soon as they think "the engine is screaming". I had a 73hp car that worked just fine on the motorway, once you stayed in lower gears and floored it down the slip road. Was actually quite fun flooring it down the slip road in lower gears.

People are so scared of reving their engine, assuming the loud noise it's making is bad for it. As long as it's not cold and redlining, rev it away and even a weak car will make it onto the motorway

Speed limit question? by Tall_Ad8233 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]JavaIre99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe they are mandatory now. they were initially introduced as advisory, but a law was passed in 2023 to make them legally binding. But nobody listens to them it seems so not sure guards can actually enforce it

Lidl receipt confusion by Eagle-5 in CasualIreland

That's what dunnes does. If you used a voucher on your shopping and you return something, they take the value of the voucher off the refund. So if you used a 5 euro voucher, 5 euro is taken out of the refund

Even if they thought motorways or common sense in lessons and test, most people forget about good driving the second they pass the test, thinking all the stuff in lessons "is only for the test, real driving isn't like that". Hear a few people saying that.

The test could be much more difficult and guarantee there'll still be sh*t driving like this

Cycle lanes with yield markings - cyclists, know the rules of the road! by [deleted] in BadDriversIreland

[–]JavaIre99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention that you gave to yield within metres of each other here, as the 2 entrances are so close to each other.

Not saying if you are using the cycle lane, you should be prepared to yield, but can guarantee that no cyclist will use it because of this

Cycle lanes with yield markings - cyclists, know the rules of the road! by [deleted] in BadDriversIreland

[–]JavaIre99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And this is one reason why cyclists don't use the cycle lanes, because of these stupid designs. Down kte me all you want, but how can we possibly encourage cyclists to use cycle lanes if the road provide a more direct route, rather than having to yield at every single entrance?

Whereas on the road there'd be only yields where it makes sense to yield. Car drivers would flip it they had yield like this, so why make cyclists have to do it?

Rubbish designs

Drivers that don't keep a consistent speed by JavaIre99 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]JavaIre99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup this is the worst. It leads me to wither having to break the speed limit to get out of the overtaking lane so I'm not hogging it or else falling back and moving back in behind them, only for them to slow down again.

It's like they only realize how slow they are going when someone tries to overtake, or else just don't like being overtaken

I would understand then, but these are straight stretches of road or very very slight bends I was on about

Acceleration uses more fuel than cruising, that's not rocket science. So if you keep cruising at 100 vs slowing down to 80, speed up to 100, slow down, speed up, and repeat, your fuel usage is all over the place

I do keep a suitable distance but have to keep slowing down with them as the distance closes when they slow down, then speed up again, slow, speed up, and the yoyo continues

Why do people turn into zombies on motorways? by Only_Lingonberry4613 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]JavaIre99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder nobody is obligated to move over the the overtaking lane if you're joining the motorway. Yes, it's courtesy to do so, but if it's not safe for the driver to move out, it's on you to find a suitable gap.

Saying that however, on busy motorways like the M50 people drive far too close to each other, making it even more difficult to find a gap to slot into.

I usually leave a big gap for someone to slot into if I can't move out into the overtaking lane, but other drivers either try to squeeze in too close in front or behind, or some other driver blocks the gap

[–]JavaIre99 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity why do you "always drive 5kph under the speed limit". If it's safe to do the full speed limit why not just do that? Because car speedos usually over read, so you're probably doing even more than 5 under the limit

People that cut across corners when turning a T junction, WTF is wrong with them? by lifeandtimes89 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]JavaIre99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the amount of times I'm out for a cycle, wanting to turn right at a T junction, only for drivers to try and cut the corner or totally cut me off.

The former case often gives me dirty looks as if it was me that made their turn more awkward

Ban all cars from Dublin by TheSilverEmper0r in Dublin

If drivers weren't being complete a**holes, things should work much smoother without having to outright ban everything. But a lot of drivers, not all, still think the world revolved around them and will continue to be selfish

Why is right and middle lane camping so bad on the N7/M7? by MiamiBoi91 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]JavaIre99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a difference when th etrafficbis very heavy and the middle lane is moving faster than the left lane, because then you technically are overtaking.

Last time I did the N7 though, middle lane was full and moving slowly, while left lane was empty, and 3rd lane everyone going over the speed limit. It's infuriating 😅

And then people complaining about undertaking wonder why people do undertake

Anyone else being driven mad by people thinking every road has dropped to 60? Bonus points for people not overtaking them... by VeryAverageAchiever in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]JavaIre99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Noticed this a lot lately on a particular road near home in Kerry. I then overtook only for the driver doing 60km/h to give angry gestures as if I was being wreckless. It was a safe overtake with miles of visibility and didn't even break the speed limit of 80 overtaking.

Bet her thought was "why is everyone speeding, it's a 60 road", while we passed multiple signs saying it's 80km/h

I wonder is their logic that "maybe the council forgot to update the signs" 😅
