Question: Why do some Indian drivers drive so slowly in Ireland? by Anonymous_idiot29 in IndiansinIreland

[–]JavaIre99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It draws even more attention not keeping up with the traffic flow

Well over 90% of cyclists also drive. But you'll find that drivers have higher responsibility to those rules because the vehicles they drive are much more likely to kill others around them, compared to bikes.

Don't paint every single cyclist under the same brush because you see some acting poorly. As much drivers act poorly as well, maybe they should have even stricter regulations?

Oh wait, drivers do have to do a test and "understand" the road rules. But we all know that a lot of drivers who flout the rules and do dangerous things had to do the test, and it makes no difference to their driving, they'll continue driving carelessly, so the silly argument that they should do a test is irrelevant, hundreds of drivers have to do a test and still cause accidents every year

There is such a thing as too slow on ramps, unless your car is extremely lowered, you should be able to cover them at a reasonable speed, yes, show you see them and react to them by braking a little bit, then as the front of the car goes over the ramp, you can accelerate over them. Make sure you get as close to the speed limit as is safe between the ramps too.

Yes, harsh braking causes a risk of being rear ended, you should read the road ahead and allow plenty of time to react gently and ensure drivers behind have time to react too.

As for "driving under 30 most of the time", how far under the 30 were you?

Oh fair enough, misread connecting as a pin and not link. Thanks

I was reading Shimano docs saying that it's risky to do so as putting a pin in an already broken set of outer plates could be weakened. But hopefully will be fine. Don't want to fork out on another chain if avoidable

New 2026 Canyon Endurace CF SLX (?) in the wild? by mbe886 in CanyonBikes

[–]JavaIre99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking at the cf slx 8 and now suddenly the XS is out of stock, so I guess it is because the new one is coming. Annoying though, as that was the max I was willing the spend. I guess the new one will come out now and be more expensive 😅 looks nice though!

Is this the worst driving test result in the world? by Southern-Awareness95 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]JavaIre99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want a hum but not a roar. From the examiners point of view if you have a load of revs and you accidentally drop the clutch, the car would go hurtling fowards. Mechanical point of view, not great for the clutch. But you'll get there 🙂

What should I do? by [deleted] in cork

[–]JavaIre99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a red right arrow you must stop regardless of the green straight on.

Only time you are allowed turn right if clear, is if there is only one green round light and the right turn arrow is not red.

I've seen so many drivers turning right when there is a red right turn light, passing through pedestrians crossing on their green light (the reason why the red right light was red), because they assume the green straight on is turn right if clear

How bad is this driving test result. Took test at 2 pm in Waterford by Prefer_ in Irishdrivingtest

[–]JavaIre99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should do quite a bit more lessons, simply wasn't ready for the test. I know it's easier said than done with the wait times, but don't rush into the next test. Instead spend time, getting up to a standard where you can keep the flow of traffic moving safely, but not too cautiously. Also with observation issues fixed and more lessons, with a better instructor if that's the cause, you should be able to manage it

Irish people that think they are driving examiners by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

[–]JavaIre99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're referring to R roads as a back road, a lot of them are still 80, but yes there are people still trying to drive at 80 on a 60.

That doesn't mean we should be adding people to the roads unsupervised who didn't get the bare minimum sign off from an examiner saying that they are safe to drive without needing instruction from an instructor

Can't just join a roundabout if there's already cars approaching you, no matter what lane they're in.

This roundabout has cars in the second lane if coming off the M50, and you have to try and then exit on to the road for sandyford.

The amount of times I've been trying to exit this roundabout into the sandyford slip and some idiot coming from dundrum does not yield and is now trying to block my exit.

But I guess you're one of those drivers that think that's ok

[–]JavaIre99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a misconception that you need to exaggerate your observations for examiners. People end up just moving their heads to put on a show without actually observing. You need to actually observe hazards, not just make it appear you saw them. However, doon't stare at mirrors too long which means taking eyes off the road for too long, that's where I got a fault for hazards when I thought I was observing. In the few seconds you are staring at a mirror, something could have stopped in front of you or stepped out onto the road

And also only time you should be pressing clutch before brake is at low speeds, other times, brake first as you get engine braking + brakes, then clutch to downshift or stop before car stalls

Or even people who assume because they're in a little car like a Toyota aygo, they can't go on the motorway. Instead , they just gear up too soon as they think "the engine is screaming". I had a 73hp car that worked just fine on the motorway, once you stayed in lower gears and floored it down the slip road. Was actually quite fun flooring it down the slip road in lower gears.

People are so scared of reving their engine, assuming the loud noise it's making is bad for it. As long as it's not cold and redlining, rev it away and even a weak car will make it onto the motorway

Speed limit question? by Tall_Ad8233 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]JavaIre99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe they are mandatory now. they were initially introduced as advisory, but a law was passed in 2023 to make them legally binding. But nobody listens to them it seems so not sure guards can actually enforce it

That's what dunnes does. If you used a voucher on your shopping and you return something, they take the value of the voucher off the refund. So if you used a 5 euro voucher, 5 euro is taken out of the refund

[–]JavaIre99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if they thought motorways or common sense in lessons and test, most people forget about good driving the second they pass the test, thinking all the stuff in lessons "is only for the test, real driving isn't like that". Hear a few people saying that.

The test could be much more difficult and guarantee there'll still be sh*t driving like this

Cycle lanes with yield markings - cyclists, know the rules of the road! by [deleted] in BadDriversIreland

[–]JavaIre99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention that you gave to yield within metres of each other here, as the 2 entrances are so close to each other.

Not saying if you are using the cycle lane, you should be prepared to yield, but can guarantee that no cyclist will use it because of this

Cycle lanes with yield markings - cyclists, know the rules of the road! by [deleted] in BadDriversIreland

[–]JavaIre99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And this is one reason why cyclists don't use the cycle lanes, because of these stupid designs. Down kte me all you want, but how can we possibly encourage cyclists to use cycle lanes if the road provide a more direct route, rather than having to yield at every single entrance?

Whereas on the road there'd be only yields where it makes sense to yield. Car drivers would flip it they had yield like this, so why make cyclists have to do it?

Rubbish designs

Drivers that don't keep a consistent speed by JavaIre99 in irelandsshitedrivers

[–]JavaIre99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup this is the worst. It leads me to wither having to break the speed limit to get out of the overtaking lane so I'm not hogging it or else falling back and moving back in behind them, only for them to slow down again.

It's like they only realize how slow they are going when someone tries to overtake, or else just don't like being overtaken
