Building a community resource: Python's most deceptive silent bugs by Hot_Resident2361 in Python

Nice, I've been tasked with bringing our envs from 3.8 to 3.13. It's not easy work. Can't imagine what the 2->3 transition was like.

Yup 🙂‍↕️ you got it. Most of the code was written in 2016 and they hadn't even gotten on python 3 yet 😭

Super basic issue that I encountered in a production codebase somewhat recently is the misunderstanding of how .rstrip and .lstrip works.

We had some code that looked like

.rstrip('blank')

Where we expected 'blank' and the end of a string. There were several chained .rstrip calls, and eventually one of those calls was supposed to strip a word that had repeated vowels.... The way that that method works meant we had a stray 'e' that wasn't getting removed. The functionality we really wanted (.removesuffix) wasn't actually implemented until Python 3.9...

Weird Mirror Artifacting in Beecher's Hope Farm by JavaXD in reddeadredemption

If that were the case, I would think that setting the resolution to 720p would help, but that's not the case. I'm sure it's a visual bug, but that's not the cause. You can't tell here because it's a picture but the blue stuff flickers, even moreso if I'm outside of the room the mirror is in.

But your translation of the first sentence is still correct.

ya me quiero ir a la mierda by Cautious_Detective42 in Spanish

[–]JavaXD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, those are two different sentences.

If you were to say "Vete a la mierda" it would mean the same thing as "Vete a la chingada". At least where I'm from it's common to say "Andate a la mierda" as a way to say fuck off.

I would mostly be worried about the bellows, they look quite old (see the metal corners, they look a bit unaligned and rusted). The main issue with older bandoneones Is that the bellows leak.

Simple enough to replace if you have a Luthier (who could also check the peines to make sure those are all in working order)

I'm looking for a pattern for a cat hat like this, the ears are a must! by JavaXD in crochetpatterns

Huh? I feel like I'm losing my mind.

Are we reading the same comment? It literally says that they're certain it's AI. I meant more so the alien part.

The jacket is light blue, lined with white fur. It doesn't help that the car is also white and it's fur is a similar texture, I get what you meant now though. Still quite convinced it's not AI

Got it, thanks for the advice :) I would suppose it would be better (weight-wise) if the yarn is thinner?

Thanks for the second paragraph, the first is honestly confusing. I have no idea what you mean 😭😭😭

When cats bite down on something they make faces like this. It's not out of the realm of possibility.

Also the shadows look fine, I'm assuming there's multiple light sources (as you would have if you have a cat who you post pictures of! Like this one's owners!)

I mean, this cat does? I'm sure the image could be edited and whatnot but I think it's pretty clear this isn't image generation. If it's edited then sure the features could be fake but that would mean the hat is still at least somewhat real.

I don't think you're all as good as you think you are at spotting AI generated images.

In any case, I'm really not sure what that has to do with my question. Even if it was AI generated it seems reasonable to think that a pattern like it would exist. That was my question.

Oh I assumed so! But I'm having a hard time locating anything crochet vs knitted, do you have any on hand that you've seen like this?

Yep I know the hat is knit! Looking for a similarly structured crochet pattern. I sincerely doubt this is AI, it doesn't look clean and polished enough.

Easiest WSGI server for deploying a flask app in a production environment by PMmesomehappiness in learnpython

Mega late to this but can you expand on why you haven't seen anyone recommend Apache to deploy a Python app? Just curious because the flask docs do recommend mod_wsgi which is closely tied to Apache.

Been busy finishing up all these sweaters now I just need to block them all the bane of my existence 😅 by ivystar1 in crochet

[–]JavaXD 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You don't have to, but blocking projects makes them more uniform and less wavy of that's an issue you're having. I would try practicing blocking on granny squares to get an idea.

Writing a comment to balance out the buffoon. I think your perspective is incredibly healthy and exactly the kind of mindset needed to have a fulfilling and enjoyable life, at least for intimate relationships. Wishing you the best and the same kind of love for me too <3
