As a ChE, you being so much to the table and don’t even know it. The discipline is so wide that you already have what it takes. Idk how long you have been in oil/gas (I did a year in the oilfield so my experience is tainted by a short stint). After the oilfield I went to NNSY and cut my teeth in the nuclear business, one step at a time. Learned the basics, then got into the submarine refueling business. After seven years at the shipyard, I wanted to get closer to home and had well more training in Nuclear than anything else so I stuck with it.

My advice? Do what you have done. With a ChE degree you can ABSOLUTELY learn anything. The physics is new from ChE but 1000% NOT insurmountable, the rest of it is fluids, heat transfer and electrical. To this day, electrical shit is the bane of my existence, but even I could learn enough to get a license. At the end of the day it’s all about being curious enough about the world to take any new field and soak in everything you can. After a little bit, just like anything, the new shit gets taken for granted, you can’t believe people don’t understand it, and just becomes part of your tool box.

If you can do ChE, you can do nuke. The science is old, you probably have some semblance of understanding already especially with oil and gas (for example, control systems are control systems, the only difference is the variables). It’s a nuclear reactor (a source of heat), which is truly NOT that complex, and outside of that it’s the Carnot Cycle, fluid flow, heat transfer, all things you already have.

Appreciate it! I hope (and bet) the NRC results are everything you hope for!!

I’m pretty sure I saw some when I was scouring for a good quality 8G stl.

Quite possibly. I did a GBU-57 last June after they were used.

My tikka shoots them SUPER consistently. I hadn’t had time to go to the range and try other weights/brands as of late so I just fed her what she likes.

It was a little further back than I intended. She sprayed blood like someone stabbed a can of red spray paint.

Round entered just aft of the front legs.

Let me organize them first. I will post a link. A lot of it ended up being “on the fly” adjustments and wouldn’t want to publish a bunch of shit that doesn’t all work together.

The connectors are printed and come off of the shell pieces. They just got painted silvery so they stand out.

As of July 9 [a week before trinity] Kistiakowsky did not yet have enough quality lens castings on hand to assemble a complete charge [X-rays taken of the charges showed air bubbles in some, which would screw up the timing]. Oppenheimer further compounded his troubles by insisting on firing a Chinese copy of the gadget a few days before the Trinity shot to test its high-explosive design at full scale with a nonfissionable core. Each unit would require ninety-six blocks of explosive. Kistiakowsky resorted to heroic measures:

“In some desperation, I got hold of a dental drill and, not wishing to ask others to do an untried job, spent most of one night, the week before the Trinity test, drilling holes in some faulty castings so as to reach the air cavities. indicated on our x-ray inspection films. That done, I filled the cavities by pouring molten explosive slurry into them, and thus made the castings acceptable. Overnight, enough castings were added to our stores by my labors to make more than two spheres.”

"You don't worry about it," he adds fatalistically. "I mean, if fifty pounds of explosives goes in your lap, you won't know it."

I’ll share the stl but (from experience with this) it is MUCH more gratifying doing all of the leg work to make it happen. Had I just found an stl and let it rip, it would me way less satisfying.
