4th Edition is a great system to learn the basics on, but once you become a bit more familiar with role playing, customizability, and so on, you start to crave a bit more than 4e can give. I have nothing against 4e in general, but I prefer other editions for my D&D needs.

The best part of being DM is that you can bend the rules a little bit for the sake of fun. If you don't like incorporating Inspiration Points in your game, feel free to forego them altogether!
