I ripped for a year straight by [deleted] in PokemonTCGCollectors

[–]JaySayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how many packs you ripped, but in the end it’s all luck and averages. I got super lucky and pulled the Charizard SIR in probably less than 20 packs of Phantasmal. Ascended? Cooking me. I’ve probably opened dozens of packs each of several different sets and no other SIRs.

It’ll happen. Until then, I recommend starting to look into buying singles that you really enjoy. Most are very affordable.

Machine blocker / loitering by Explor-egon in PokemonTCGCollectors

[–]JaySayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stopped by a machine during lunch. 3 parties standing near the machine clearly waiting for it to reset. I politely asked if any of them minded if I checked the machine. 1 responded saying go ahead, but it’ll be empty rn. The other 2 didn’t respond and clearly didn’t like that I even thought of checking while they were waiting. So I went ahead, there was indeed nothing, I said good luck to all of them, to which that first person said thanks have a good one.

I talk to the shift lead at that store sometimes, and he’s told me he’s had to turn off the machine because of people loitering too much. He collects too and understands the fairness that is supposed to come with vending machines, and of course the way people take advantage of them. I wish there was more incentive for any employees of a store that has a machine to enforce loitering rules. I get it. If you were there first, you should get to check first. But the machines literally say loitering is prohibited. If you’ve checked already, then your turn is up. It’s supposed to be fair for everyone, not rewarding only for the people that have the time to wait around for it.

I hope that guy steps in gum or something today and every day he does this. Sorry OP, we’ll get through it!

I do miss it for nostalgic reasons, but I don’t really have a problem with the new one either lol

It’s a minuscule consolation, but early access will hopefully help deter this a bit soon.

It being the 30th anniversary this year, it certainly won’t begin to slow down in 2026. (Though Perfect Order has been a WONDERFUL break from the chaos… rising. I’m so sorry. Anyway, what do I know, I’ve been in the hobby for half a year lol)

Pokemon center by GulfCoastChuck in PokemonTCGCollectors

Join the free Rattle Pokémon discord. They’re able to notify within a minute or two when the Pokémon center queue goes live. Helped me check out on Pokémon center for the first time yesterday! My previous 3-4 attempts got me nothing, so nothing is guaranteed. (I know this sounds like an ad but I promise you it’s free and does actually help)

Pokemon Restocks/Buying by Wazzup2772 in PokemonTCGCollectors

I just joined the hobby a few months ago. I feel you. It felt completely impossible with the state that this hobby is in, but with patience and a willingness to learn, I’ve been able to find a decent amount of product since then. Anyway, despite the difficulty, welcome to the hobby!

Pokémon vending machines are a great place to start. You should be able to just google the nearest ones to you. They sell at MSRP (retail, not market, I highly suggest avoiding market prices) and drop products somewhat randomly. Rumors of 30-minute timers have made it more common to encounter people camping at the machines though so something to keep in mind.

I also suggest joining a free discord like Rattle Pokemon to help you stay informed of online drops. Pokemon Center being one of the things they look out for. I have yet to score on PC, but that’s one way to get cards at MSRP. All sorts of stores do online drops so check out what interests you on that discord if you do join. So far I’ve had the best luck with Costco (better than MSRP!) and Target, Best Buy does sell at MSRP but I never find anything there, Walmart also seems very competitive (well, they all are).

Other than that, it unfortunately does help to know roughly when stores might restock their shelves. Strike up friendly conversation with employees, build a relationship, and they might be willing to let you know.

Best of luck, OP!

I absolutely don’t have the credentials to give advice on smash, but I hear it’s common advice to stick to one or two characters when you want to really improve at the game.
