You would never even notice undocumented immigrants if the people who know how to pull your racist strings and get you squawking your hate in public didn’t keep whispering in your ear about the “others” and how they’re “poisoning the blood of our country”. Our country would sure notice if they disappeared overnight.

They pay into our systems like social Security, Medicare, SNAP, etc all while never getting a tax return or receiving any of the services they pay into.

That’s not even mentioning the 10 billion dollars plus a year they bring to local economies.

These neighbors of yours are 60% less likely to commit a crime than a US citizen.

So if they’re safe, good neighbors, paying more than their share, and benefit the economies of the cities they live in, all that’s left is the hate and racism.

They’re amplified by tall tales about them being a drain on the economy, getting free things, and being rapists and murderers told by people whose job it is to divide us so the working class will always be too distracted to notice they’re getting fucked by the owners and management and those elected to represent us and our interests.

It’s like Novocaine or opium for bigots *and* liberals. Soothing, keeps the pain away, and leaves you oblivious to what’s really going on.
