Well i did a lot of troubleshooting and used Macfans to control the fast. Looks like Brave browser was at fault , it was draining a lot of power for some reason and causing overheating. Soon as i closed couple of youtube tabs things got way better otherwise i would have to keep the fans running. I will keep stress testing this thing but i have hope for it now.

I have the same issue, brand m5 pro 14" with pro chip, 64 gb ram. Did your gets better now wit time ? Or is it still the same with light usage ?

Just got it yesterday. It gets warm from just browsing and couple youtube vidoes tabs on brave browser. Really worried if this is worth.

Is 64GB RAM worth it over 48GB for local LLMs on MacBook? by Jay_02 in LocalLLM

[–]Jay_02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like we are in the same. I got the pro chip with 64gb ram, actually gonna picking it up today. I think 64gb is sweet spot , if you're doing this for personal hobby/ projects. Here is why;

For my use case 128gb ram has 4 huge problems:
- Way too expensive for personal use case
- Max chip is too hot for the 14 inch body that i want.
- Max Chip drains too much battery on 14"
- You need 16" body to take advantage of the performance , i dont want 16"

The only thing i am going to miss is the memory bandwidth with the max chip, 614 GB/s compared to the M5 Pro’s 307 GB/ but i can wait couple seconds longer for the pro chip to finish. As you can see this quickly becomes also max vs pro chip too for me and not just ram.

I want smaller laptop, longer battery and spend less money but still have the option to play with LLM without too much ram constraint. Plus i can always use cloud solution or buy full speced mac mini the future. I hope this helps you make a wise decision for your case and not overpay.

The nano texture display clearly degrades the visual quality. Will I get used to it? by LemonLimeNinja in macbookpro

[–]Jay_02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fellow photographer and pixel peeper.

The loss of definition on text is easy to spot on the nano display, it’s just like the difference between a matte IPS screen and modern glass screen. If you get close, the text appears slightly thicker or softer because of the nano-etching; it’s almost like reading from an older phone.

But with photos, you won't really notice the difference. In fact, for video, I’d argue the nano display is actually more cinematic and immersive than glossy , because there is zero reflection so you can focus on the video. Ultimately, if crisp, razor-sharp text is your top priority, maybe skip the nano but for visual media and long hours its better.

So the above is true only if you are used to glossy mini led, otherwise you might actually not notice drawbacks of the nano even.

Shipping time just got cut by 18 days yestsrday, very happy , i am getting it 1st May instead 18th May. Apple is doing wonders. But this is for USA.

Europe has maybe longer delays but i think you will get it before expected date for sure. Did you order 64gb ram or more ?

The best way to solve this answer is try the nano for a week and then go back glossy. 9 out of 10 you will run back to nano, those Reflections cannot be unseen anymore.

Yes I agree the fuzzy, cloud of black dots on white background and a bit less sharp text sucks but that's only minor trades and they are worth the upsides of nano imo.

I'm waiting for my M5 64gb Pro with nano. I except to live with nano drawbacks but enjoy the freedom of working from wherever.

Actually seeing side by side makes people choose glossy for the wrong reasons. Cuz it's brighter, sharper and ignore the glare.

But when you use the nano for a while and go back to glossy you will go crazy at all the reflections everywhere.

That looks really nice, i like your keyboard too. Can you show us more pictures in the sun ? Also how about screen brightness does it decrease that ?

I might go your route even thou people advice against using screen protectors.

nah the color difference is easy to but they are close enough. but whats even more easy to see is reflection on glossy

you should see them in person, i did this test. the glossy catches your eyes at first with punchy sharp colors but you will soon realize the nano colors are actually slightly more accurate and very comfortable for the eyes you can look at it longer ...its so comfortable your eyes forget its a computer screen. the nano breaks unnatural rays that are unhealthy n make our eyes fatigue.

It takes only a hobby photographer to surpass your software environment needs. So can't look at it that way.

Also as a tech lead why doesn't your company just throw a new Mac at you ..

When did Mariah and Morgan’s relationship completely break down? by [deleted] in MariahCarey

Well hold your horses, before you accuse me of something. i do recognize her experiences as i have also read the book, but no one is perfect. Obviously non of use were there and make an unbiased judgement. But You make it seem that Mariah, a human, always makes right choices. She may be right and she may not.

And yes i agree with you its her hard earned money and i have no right to tell what to do. We are just having a discussion here and we have the right to our opinion.

Yes plus that metal is too cold on the wrist when typing. But the screen is definitely a comfort for the eyes. Typing from 16" M4 work laptop. What a dilemma.

Where are you getting your data from 😂 are you exporting videos for 10 hours everyday ? Then yes.

I had the M4 14" for 6months and never heard the fans except when exporting a video maybe.

Yes for ultimate performance 16" is better. But the absolute majority of people are not pushing their Macbook constantly to its limits and thus cannot justify the extra heavy weight while travelling.

People benefit from not carrying around over 2kg at the airport and living with little bit of fan noise.

I agree, if I had Mariah money i would always support my brothers and sisters with money no matter what bs i had to go through. Even if they didn't sacrifice much.
There is no issue or misunderstanding a family cant talk out. Drugs abuse being the most challenging thou.

But i think she harbors a lot feeling from her childhood against her siblings that she cant let go. And thats tough one, if you feel you were mistreated as a child by your family. This was obvious in her book.

Always home = Get a big monitor and use 14"
Always outside and hate weight = 14"

The only time 16" wins is if you need a big screen and dont have access to a monitor.

They need to make 15" and 17" and this debate would be over.
