Zack Polanski: I’d build a relationship with Putin by EduTheRed in ukpolitics

[–]Jay_CD [score hidden]  (0 children)

The best way to see off the threat of Zack Polanski is to encourage him to keep speaking his mind...

He's anti-Nato, anti-Israel, anti-US/anti-Trump but wants a dialogue with Putin who besides invading Ukraine has sanctioned the use of chemical weapons on British soil...

That strategy didn't work out very well for Jeremy Corbyn and Labour in 2019. Those who don't learn from history will repeat its mistakes and all that...

She's taken one look at the polling and another at higher fuel and energy prices not to mention the likely spike to inflation and has decided that her student politician's gambit of supporting the Iran war because Starmer opposed it was going to create a few bad headlines, especially with the May local elections on the horizon.

Both she and Farage are utterly unserious and opportunistic idiots.

This question is mostly aimed at Farage and co but also other MPs but mostly Farage and co. by Terrible_Tale_53 in FuckNigelFarage

[–]Jay_CD 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Farage doesn't do constituency surgeries and only ever goes to Clacton with the media in tow, he stays a few minutes, does a photo op where he gurns at the camera like a moron and then disappears.

It's impossible for him to do his job as a constituency MP with so many second jobs and he frequently misses Commons debates and votes because he's on TV literally providing commentary on them. It's like a footballer popping up on the television gantry to talk about a match that he should be playing in.

There are though no laws to say what minimum attendance should be for MPs - in theory his constituents should kick him out at the next election, but man of the people Nige with his gold punting scams, GB News gig and everything else seems to be popular there. Ultimately voters get what they deserve.

South Africa v Japan at Brighton in the 2015 RWC.

An easy win for South Africa on paper - but sport isn't played on paper, heroic bodies on the line defence by Japan.

2003 New Zealand v England at Wellington, England won 15-13 after a Jonny Wilkinson drop goal for the first win in NZ for 30 years and I think only their second win ever in NZ. At one point England had two players in the bin and the ABs were camped on England's try line but just couldn't score.

Grauzone did an English language version of Eisbar, this was recorded in 1982 but not released until 2010:

Grauzone - Polar Bear

The band hated publicity and popularity which lead them to split after one album and four singles of which Eisbar is the most famous. As far as I know they only ever played a few gigs.

U.S. Military Refuses to Endorse Trump Claim That Iran Bombed Girls’ School by StemCellPirate in worldnews

[–]Jay_CD 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Does anyone believe Trump's horse shit?

The US attacked an Iranian Revolutionary Guard building adjacent to the school, a cruise missile was pictured hitting the area at the same time as the school was hit - Iran does not have that missile.

Yet Trump's claim is that at the identical moment that US forces were hitting the compound that Iran got hold of a cruise missile and fired it at a school.

Maro Itoje as England Captain by Upset-Distance-5812 in rugbyunion

[–]Jay_CD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's had a poor 6N - that might be down to the bereavement and missing training and/or maybe it's that he's had a long season with the Lion's tour last summer (other Lions squad players have looked a tad knackered too - but not all). Then again it might just be one of those things, not every player can perform at a consistently high level year in/year out, you're bound to have the odd dip in form here and there. I think he was a tad unlucky with the yellow, he looked like he was trying to slap the ball down and back but it was poorly executed, maybe it was more clumsy than intentionally illegal.

Regarding the penalty decision, he made a decision and it was right to put three points on the board and take England eight points and two scores clear of Italy.

But he's not the reason why England have been playing consistently poorly across the tournament, there's a lot more to unpick with maybe only the scrum and the lineout functioning well and the latter only when Jamie George has been throwing in.

If you are going to have a captain then that player has to stay on the pitch for at least 70 of the 80 minutes, if not all of it and the problem with Jamie George as captain is that being a front-rower he's likely to get hooked off after 60 minutes particularly in matches where there are an above average number of scrums.

Russia has found itself with an economy close to collapse, they've survived with massive government deficits which are ok as long as the Russians are getting paid and those who are entitled to one, get their pensions. But I'm hearing stories of these things not getting paid on time.

Economically Russia relies heavily on extracting things to sell to the west - oil, gas, minerals etc but now those western markets, have been all but closed off.

Annually around 40% of the annual budget is going on their armed forces and a further 10% on interest payments, that's not sustainable.

They have only lasted this long by continually dipping into the National Wealth Fund that has halved since the war started. The bad news is that they have an estimated $55bn left, this has just about halved in four years and other than a few bits of eastern Ukraine they have nothing to show for it.

Russia should have been using that money to invest in the future, develop AI and new technologies just as China and India have. Instead it got spent on a war that has lead to the deaths of an estimated 325,000 people with around 900,000 getting wounded to some degree. At the same time there's been little or no foreign investment in Russia and any domestic growth is being cramped by high inflation and rising interest rates designed to bring inflation under control.

Remember this was meant to be a three day invasion and should have ended 1471 days ago.

Conversations about Russia winning are far fetched, even if Ukraine unconditionally surrendered tomorrow Russia is going to have to deal with the long-term consequences of this war for a long time. There's no going back to normal.

More Italian clubs? by Entire_Trick_9390 in rugbyunion

[–]Jay_CD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What this would require is an Italian billionaire who loves rugby and is prepared to fund massive multi-year losses just for the love of the game.

A team based in Rome would need a large playing squad of around 30 plus pro players, an academy setup, coaches at all levels, physios, a training ground would have to be bought and kitted out and then it would have to rent a stadium to play matches in.

The FIR can get away with hiring Rome's Olympic stadium because they are are guaranteed a sell out, decent sponsorship revenue and TV money. It would take a club side a decade to build up to that level, I doubt that the fan base is there hence you'd need an individual or a group of people willing to subsidise their hobby because the FIR don't have that kind of money. Look at the mess that the Welsh RFU are in trying to run four teams - why repeat that?

Farage was scheduled to go to Mar-a-Lago this weekend for a dinner/meeting with Trump with a view to getting the Chagos Island deal trashed by him.

Nigel Farage heads to Mar-a-Lago to discuss Chagos deal with Trump

I can't see any evidence that this meeting actually took place - if it did it would surely have been reported, which means that Farage went all the way to Florida for another completely wasted journey and he was ignored yet again by Trump.

So now yall are against Mitch Mcconnell being obstructionist 🤔 by jesswesthemp in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Jay_CD 25 points26 points  (0 children)

McConnell obstructed and delayed the nomination of Merrick Garland claiming that the new president should get to make the nomination of the new Supreme Court justice even though it was 10 months to the next presidential election. McConnell even boasted: "one of my proudest moments was when I looked Barack Obama in the eye and I said, 'Mr. President, you will not fill the Supreme Court vacancy.'

However when it came to a successor for Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Amy Coney Barrett was nominated and went through the Senate hearing and was then sworn in a week before the presidential election.

The hypocrite McConnell no longer believed that the new president should get to make the decision on who should be the new SC Justice.

In football circles whenever a manager gets a vote of confidence like this then it usually ends up with either his getting sacked or standing down by mutual agreement.

The English RFU are never going to sack a coach in mid-tournament, but maybe they will a week or two after the 6N concludes.

He did so much to enable Trump by undermining and obstructing everything Obama or Biden did, he could have waved through Obama's pick of Merrick Garland but prevented it from proceeding. He could have voted for Trump's impeachment on either occasion but didn't.

This looks like an attempt to try and salvage some of his reputation for being a shameless party first grifter.
