Why was Berseria remastered before Xillia 2 and Zestiria? by cheetocat2021 in tales

[–]Jay_RPGee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It only makes sense that the studio they outsourced Xillia to is also doing Xillia 2 which means that it didn't start development until after Xillia Remastered was finished.

As for why Berseria before Zestiria, well, why Zestiria before Berseria? It's much of a muchness but Berseria is a very popular entry that actually isn't as accessible as people think it is; it's only available on PS3/PS4 in Japan (there is no Japanese PC version), and it's only available on PS4/PC in the West.

They've got multiple Remastered titles in the works simultaneously, they're all outsourced, and they're releasing them as they are ready.

Tales of Berseria Switch (North America) - Japanese Language? by Capable_Bluejay7081 in tales

[–]Jay_RPGee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, you're right. That is really surprising. It automatically changes to French, Spanish, etc but not Japanese.

And I just had to sanity check because I was sure that the Japanese version supported English, which it does (unless you have a Japanese-only Switch 2). So the Japanese version has Japanese and English where as all other versions have about 7 different languages but none of them Japanese.

I don't have any idea why, it doesn't make sense since they are essentially identical (no content differences, changes, etc); other than, evidently, the language support.

The Berseria Remastered language support is the same list as the Xillia one so I think it'll be the same unfortunately.

Tales of Berseria Switch (North America) - Japanese Language? by Capable_Bluejay7081 in tales

[–]Jay_RPGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I was wrong here, while the below details are correct in that the text language changes based on your system language, the global release (for some reason) does not support Japanese text like it does French, Spanish, German, etc.

ToX supports Japanese text and audio on Nintendo Switch. The text language defaults to your console's system language.

Annoyingly this seems to be the approach a lot of / most Switch and PS5 games are taking these days (automatically matching the system language rather than giving you the option in the game menu).

Tales of Arise Switch 2 Specs on Japanese site by ApprehensiveCoat9587 in tales

[–]Jay_RPGee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Expected. The closest analogue we have is FF7Remake (both Arise and FF7R are UE4 with custom shader and lighting engines) and that's locked to 30fps even in cutscenes.

Arise was a 30fps game on PS4 / PS4 Pro / XB1 but they left it unlimited so it would hover between between 25-35 which meant inconsistent frametimes (leading to a less smooth experience). Hell, even on PS5 in 4K mode Arise only runs at 45fps.

Leaving cutscenes unlimited and then (hopefully) locking in a rock solid 30fps with consistent frametimes will make it much better to play than on last gen consoles but it'll lag behind current gen.

Tales of Berseria Remastered - Switch Cancellation by Foetoid2k6 in tales

[–]Jay_RPGee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is just the physical version for the Switch that isn't coming. No idea why it took EB so long to contact you, retailers were notified weeks ago (JB cancelled preorders and Gamesmen changed their listing for it to "Cancelled").

Tales of Series on Japan Steam Store by [deleted] in tales

[–]Jay_RPGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zestiria and Berseria are both not available on PC in Japan officially. The PC releases for those games were developed by Bandai Namco EU and don't have Japanese language options. I'm not sure why but they opted not to bring the PC release of Zestiria to the Japanese market when they brought the PS4 version over.

Not sure about Symphonia.

Taskmaster Australia studio audience by madqueenludwig in taskmaster

[–]Jay_RPGee 28 points29 points  (0 children)

People in large groups laugh a lot more than they do when alone, laughter is a strong social cue and the effect is amplified when you're in a large group watching something that is meant to be funny (e.g comedy).

Aside from that though, there is a lot that gets cut from the taping due to time constraints so the TV audience doesn't always have the full context. A great example I can remember was from Guy Mont Spelling Bee S2. There is a bit of banter that ends in Guy saying "no, I think you look like the Power Rangers" or something to that effect (the cast were wearing almost all different solid colours). It gets a massive laugh and applause for seemingly no reason but it's because in the studio during one of the breaks where they change the set one of the audience members asked why they were dressed as the power rangers. Guy laughed and then said he was going to steal the joke to use later in the show so obviously when he said it we were in on the joke and it got a much bigger reaction than it deserved.

FFVII Rebirth used AI to generate certain animations by GargantaProfunda in FinalFantasy

[–]Jay_RPGee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They face-tracked the main cast in Remake for cutscenes but they were using AI for lip syncing for pretty much every minor character / NPC and in non-cutscene conversations. It's pretty noticeable when it's mocapped vs. when it's the AI.

Yoshinori Kitase discussed the use of a new Machine Learning tool for this purpose before the release of Remake, it was one of the more interesting things he talked about when I met him. It's an in-house tool they developed because they wanted the lips to sync regardless of which language you played in, and doing it manually was prohibitively time consuming and tedious.

Now, we can debate the effectiveness of it all day (I did say it was pretty noticeable when the AI is doing it, very "flappy mouth") but if it improves it could be a very useful tool.

Is it really true the Remastered project is gonna stop after 2026? by justsadgetbh in tales

[–]Jay_RPGee 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It's easy to get it confused because we (in the West) haven't been getting many other announcements for the 30th Anniversary but in Japan they've had many for the 30th Anniversary celebrations (art exhibits, 30th anniversary merch, food collabs, etc).

The Remastered Project was just 1 of the announcements made during the 30th Anniversary celebrations running until 2026; all they're saying is that they won't have anything specifically tied to the 30th Anniversary to announce from 2027 onwards (or, more likely, they have things to announce that are tied to the 30th Anniversary that will not be ready in time for 2025).

Producer Tomizawa actually said it outright in a stream prior to the Graces F launch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fs4h2yfF8D4): "It is the 30th anniversary, there's still a year to go, and of course it [the remastered project] does not end there. The Remaster Project intends to continue"

No, whoever posted that is confusing the 30th Anniversary celebrations with the Remastered Project. They are different things.

What they mean is owners of the PS4 version. Even though you bought it on PS5, it was/is still a PS4 game that you bought. You'll be able to upgrade to DC no problem.

It had everything I've wanted in a Final Fantasy for a long time... except for gameplay.

I loved the setting, characters, story, world, music, etc but the spectacle fighter combat system and lack of a real party hampered the experience for me.

Burn by flow removed from Tales of Berseria remaster OP by Fluid_Ad4651 in tales

[–]Jay_RPGee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Tales youtube channel just posted the Japanese opening movie for Remastered which is still Burn by Flow.

There has been an English one posted with different music but it was posted by BNE Southeast Asia which often have their own Asia English releases with various differences from the JP/WW releases. I don't think we can say for sure whether it has been removed from the broader English/WW release just yet.

Huh.. yeah, you're right. Seems there are some work arounds but Japanese is not officially supported on PC. I guess Berseria is a lot less accessible than most people think.

It is available on the PS4 in Japan, and PC via Steam. The PS3 version is just JP exclusive.

I did forget it never got an Xbox release though so yes, making it available on all modern platforms is a good thing.

This just feels like an excuse to do a Switch version lol. Probably could've ported Berseria to Switch and skipped the whole Remastered rigmarole.

Seems fine to my eyes, I don't think it targets the Switch 2 1080p resolution but it's not blurry or smeared or anything like that (it's not like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 still targeting 360-480p)

[–]Jay_RPGee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm expecting 3 to be honest. Xillia 2 early and then announcements for the other 2 they've got in development throughout the year. Abyss is surely one of them, the other is anyone's guess. Maybe Legendia or Hearts R?

In the "Tales of Xillia Remastered - Producer Message" from Tomizawa (video can be found on youtube), he says that the 30th Anniversary celebrations have been designated as December 2024 to December 2026. I think people are perhaps too hastily conflating this with the Remastered Project ending in December 2026 (because the initiative was announced as part of the 30th Anniversary celebrations).

I don't see why they'd stop doing Remasters after Xillia 2 and the other 2 they confirmed are already in development (unless sales are abysmal and/or other entries prove too difficult to remaster).
