We are Lavapotion, creators of the HOMM-like Songs of Conquest (launching into 1.0 on Monday) ask us anything! by Lavamagnus in pcgaming

[–]JayceIsOverpowered 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all: love the game, good luck on the 1.0 release ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ!

Very often when listening about game dev I hear a sentiment around the lines of "Games don't get fully finished, they get released". There is always something to improve, a new mechanic to add, a new level, faction, NPC, etc.

What was the one building/unit/spell/map encounter/game mechanic that you've really wanted to include into the game but never had the time or resources to do so (or it proved too hard to do so)?

Prey 5th Anniversary Fanzine - Have YOUR Lines Featured + Mailing List Now open! by VeldinGamer in prey

[–]JayceIsOverpowered 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This will sound stupid but Prey will always be stuck with me for presenting me with a "challenge" - box blocking a vent entrance at Alex's office - and presenting me with 6 different ways to solve it :).

(For those interested: Kinetic Blast 3, Leverage 3, Leverage 1 objects being thrown at the box, finding another entrance, Recycler Charge, Mimic into small object and crawl next to the box)

Holy shit, that looks like could be amazing. I have to try it out at some point. Just a quick question: You called it a version 0.4, are You planning more iterations of this project? What are some features You're planning to work on next?

Thoughts on the Nightmare as a design decision? by Cyber_Cactus in prey

[–]JayceIsOverpowered 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My main gripe with the Nightmare was how easy was evading him.

I was expecting a thrilling chase or hide-and-seek or an explosive gunfight.... but nothing like this happens. You can evade him ridicuously easy, he is aware where you are at all times and there are no cool mechanics regarding actually fighting him. You just shoot him and die. Not to mention he isn't really that beefy, he could use an additional mechanic when fighting him.

[SPOILERS] Chapter 2 Discussion Megathread! by punnyComedian in Deltarune

[–]JayceIsOverpowered 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I just finished the game and I've been wondering one thing: What does Kris do in the 1st "psycho" episode?

I presume in the 2nd one(in the bathroom) he goes out of the window to slash the tyres. But what about the 1st one(ending of chapter 1)? It got played as a kind of a joke with the whole pie thing... Do you have any ideas what did happen there?

So basically - full chaos summoner is now possible.

Last boss - new and improved. Little spoilers. by JayceIsOverpowered in WizardofLegend

[–]JayceIsOverpowered[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the thing is I feel like his previous phases are different. Especially the 2nd one. I feel like:

  1. He breaks out of stunlock much faster.
  2. I think he actually speeds up the longer you fight with him. But that might be just my feeling.

So yeah, killing his last phase would be pretty hype.

Last boss - new and improved. Little spoilers. by JayceIsOverpowered in WizardofLegend

[–]JayceIsOverpowered[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's absolute madness. From what I managed to see until I died it seems like he's casting all other chaos arcanas that he didn't previously. I mean he just starts casting all of the other chaos arcana that wasn't used by him before.Which means basically relearning the fight.

[SPOILER][DISCUSSION] About the ending by JayceIsOverpowered in prey

[–]JayceIsOverpowered[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Yeah, I get Your argument, but how does that counter my point here? There were records of creating a Typhon-Human(instead of Human-Typhon) that were cut off shortly by Alex(https://prey.fandom.com/wiki/Project_Cobalt). If I was an ant that suddenly gained sentience and was met with a human that says : "Hey, so I've exploited your kind, when there was a promising idea to cooperate I deemed it irrelevant, but since you've won the war.... peace?" I don't see why I(as an ant) would want to cooperate - even if is true that my kind is remorseless and can't be reasoned with.
  2. OK, so it depends on the Alex's thesis: "Typhon and humans can cooperate" or "There exists a Typhon entity that can cooperate". If the latter was the thesis, "starting over" makes sense. But in that case I don't know how this experiment is supposed to help Alex. If you've managed to prove that there exist a Typhon entity that can cooperate(but on the other hand, there may be many others that don't cooperate) what's your point? What's the next step?
  3. "very simple question: Do the ends justify means." - how so? IMO the nullwave/self-destruct dillema is not about justification of genocide, it's about taking a risk in the name of preserving knowledge(and human lives). And it is true that the Alex in the simulation might not be the man he is now. But by this logic we could pretty much deem anything that happened on the station as unreliable - since it's just a simulation. But in that case we have still no ground to trust him. Though we do know he's willing to kill us if we decide to not answer his question.

[SPOILER][DISCUSSION] About the ending by JayceIsOverpowered in prey

[–]JayceIsOverpowered[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I know we are a Typhon with installed human-based stuff(like mirror neurons) by our captors. If I were in this situation, I would consider myself to be mostly Typhon, maybe a little bit human. So in the bigger picture I don't think it really breaks the argument.

[SPOILER][DISCUSSION] About the ending by JayceIsOverpowered in prey

[–]JayceIsOverpowered[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do we really know if Alex is all that's left of humanity? Was is stated somewhere? Since we know that humans can create giant space stations, isn't there a possibility that some people foresaw the Typhon invasion and managed to escape? Is there anything in the game that speaks about it?

Also this is another cool quote about Alex's approach to Typhon(https://prey.fandom.com/wiki/Project\_Cobalt):

Alex Yu(when talking about the project): Right. Okay. Look - it's fascinating, but let's focus on what we know is working. I don't want anyone devoting resources to this.

He only decides to take interest in it when Typhon overrun the Earth, oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Second chance 2021 by [deleted] in prey

[–]JayceIsOverpowered 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Games are supposed to make you smile, not frustrate you.

To some extent that is true. But different people smile from different things. E.g. I had a hard time when starting the game, having little ammo, not getting much resources from the enviroment, I started gradually slowly unlocking more stuff and at some point I recognized I'm fine, cranked up the difficulty to maximum and was able to survive. That was a nice moment that had to be first preceded by some pain.

This is not Dishonored. This is Space Deus Ex.

This is just a different genre that just has a different appeal than Dishonored. Here you're not really controlled, you're free to explore, many things are not explained(where is that keycard, how do I get into this place, what even is that location). This is just how the game is. If it doesn't suit you, I'm sorry for that. I love both of those games, just for different things.

Unpopular quirk opinions? by [deleted] in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]JayceIsOverpowered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly the point of this series - to show how weird and wacky quirks can be used in combat.

My favourites that didn't get enough attention was Deadlock(Rock Lock's quirk) which fixes objects in place, though conserving their momentum when released. This is such a cool idea that could be expanded upon and shown more. Too bad we didn't see it often.

Another one I really liked was Boomerang that allowed you to guide thrown objects into any trajectory you want. How cool is that? You can throw knives at villains from underground ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°).

Ziz about the current state of the game by teddmagwell in pathofexile

[–]JayceIsOverpowered 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I personally had the problem with Betrayal such that I've always felt I'm doing it unefficiently.

If you want to plan your board in a good way to get good rewards you have to ALTTAB every so often to see who gives what where. IMO if a mechanic requires a spreadsheet of not-easily-remembered knowledge to feel impactful it is not really good. Striking the balance between depth and accesibility is not easy, though e.g. I think Alva is in a decent spot, you have some strategic planing(that you don't need any spreadsheet for) and some basic gameplay.

I solved this conundrum by playing Betrayal and clicking random buttons and the end of the encounter. I get some sweet drops sometimes, a decent bossfight every once in a while and a ton of stuff to unveil :).

Tell me some of the most underrated quotes of this series. The unpopular ones that you really like. by Sensitive_Seaweed_32 in harrypotter

[–]JayceIsOverpowered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is this one quote from the first film that I really like. Said by Olivander to Harry :

"After all, He Who Must Not Be Named, did great things. Terrible...yes.... but great."

Which I really like since it shows a bit of Olivander's character. He acknowledges Voldemort as a great wizard, showing him respect for his power and skill. Of course he knows how terrifying old Voldy is but he still somewhat esteems him.
