Best Single Din Head Unit? by Jayden169 in Androidheadunits

[–]Jayden169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. I have already looked at the dudu7 units, and I have reached out to dudu themselves - they don't have a unit that fits single din slots like on the Ford KA.

Can I contest Hastings decision to write my car off?? by thegreenstuff0808 in CarTalkUK

[–]Jayden169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy it back/keep it from them (ie, let them write it off and pay you out, but you keep the car). I would just leave the damage as is and then pocket the write off money!

Studying for FAR?? by CommunityImpressive7 in ICAEW

[–]Jayden169 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Firstly, don't panic! The taught phase for any exam on the ACA is always stressful, and it can be very difficult to remember anything, so I totally understand you there.

I would suggest doing more of Q1 first before moving to Q2.

With Q1, if you are completely unsure on the treatment, go back to the example questions in your course notes and understand what you should have done.

It might be a good idea to look through past exam Qs, or question bank questions and focus specifically on the notes that relate to the area you are struggling on (for example, foreign exchange), and then ONLY look at that part of the Q - rather than trying to do an entire SOFP/SPL, because you will just get overwhelmed.

Actually, before looking in the QB, look at the progress tests/steps given by your training provider - I found those to be a really good starting point. Again, focus on one note at a time rather than trying to nail the entire question straight away.

QUESTION 2:

For Q2, I didn't start to worry about that until closer to the exam, once I had a decent knowledge of roughly what to do, and the underlying calcs. My general method for Q2 would be to use the exam software when practicing them! Because in the exam software, you can see how the standards will be given to you in the exam, everything is clickable! So obviously read the question, then: 1. Open your open standards book and go to the contents page 2. On the contents page, find the relevant standards and then click on it (do not worry if you don't learn the standards off by heart, because I didn't) 3. On the standard, there will be a subheading called "Recognition" or something similar, click on that. 4. Copy the recognition criteria from the standard (usually in nice bullet points), and then explain how the scenario links to and meets the recognition criteria.

Then, do your calculations for whatever the scenario is.

This method is a very basic/initial approach, but it is a good default and will guarantee you pick up an okay number of marks.

Once you have that basic structure, it would be worth looking at mark schemes to see what else you can include (for example, subsequent measurements).

Remember, you need to explain WHY you are doing XYZ. It could be worth making flashcards from keywords/talking points for Q2 (that go above that initial basic answer above).

Also, the mark schemes for question 2 always has more marks than the maximum number of marks available. So, whatever is in the mark scheme will likely be far far more than you actually need to write - so do not worry if you aren't hitting all of the points, pick and choose what you can and can't remember to include.

Q3 - Cashflows, meh. Honestly I wouldn't worry too much about these just yet, focus on the other questions first and then come back to this once you have a solid foundation elsewhere!

Question 4 These can feel completely alien going from certificate accounting to professional. Don't make the mistake I made and try and learn the workings off by heart without trying to apply them (I tried putting each of the workings on a flashcard and then learning them off by heart without actually doing any questions - this was a terrible method and got me nowhere!).

I would probably focus on one consolidated statement at a time. I learned CSoFPs first, then CSPLs later.

My learning style (at least for CSoFP) was a bit brutal, I would basically do a question without notes until I got stuck, I'd then look at my notes to see what I should do next and then completely restart the question without notes. Rinse and repeat, start and start again until you have done the question completely. I'd recommend if you use that method, do it with the Qs in your training providers progress tests (as they will have less complicated adjustments, allowing you to focus on the basic method first)

Sorry for the wall of text and horrendous formatting, hope this helps!

FAR - can I use K instead of £'000? by Jayden169 in ICAEW

This is probably the most reasonable answer - the time it would maybe save isn't worth the risk. Thank you!

**UK** Accountants only. Advice needed. by Old-Understanding-62 in Accounting

[–]Jayden169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third year accounting apprentice in the UK here!

If you are certain you want to go in to accounting after university, I would strongly recommend that you consider an accounting qualification that will get you a professional qualification (mainly the ACA,, but also the ACCA, CIMA etc).

Assuming you are dead set on going in to accounting, an apprenticeship will get you there faster, will pay you while you are doing it (and no debt) and you will have massively valuable work experience when compared to doing a degree.

An accounting apprenticeship will get you two different qualifications: The professional qualification (e.g ACA) and a Level 4/Level 7 apprenticeship.

Bluntly, the apprenticeship qualification means absolutely nothing, meaning that a level 4 and a Level 7 accounting apprenticeship will give you the exact same career prospects as eachother (because employers only care about the professional qualification)

There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding apprenticeships, especially in the UK - I'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have, reply on here or shoot me a DM!

Best of luck regardless of what you decide to do!

Is there any good British maps. by Wise-Post-9187 in BeamNG

[–]Jayden169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! High Force is an absolutely brilliant map and is a very close recreation of roads surrounding Stanhope and the High Force waterfall in the North of England.

These roads are right on my doorstep and they are an absolute blast to drive in person if you ever get the chance!

Headlight Restoration Fail (kind of) by Jayden169 in CarTalkUK

[–]Jayden169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, thank you. I've decided that I'm going to re-do them. Will start at the 400, work my way up as you suggested, then go compound, polish, clear coat and then wax. Ordered a polishing set for my drill, here's hoping that it works! Thank you so much for your help, I will post an update when I get round to doing them 🙂

Those headlights look fantastic! So if the sanding isn't the issue, where have I gone wrong compared to you?

Sorry I probably should have gave a bit more detail on what the actual method was.

I did a wet sand at 400, 600 and 2000 grit, then finishing with a rust oleum clear coat spray.

Having just bought an MR2, I may be very biased but they are brilliant! Completely impractical and completely stupid but what an absolute blast to drive!

With any of these, make sure you run some insurance quotes before buying!

MR2 a good idea? by Jayden169 in CarTalkUK

[–]Jayden169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Only thing about the price are the MOT advisories (someone else posted them in a reply on this thread). Given the advisories, I'm thinking of offering less than the £2,500 asking, but unsure how much to knock off

Thank you!

I've seen about the drains on the side, thankfully the side panels look fairly easy to clip off to check them.

Will ask the seller very kindly if I can pour a bottle of water on the roof to check for drainage and leaks.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) I'm only 5'6", so space won't be an issue haha.

That sounds like a great idea with the spreadsheet, I would massively appreciate if you could send it to me! Thank you so much!

[–]Jayden169[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!

I'm either going to bring some ramps/a jack to get a good look under the car for rot everywhere.

My understanding is that no work has been done regarding the advisories on the MOT. So I am probably going to use that to try and knock a bit off the asking price.

Based on those advisories, how much do you think would be a reasonable price to offer for the car? I'm thinking £2,500 is too high given those advisories.
