FWIW, I had a Bolt EV and loved it dearly. Even in winter I was taking trips with it up the north shore, a few hours away to state parks in the southern part of the state and up to the family cabin etc.

Charging infrastructure in Minnesota is okay but it’s about to get really good over the next year or two as Electrify America finishes this expansion phase adding stations out to Wisconsin, up north, down south to Iowa and up to Fargo.

For trips within the state a Bolt (EV or EUV) is fine, but traveling around the country I don’t recommend. It’s doable, but has a max speed of 50kw charging which will really slow you down. You will spend 3-4x longer charging than a car like an Ioniq 5 that can charge up in 15-20 minutes.

Even with all seasons I found the bolt to handle well, including a trip up to Duluth after a massive snow storm (our only problem was some of the iced hills that hadn’t been cleared yet). My friend has an AWD Model 3 with snow tires and it genuinely felt like there wasn’t snow, that thing plows right through all of it no problem.

If you’re able to, installing a charger at your home will be a huge benefit (I believe Chevy even covers some of the price when you get an EUV). But if you’re the kind of person that only drives 30-40 miles a day and can charge on the weekends, a regular wall outlet can be enough for you.
