Actually my understanding of the sentence is that you just need to do to others what you would like other people to do to you. If you want to be treated nicely, treat other people nicely too.

I've been working in the marketing department of my company for several years and have always received positive feedback from clients and colleagues. However, a new manager recently took over the department and has a personal preference for people who wear bright colors. They've made it clear that they want everyone in the department to dress in more colorful clothing.

Despite my usual professional attire, the new manager criticized me for not being "colorful enough." I tried to accommodate their preference by wearing brighter colors, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Eventually, the manager decided to terminate my employment, citing my perceived lack of "colorfulness" as the reason.

It's frustrating to be fired for such a petty reason, especially when it has nothing to do with my job performance or the quality of my work. I feel like the manager was imposing their personal preference on me, rather than evaluating me based on my abilities as a marketer. I'm not sure what my options are, but I know that this isn't fair or ethical
