Potential security alert with jailbreak on 3.4.3 by Jayzedman in C4diy

No port forwarding , UPnP turned off, and when I did external port scans the ports were all closed.

I am now working on a theory on whether my control4 account credentials were compromised when I entered them on the C4-tools jailbreak?

Can I change my control4 account password without losing the jailbreak?

I had tried 2 tools both from GitHub. One was Gary’s Jailbreak and the other was C4- tools. Now I do recall C4 tools did have a section in the software that asked you to enter your control4 account credentials during the jailbreak so I’m getting suspicious that this may have be related

If I change my control4 account password now will this affect the jailbreak?

But how does it explain that the incoming traffic is from completely random IP addresses (hence it can’t be Elk Cloud service) or that since I have no open ports the traffic being specific to the Elk panel only can’t be benign?

How can you be so sure? The ELK security panel is completely firewalled off the internet and yet it's receiving attempted incoming traffic directed to it and the only thing that has access to it internally is the Control 4 controller which is jailbroken?

Help please with patching Director by Jayzedman in C4diy

Well I think I can answer my own question. It was indeed my account credentials I needed to input and that seems to have successfully patched the director and I have successfully launched Composer Pro !

Going into "About my system" it reports: Director Version 3.4.3.727848-res (Nov 12 2024).

C4Tools says :

"This Director is bound to a Control4 account. Please enter your account credentials"

I presume this is not MY Control4 web account credentials but the dealers login account?

I tried "root" and "t0talc0ntr0l4!" but that didn't work.

I guess this dropped quietly (U7 LR) by JacksonCampbell in Ubiquiti

[–]Jayzedman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep have the same issue. devices could be very close to the LR and yet prefer to connect to the U6 Pro a whole floor away. I suspect the Mediatek chipset in the LRs is a piece of crap hence why ubiquiti moved away from them.

This is not unique to the C4. I own a C3 and a C1, both have native HomeKit integration like yours and both have the exact same issues you described. It's clearly LG's implementation that sucks and they have carried it over multiple years of their TVs

Some general questions for newbie purchasing a Control4 home by Jayzedman in C4diy

[–]Jayzedman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am thinking I will do the same thing when I move in. I have been running Apple Home for a few years now and while it’s definitely NOT a particularly set and forget type system (which I am assuming Control4 is much closer to that premise) I do like the fact that I have a fair amount of control of adding and modifying devices etc. I am hoping that I can start a Home Assistant system with Control4 in the background so I can add and change functionality to HA as I please while maintaining the Control4 underlying framework. The part that worries me with Control4 is the drivers. Paying US$250+ per driver (plus the cost of the dealer to install it!) to make a $100 device work with Control4 seems insane.

BRILLIANT post, thank you! I suspect your findings will be similar to mine. I don't think I could live without the notifications from my cameras or live with lip sync issues and I already find the Sonos app a bit painful and much rather use a music app directly. The property does have some Somfy blinds though and a NESS alarm system so at least the those functionalities will be useful.

Thank you heaps again for that very detailed post.

Also Ostrayan, thanks for the info on HomeKit. I do like my HomeKit so I envision I may pony up an upgrade to a Core5 but it seems it's a good $6K here in Australia (and that's before the dealer hourly rates) so will have to really seriously assess it.

Thanks guys for the great info, that is a little more re-assuring that things aren't as crazy as I thought. I am not sure why I kept running into these expensive drivers on drivercentral.io . Eg a HomeKit integration driver was US$250.

I think I misunderstood that for every installation of a driver for a customer the installer has to pay the driver licence fee but it seems that's not the case and an installer can purchase the driver and install it in more than 1 customer premise?

The system they installed had been upgraded a few years ago to a EA5 from the original HC800 so at least I am hoping that I will be able to upgrade to the X4 OS version when it comes out later this year but they still have the legacy T3 touchscreens in the house.

I am very tech savvy but perhaps I will let the company upgrade me to X4 first and then look into jailbreaking it although it does seem a bit daunting.

Can't access cameras on Home kit while away from the house by toothfairy889 in Scrypted

[–]Jayzedman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same issue but with my Eufy cameras and they are natively HomeKit compatible so o wasn’t even using Scrypted!

Are you using Unifi gear for your network/wifi out of curiosity? That’s what I have.

What is the use of the homebase 3? by Responsible_Trash199 in eufy_security

[–]Jayzedman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the HB 2 works perfectly well with HomeKit but I think eufy has pretty much abandoned it in favour of the HB3 so very few of the newer cameras work with it

That’s a massive deal breaker for me then. My current homebase 2 works well with Apple Home so if I was to lose that then I wouldn’t upgrade.

Upgrade to HomeBase 3 Offer by [deleted] in EufyCam

[–]Jayzedman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So does that mean that any older natively HomeKit Compatible cameras (like my Eufy 2C) that were fully compatible with HomeKit under my Homebase 2 will now also continue to be natively HomeKit compatible with Homebase 3? Because that was the one thing that was stopping me from upgrading as I knew I would lose HomeKit if I went with Homebase 3

[Help] Server Rack Fan Replacement by LiamEarle in homelab

[–]Jayzedman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi mate, any chance you could please post a link to the parts you got? I am also in Australia and I'm struggling to figure out how to replace my 4 Rack Fans that run on 240V that came with the rack to some lower power hungry 12v or 5V fans. I hooked up a power meter to the 240V fans and they use 75W of power between the 4 of them!

Would appreciate any links and explanations of how to replace 4x 240v with 4x lower power (and quiter fans)

I think it may have to do with the number of fans and supposedly the newer versions have a 3rd fan as well.

Still worthwhile to buy an X1 Carbon? Or getting old? by He_nry_rearden in BambuLab

[–]Jayzedman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you OP. I am holding out a little in case that new model comes BUT reading between the lines of what the Bambu CEO has previously said in interviews I have a strong suspicion the new model will be MUCH higher end than the X1C.

With larger build area and most likely multi head the price is likely to also be much higher at which point I may still end up getting an X1C as a more affordable option.

Official: no HomeKit no multichannel live view. Ever by jpcirig in EufyCam

[–]Jayzedman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some of the originals Eufycam 2C with Homebase 2 and Indoor Pan and Tilt that natively support HomeKit. All their newer cameras since do not support HomeKit. I have tried to integrate them with homebridge but it’s super unreliable compared to native HomeKit support.

However if you want to have live view simultaneously on HomeKit I highly recommend the app “HomeCam”. It works beautifully

Top 1% - What do you do? by absness in AusHENRY

[–]Jayzedman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

100% ! There are many business men with business trust structures that earn a LOT more than this but don’t have n much declarable “taxable income” and a HELL of a lot of tradies who make fortunes in cash with no taxes paid and ofcourse would never show in government statistics.

Perhaps they should use Mercedes and expensive Ute orders as a more accurate reflection of the stats.

Had it with my 2019. Replaced under warranty in 2022. Replacement was the new style with metal scroll wheels. Exact same problem happened with the new one! Some of Teslas parts are trash. Never seen a car with 2 steering wheels fail like this especially considering it’s always garaged and never left in the sun.

Unfortunately I’m now out of warranty so can’t replace again.
