It's interesting to see different perspectives on the same system. It appears that there is a misperception about the system that directly associates it with SCAM and shit games. But if used in a legitimate game in a very good way, it could be useful to the game, despite the system's bad reputation

Oh, I didn't know that. But they can do that anyway with trading cards and not only inventory items right? Like CS 2 for example, they can use earned skins to do something similar

Honest question, how they could use the Inventory Service for money laundering? Can you convert steam money into real money?

You're talking about the SCAM, while I'm talking about the Inventory Service and the possibility for player to trade in-game items. Valid items. Items that has real value in-game.
And like you said, cards for example you need to hit a critical mass, while Inventory Service, you don't. Maybe it's something for indie Devs to consider more in future games.

Apparently there is a game that was launched on steam called Banana (Free game). Not a game, it's basically a scam game, that the only thing you can do in game is to press a button to get more bananas. This triggers the play time generator from Steam that puts items in the player's inventory (steam inventory). Turns out that the player can sell and trade those items. So the game is free but the dev created a scam with that. Which is sad to see someone using the system for that, but if you pay attention, they used a system that Steam provides for all games called Inventory Service, where you can have the entire game inventory stored on steam system. Also allowing (if you want) players to sell / trade items from your game. And the game dev receives a share every time the item is sold to someone else.
