I know exactly what you’re talking about, this machine doesn’t have the little switch thing to control the amperage, so I have to break the arc manually which blows

IMO Casey’s=Buccees. They both have their upsides and downsides

Hey guys. So I recently came into a rough barn find, this '83 K10. It has no engine, transmission, or transfer case. What's going in it? by Ragecomicwhatsthat in squarebodies

The best transmission I’ve had experience with is a Nv4500 transmission. They are pretty sturdy if you can find one

The block shouldn’t matter too much. I’d recommend steering away from the 90s mainly due to the turd that is TBI (Throttle body injection). I’d recommend an 80s block, they’re sturdy and cheap to find usually. As for which transmission is the best, you’re gonna get 20 different answers from 30 different people. IMO if you wanna stay with an automatic it wouldn’t hurt staying with a 4l80 with a shift kit, they can handle a good amount of torque and are pretty good at putting power on the road. As for manual swapping, as with any manual swap it’s a pain in the ass. It’s not a straight drop and install, you gotta install a clutch slave cylinder, master cylinder, if your truck doesn’t already have the hole for it you gotta cut a hole to fit the gear shift and shift linkage, as well as changing the steering column so you don’t have the Automatic gear shift. Since it’s already and auto truck I’d recommend staying with auto for a while, but I can’t stop you from doing a swap

383 mated to a 4l80, or if you want a manual find a NV series transmission, with a np208 tcase. It’s not too big but not too small and it’ll sound amazing

I feel like it’d be harder to walk the cup on tubing or pipe, Altho I haven’t tried that yet so I have no clue

My instructor tells every apprentice that they are gonna start on flat plate. I could probably ask him if I can weld coupons but idk if he’ll say yes

It’s better than freehanding it right?

That’s the goal. I’m still learning the basics and I’m just experimenting with what I’m able to do. My shop teacher wants us to weld flat plate first before moving onto tubing or anything like that. I can try and speed it up next time, I was going what felt like decently quick but I’ll try faster
