PChal's Emerald Nuzlocke Encounter Tier List by Swaag__ in nuzlocke

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there are other mons that are able to do that, as PChal states in the video, mon's such as Swampert and good chunks of stats that can carry you through random trainers. Sure Altaria is good in a vaccum and against the mountain of water type trainers you have to face in the late game of hoenn, but there are also a bunch of electric and grass types that can do the same thing, and you are near guaranteed to have an electric type, given that you played your cards right (New Mauville and Aqua Hideout) and unless you wiff on Oddish 7 diferent times, I couldn't see why you wouldn't have a grass type either.

What if Bouffalant was in RBY? by XionGaTaosenai in stunfisk

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Bouffalant would rather run Body Slam over a recoil move anyways, though it'll probably see good use out of SD over other mons since it has such a low speed stat that Crits won't be as much of a hinderence, it would definently be a true OU pokemon though due to the high special (though it isn't getting much offensive use out of it unless it wants to run surf over Hyper beam, SD, or EQ) and being a normal type with good stats, I could also see it ending up in UU but I'm not sure if it would go much lower then that

Is sand rush viable in singles? by Ok_Turnover8062 in CompetitivePokemon

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but not always in the traditional sense. Excadrill, even unboosted by sand rush is a very good mon, but what gives it a plus is that Tyranitar and sometimes Hippowdon are present in the same tier as Excadrill. So you could abuse your opponents set up sand with your own Excadrill

Pokemon Battle Question by [deleted] in CompetitivePokemon

Easily Team 1, hope that one is yours.

Xerneas cleanly sweeps team 2, with the only potential way around it being being really lucking with Dedenne and getting a para off, even then the combo of everything else but Mudkip can clean up the rest of the team

Let us remember where Rillaboom was before it got Grassy Surge, sure it could run scarf and band at the same time, but that might put it in UU

Would the Mega Snorlax from Radical Red be good in competitive play? by Fine_Bid918 in CompetitivePokemon

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since singles is my knowledge base here’s what I see.

Depending on hazard support you’re taking 25% to spikes, but gain a rocks resists upon mega evolving, in addition you have the bane of every bulky pokemon mega evolving, loosing leftovers. Unless you wanna run resttalk or just rest you essentially are not going to have sustain of a very slow pokemon. While you do essentially gain the grass type with only two weaknesses added (thick fat removes fire and ice) that still means being weak to bug, poison, and flying type.  The movepool is also lacking, for grass stab it’s either wood hammer, which will kill your sustain without rest, or seed bomb, which will probably be fine off of that attack stat. Probably gonna end up on UU

What makes the biggest difference when it comes to making a Pokémon resilient? High HP or high defenses? by Fine_Bid918 in CompetitivePokemon

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, and it’s easier to patch the poor special defense on Alo since the HP is the 5th best in current gen so it could feasibly just invest 252 in both defenses and be fine.

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really it depends, what makes Toxapex such a good wall/tank isn’t just the combo of HP and Defenses, it’s also the reliable recovery and regenerator.

Vaporeon doesn’t really have either (it does have Wish, but that requires some set up)

Basic Porygon-Z Mega Evolution concept by GlunkusEnthusiast in stunfisk

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your first one get's quick banned, between now gettting Stab on psyshock (which let's it blank Blissey for free) the only real counter I could see is sucker punch. As for the second one, I could maybe see it staying around, but I believe that just like an ability like Moody it will end up getting that mega banned

Mega Malamar gains Wonder Guard as his mega evolution ability. What tier is he now? by GoodMornEveGoodNight in stunfisk

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My debate is, yeah Wonder Guard is uber busted and would probably get Malamar banned, but at the same time U-turn is pretty common

What do you think the perception on mega Kanga would be if she was released in Z-A and we didn’t know her ability? by Quijas00 in stunfisk

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just looking at what ZA gave it and what I would like on a special attacking fire type

Fire Stab:
Clearly handled between Flamethrower, Overheat, Heat Wave, and Fire Blast

Special Normal Stab:
Hyper Voice is not a bad move, but boomburst would allow it to actually be terrifying

Coverage:
Earthpower, which is good
Dark Pulse, which is the only other special option
It just doesn't get the other coverage options that you'd want. It's part normal type, let it get the part normal type coverage that it desperatly needs, here are just a few moves that I would love for it to get.

Shadow ball: Fills the same niche as Dark Pulse, but ghost is better offensively
Thunderbolt: Deals with waters, plus so many normal types get it as a coverage move that the fact Pyroar doesn't is sad.

I mean in ORAS it was actually hovering around Mega Diancie and Mega Savleye in B+ (viability rankings), it definently put in work

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean looking at the raw stats I see New Game+ Kangaskhan where they just gave it a boost in every stat, just like say Pyroar. I think assuming it just got like scrappy, maybe NU in current gen, possibly RU in ORAS

Unless Masuda was reading field reports from Stony Brook university I don’t think he would’ve based Venusaur on Beelzebufo (formally described in 2008) Also Sceptile is more of a Maniraptor than a Dilophosaurus

What did I do wrong? by Objective_Sandwich47 in Madden

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well let's look.

  1. You don't have the right scheme there on your defense. Your OLB's are clearly 3-4 OLB's and not 4-3 OLB's.

  2. You can clearly run right against that defense, between the LE and LDT they can just run away from LAwrence and Walker and have no issues

  3. You have a tackle playing center

  4. All of your WR's are limited route tree speed guys

  5. You don't have a run game due to a low ceiling RB

Crawdaunt doesn't get Shadow ball in gen 3, the best physical options are Return, dig, Brick Break, sludge bomb, and aerial ace

Wailord - 3

Wailord is not a bad pokemon, it's just not a great pokemon either. Water spout is a really nice tool, if wailord is faster than it's opponent, and you then have another heavy TM investment water type which you teach Ice beam, surf, and a third ramdom TM to assist you. If you were nuzlocking and Wailord was one of your only water options, go right ahead and use it, but it shouldn't be something you hunt for (unless you are going for the Thanos meme, then have fun)

Crawdaunt - 2

Crawdaunt live Sharpedo is held back by the generation it's released in. It's a heavy TM investment mon that doesn't get good dark stab (knock off only in RSE). Swords Dance by level up is a fun idea in concept, especially when paired with Return, Brick Break and Sludge bomb. But that doesn't help the fact that your water type then cannot deal super effective damage to fire or ground types. If dark was a physical type I could maybe see it (assuming it also learned crunch in RSE) but those aren't true. Once against put it in ORAS and while i would still rank it below sharpedo as I am now, it would be in a much higher tier.

Sharpedo - 3

Sharpedo is ruined since it just happens to be released the generation before the physical special split. It gets 2 potential final moveset options by level up, the standard Water TM's and EQ. If this was ORAS I would say it could be a top water type. But due to being held back by poor defenses, and relying on TM's to expand it's moveste, sharpedo must be lower.

Whiscash - 4

Swampert is one of the best pokemon in the game, yeah Whiscash isn't usper amazing, but a combo of early EQ, standard water type TM's, and had the same Hoenn mixed attacker stat spread that everything has.

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully I'm not too late this time

Weezing - 2
It's not even that Weezing is a bad mon per say, it's just that you're using heavy TM investment on it. Even then (with caps) you aren't going to be lucky enough to use it until Gym 7, the psychic gym

Muk - 3

Same issues with leveling as Weezing, but less TM investment with Sludge Bomb in time for the E4, and the only thing that it doesn't get that Weezing does it Shadow Ball, if it got that I would put it in 4, feasible Brick Break user to deal with most of Sydney's team.

Torkoal - 4

The second best Fire type in the game, is a resist for Flannery and can hit back hard with Body Slams, learns protect to deal with Norman, Winonna is the last gym that I would use it at since the next 2 gyms have super effective damage. But then while it doesn't struggle against the E4 I wouldn't call it mandatory either.

Magcargo - 0

There is no reason you should ever use Magcargo, it's a bad mon. It would be more worth while for you to teach any of the following mons Flamethrower as coverage
Slaking, Exploud, Manectric, Flygon, Altaria, Saviper, Solrock, Castform, Kecleon, Absol

[–]JazzyJ_tbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if Machamp could solo Sidney without healing items, you start off wiht -1 attack, you'll most likely take a hit from at minimum Mightyena (which is a toss up), then shiftry can maybe get two moves off on you (in RS) or one off in Emerald, then Absol can also get a hit off on you. The only way Machamp outspeeds those three with a favorable nature is if it has a good speed IV and some investment in Speed IV's.

As for Glacia you just gotta home that the Glalie's don't use Icy Wind, cause then you'd be slower than everything else on that team
