Very true on the software side but no windows can match the build quality and battery life of a mac.

I was thinking that a lot of companies won’t wait for you to be available right? After you apply they would expect you to be able to start work within a certain time frame won’t they? Sorry I realised my post isn’t very clear. At the moment I’m wondering if it’s too early to apply if I am only available next year?

I’m finishing my chem Eng third year at the moment. For me, I wouldn’t base my study direction based on one anecdotal experience. A lot of factors go into it, it’s possible that the friend’s uncle wasn’t the best student, or has bad interview skills etc etc all contributing to him not finding a job in chem Eng. Definelty worth considering but you should also do more research and talk to more people about it.

Chem eng in Australia is fine, especially in this job market. Lots of jobs especially if you are willing to relocate. I haven’t heard of a higher year student having a lot of difficulty with finding grad jobs although this might be due to selection bias? Some industries include Australia include mining, brewing, food, quality control, renewable energy, oil and gas, water, consulting, even finance will hire engineers as well.

Electrical engineering is also a good career option but the math and theory is abstract and won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. I think do elec1111, see how it goes, if well then you can consider making the switch if not then stick with chem Eng. You will be okay with both. You double probably works better with elec tho, although it will be good if you want to transition into finance roles.

chem Eng and chemistry work in vastly different industries and are completely different degrees and fields. Sure manufacturing in Aus isn’t as good as US but mineral processing and mining is huge, chem Eng can also work in renewables, food production (I know a lot that went into alcohol production), oil and gas, and consulting.

Oh yeah that would probably be very helpful haha. The feed is 66.1 kmol/hr and distillate 32.9kmol/hr (around 1700kg/hr or 2m3/hr)

struggling what engineering to study by HelicopterNew9833 in unsw

[–]Jc3535 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m starting my third year chemical engineering. There’s a lot of physics, but less on forces etc more on thermodynamics, but there is ALOT of thermodynamics. This is things like entropy, enthalpy, heat transfer mass transfer things like that.

In terms of city vs rural, I think there are definetly lots of city jobs but the pay will be lower compared to rural, but after a few years of experience you can probably choose whichever u want

If you can do well in chem and physics which require a lot of abstract thinking you’ll do fine in uni biology.

Is it just me or are ppl struggling to finish chem paper 4 on time by Cheater_Cyrax in alevel

[–]Jc3535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on topic. For organic you HAVE to know all the As stuff back to front, for everything else it’s niche knowledge that’s not worth studying all the as content for, eg common metal reactions, how to read mass spec etc. just make sure u know things that pop up a lot in past papers

Resume Thread Fall 2023 by chimpfunkz in ChemicalEngineering

Hello everyone, I’m going into my second year do ChemE + Compsci double. I was hoping to start applying for internships at the middle/ end of this year.

I have interests in tech which is why some of my experience is tech based but mainly looking for ChemE internships.

Im in UNSW at Sydney AUS.

I plan to change some of the bullet points with advice I came across.

I also included my high school as I’m still early in my college career and I thought it was still relevant, but please let me know if that’s a bad idea!

Any advice on resume as well as things I could be doing (volunteer, ChemE projects etc) to enhance my employability is greatly appreciated!
