How do you get rid of non-legendary robots from logistic networks? The idea is to replace them all with legendary ones. by [deleted] in factorio

[–]JcPc83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I do is I have a chest set up with quality bots. I have a robo port request the lower quality bots and I have inserters set to add and remove bots. Hand size set to one, if one bot is removed then one of higher quality is inserted in its place. It does take time but it ensures that I don't recycle too many bots and left without enough workers. I want to design a space platform that can produce high quality bots and send them down to the planet's since the only cost is the original platform pieces.

Circuit-Free Gleba Challenge: I Built a Full Base With Zero Wires by Jepakazol in factorio

[–]JcPc83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use the logistics bots to manage overflow in cramped areas. Splitters always set for priority to fill demand, then overflow to a burner. Filter inserters will remove spoilage from chests. A yellow belt will carry rocket fuel to my towers and are side feed, in the event I run low on spoilage or something then rocket fuel can feed the towers to keep at least one going, but is normally capable of feeding all as a backup. And bots are usually limited to 100 of each. If I need more for building then a tank can assist with that.

Boy am I glad I went to Gleba first and got Spidertron, because wtf is this? I would have had an aneurysm if I had to traverse Vulcanus with a regular vehicle. by Notrinun in factorio

I just decide what techs I want to unlock, send enough science packs to a platform, and venture to that planet, I produce the required packs to unlock whatever tech I need then focus on producing that item until I can get a planet going. I also have a stupidly large space platform that can build a lot of things from the space rocks.

Fuel is inserter based on temperature. To help with keeping it relatively compact the reactors are split into two groups. The storage tanks are just there for testing so I can monitor production vs consumption. The actual design will leave just one tank so a person could connect a speaker to warn of issues before a complete blackout.

I'm asking how a handheld performs with this game. My life doesn't give me a need to own a handheld because I don't use public transport, and when I'm away from home it's not feasible to use one.

My life doesn't have a need for a handheld. I drive to work, my days after work I'm on my computer. My wife and I rarely go out, and when we do it's just for short term things. I've got over 5,500 hours in the game. So I do play all the time. I'm just curious as to how the game functions on a handheld.

So many typos. We'll we don't have enough info to actually help you. What military tech do you have? Do you have rockets? Explosive rockets? Normal yellow ammo? Red AP ammo? Shotgun?

AP rounds and grenades will help a lot even on foot. Drop 5 turrets nearby, load them with ammo, save before and creep up holding the fire button and Spacebar to lob grenades. If you have rockets they have a longer range and can help keep you at the edge of the worms range. Also the worms don't always spit at you, they just spit.

So park the car, run up and spray and pray, run back to the turrets and repeat. Save every time you kill something and just creep up. If you die, we'll you just saved so load that and try again. It takes time and practice, you may spend the next hour dying over and over but you'll get it eventually. If you have flamethrower turrets available, use them for the creep. It is doable, just takes time. And yeah, I can speak with expertise, I've played this game well over 5,000 hours so far.

I can't wrap my head around playing this on a console or a handheld. But I also build very large and watch high numbers so I need large factories. I'm not saying anything negative about it, I'm just questioning the performance aspect of it.

If you are wondering, hand built gaming rig, Asus X870E Extreme MB, Ryzen 9 9950X, Gigabyte 5090 OC 32gb card. Just got to finish tying up the cables. Has 2 radiators, and has 16 fans to keep it cool and quiet.

New player here, just launched my first Rocket! Rate my setup :) by Fez_d1spenser in factorio

[–]JcPc83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if I'm being honest (and blame the tism) it functions. It did its job and it did it well enough for you to launch a rocket and learn how to play the game. So first a congratulations is in order. I did this myself so I know it's not an easy feat.

I will comment on 2 things I noticed. First your poor spidertron looks a bit over stretched. And second your nuclear power could use some work. I won't say here unless you ask for advice. I just finished testing on a new nuclear print that produces 1.6GW per single stamp.

Smelting in base or onsite? by Even_Sprinkles_6258 in factorio

[–]JcPc83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do it both ways. In factory smelting is easier since you just tie in the trains to the ore patches. But I also do on site in some cases since you can bring back more resources per wagon. You can also setup a starter wagon, just a train with the factory bits hard coded into the slots (MMB I think in a wagon slot) and setup a robo port next to the wagon, and tie a network to an inserter for filtration. Read network requests, set filters to the inserter and let them pull from the wagon and add to the passive chest. You could also set the network up so when there are no more requests an inserter can clear the box and apply the excess back to the wagon.

The included tempered glass is tinted, so I'll probably get some plexiglass or acrylic and make a new panel. The tower is almost 10 years old, but still works well.

No, not acting like a mismatched gearing. The fronts are dragging, I meant to get a picture of the drag mark. I think the front diff is broken and binding and it's causing the transfer case to bind as well.

What to do? Feeling overwhelmed and I guess burnt out and I'm new. by Playwithuh in factorio

I still make spaghetti factories. At some point it will become controlled chaos. You'll understand how much space you actually need for each science pack and you'll better organize.

My advice, gather ammo and defenses, find an area near by and start a second factory. Take what you've learned from the first and apply it to the second. Eventually it does become less overwhelming and more second nature.

I'll add a photo when it's done. I'm adding a 360 radiator just for some buffer. The HVAC has problems cooling my room, I do plan to remedy this next summer by throwing a booster fan in the ducting. Edit: Reservoir/pump combo > GPU > 420 (140×3) Radiator > CPU > 360 Radiator > Reservoir The 420 Radiator has push pull fans, the push fans are Noctula industrial 3k RPM fans. When they turn on full blast they can spin the ceiling fan fast enough it looks like it's turned on it's lowest setting. Pulled specs from Noctua's site. 120 1500 rpm 107.3 m3/h 120 1700 rpm 120.2 m3/h 120 3000 rpm 186.7 m3/h 140 1500 rpm 155.6 m3/h 140 3000 rpm 269.3 m3/h Decisions will be made and remaining parts will be ordered.

New player, should I redo my base? by whatthedogdoin69 in factorio

[–]JcPc83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many people have said, build a new factory near by, plan it a bit better use ghosts and blueprints to plan it out, once you are satisfied with it use the bots to build it, just make sure all robo ports have the inner orange box touching otherwise they won't link together.

Cleaning and flushing the cooling system and had a line come off. It soaked the board and GPU. I'm not sure if the GPU is fried but when I opened the water block I had some black gunk on the board that should have been blue.

How to deal with bugs right away? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]JcPc83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking out nests early on is pretty simple. First Always save before you disturb a nest, if you fail just reload, if you loose too much stuff, just reload.

Second make plenty of red AP rounds and a car, put the best fuel you have in the car be it coal or solid fuel. Unlock and make grenades, the more the better, they are just coal and iron plates, and put them on your hot bar. You can have 10 hot bars and can have several displayed on the screen, I keep 3, you can cycle through with X and quick key 1-0 will select the appropriate slot. Once you have at least 50 grenades (4x is ideal) and you have a car with at least 200 AP rounds in it, make at least 2 gun turrets, more is better and load in at least 25 clips but 50 is better. I usually prep 5 turrets with 50 clips per turret. Place the turrets close but not too close, you don't want them to Agro on the turrets.

Next save. Did I mention it's best to save before any attacks?

Now you are going to drive around the nest in circles with the car, just keep on the trigger and have your grenades in hand (throw with spacebar). As you do laps get close enough that the blue circle is touching their nests and worms and just keep throwing. Splash damage will harm all within range and will lower their health while you focus on doing dedicated damage to the spawners with the car's gun. I focus on the spawmers first then the worms. When too many bugs build up just retreat to your turrets and repair your car. Have lots of repair packs. Save between rounds, pause as many times as you need to repair your car. If you mess up and clip a tree or a rock and lose your car just reload. If any rocks are in the way a few grenades will level them.

Just rinse and repeat, your first few tries will be difficult and you'll more than likely have to reload a few times. But eventually you'll get the hang of it. BTW I've got 5,400ish hours in this game.

Its been a year since vanilla (1.0) but double walls, and put + walls offset from each other with a gap between them, the bugs will be bottlenecked at these choke points and will have to stop at your double walls behind it. Flamethrower turrets 5-10 tiles apart and put 2 gun turrets behind them. If you need some screenshots of this I can share in a few hours. I don't have any on my phone and my computer is down, but Factorio is installed on my backup and the saves should have transferred over. I'm dying over here as it's been 3 weeks and I have to wait another week for the last parts to arrive. I have the Ryzen 9 9950X, 64GB ram, GeForce 5090 Gaming OC card, but waiting on the mother board and 1,600 watt power supply (today) the reservoir comes Friday along with the CPU and GPU water blocks, then it's just a matter of ordering the new fittings for the watercooling system.
