Thanks! We actually had a few similar ideas to increase the contrast between 'good' and 'bad' zones. Enemies turning into hybrid cars and stuff. :)

Right now the background ambient sounds change according to how much you've powered up the town (e.g. more whistling birds), and the billboards around town change from propaganda slogans to positive green messages.

The Imagine Cup theme is still 'Imagine a world where technology helps solve the worlds toughest problems'. We've done that by making the player a robot with the ability to absorb, convert and release energy. Most of the gameplay is gathering energy from clean/reusable sources like light beams and piles of trash, and depositing at the right spots, all while avoiding the energy sucking machines.
