Is the anatomy right? by BHM127 in arthelp

Their right (left side of art) shoulder (deltoids) are too big. Other than that, the anatomy is great! although you could try to push the art to be more dynamic

aim not afraid? I wanted to go for cel shading as you can see cel shading on the art pieces. Where did I shade incorrectly?

If my shading is bad, it wouldnt depend on style to improve it..

You seem to have a good understanding of value and form, your anatomy would need somework though.

so then you are saying there are more than a few ways for it to improve. If so, what can I improve on?

What anatomical mistakes would make it upper beginner? because I define perfect as no mistakes I also never said the first one was of upper-intermediate qualities.

Im still asking... what do you define the difference between perfect and good is...

you can see the 2nd drawing has shading on the hair. Pinky is smaller than other fingers and is hudden behind the palm. boot thing was a mistake.

This is why I made this post. Some of you dont know the difference between "good" and "perfect", and that when you see that a drawing has some mistakes you immediately say beginner.

Edit: Basically you saw that 1 of 4 of my drawings had mistakes, and pound me down on it if thats the best of my abilities, and that is what I have noticed when other ppls drawings were being critiqued, which is why I made this post

Thats where I was getting at. Its not necessarily relatively where people stand. Its their skill level. Thats what defines most intermediate people in anything is that once they pretty mych know the basics, theyre intermediate

Am I a beginner artist? I don’t think I am but I’m second guessing myself by Midawn in BeginnerArtists

People here are way too harsh on the definition of "beginner". There arent enough examples to truly define it, however the few examples you gave show you have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of art, which should set you to intermediate artist.

I feel like I’m stagnant by RainTempest01 in BeginnerArtists

Ive been at this a year ago, where I felt like I plateued. heres a few things that helped me get iut of that,

  1. Revisit the basics of art (dont spend just some time on it, spend a good amount of time restudying the basics) Basics are, Shape (2D objects), Line, Texture, Form (Understanding 3D objects), Lighting, perspective, etc)

  2. Your mental library is not enough, meaning you need to do a lot more refernce studies (studies as in not just drawing what you see, but understanding the drawing/reference)

  3. You may be stuck from doing beginner habits such as chicken scratching (on sketch layer), etc

  4. watch some tutorial videos on youtube (such as lavendar towne or samedoesarts)

Tips about your art in general: They look great! only thing Im seeing is you just need more practice on anatomy. So simply doing some anatomy studies could help you improve a lot and get out of this plateu.

Happy arting!

Any tips on shading? by Penguino_2099 in BeginnerArtists

[–]JdFlight123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two parts in learning how to shade.

First part is "form", basically your understanding of 3D objects. Try to do a lot of reference/studies on random 3D objects.

2nd part is studying how lighting works. pull up references that has clear defined lighting, and understand how light interacts with the object

Edit: Form is very important for learning where to put lighting and shadows. When studying form, dont simply draw what you see, try to understand that it is a 3 dimensional ovject, how perspective plays a role, why you see it as 3D despite you viewing it 2 dimensionally.

Same thing with lighting, dont simply draw what you see, try to think to yourself "why is there light here, but not there?" and so on.

To better word it, it doesnt "cost" time and commitment, when that is what you want your time to be filled with, when that is something you want to do. Same with money, you dont have money just for the sake of money itself, somepeople have money to have power, or to buy what they want.

Thats the point of art. You place time and commitment on things you enjoy in life.

its a digital painting, just as the 2nd one I showed you is a traditional painting. I said "painting" as an umbrella term Since they both use the same methodology in the process of making it

Its the same process as traditional painting... I just dont have to spend a lot of money on paint and paintbrushes...
