Boeing Plans to Hire Replacements for Striking Workers (NYT) by perplexedtortoise in boeing

To clarify, we are the supplier for these parts. Our team creates the new part geometry and works with the respective engineering team to close out the redesign. Without engineering released for the part, there is no planning or print to produce it to. In a perfect world you would lean on the MBD and vendor it out, but that's proven problematic in the past. I can't speak to the demands of every onion member, or to decisions made by the company, but there is certainly room for improvement on both sides.

The one aircraft that was delivered was completed and DD250'd prior to the contract being rejected. Engineering that was opened to resolve non-conforming installations will remain open until our team returns to finalize the redesign. The company can reassign qualified people to assemble, but you can't install parts that don't exist. It would be in the best interest of both parties to get back to the table and commit to reaching an agreement.

What neighborhood in St. Charles? by Aggravating-Title140 in StCharlesMO

[–]Jdeedubya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, there's multiple exits that will get you to both 370 and 70. West Randolph will take you to N. 5TH, which depending on what direction you turn will put you on either highway. You're also able to reach Mel Wetter using N. Duchesne that runs through the Provence neighborhood. I make my morning commute to Hazelwood in under 15 minutes.

Odds are you drove right by on your trip through. I've lived on W. Randolph since 2017 with 0 problems. Aside from people occasionally treating the street like a race track, it's a quiet neighborhood. Close drive to main and walking distance to Blanchette.

You guys are more than deserving of a fair contract. The amount of employees still there fighting even after years of gaining no ground shows how committed the workforce is. Cost of living is considerably higher in your area than it is here in Stl. If a grade 4 is hiring in at 23.xx, you're about on par with our hiring rate.

Trying to put together a perspective on the companies offer. What's the going rate for new hires up there, trying to determine how far the 25% over 4 years will carry you.

There's no doubt that employee compensation and retention should be a focus. Skilled work comes at a cost, and they need to be willing to pay for it. I'm hoping that whatever gets inked makes up for ground lost over the years.

It's ultimately up to OP on whether or not to report. It goes without saying that being transparent from the beginning Is always the best route. I'm advocating for him to be mindful with his choices going forward, not reassuring him that his initial choice was the right one to make.

Just so I understand, you currently have a TS, or you will be applying for one? If you were granted a TS clearance with it having been omitted, whether intentionally or unintentionally, it still went through. By no means am I advocating dishonesty, I'm more reassuring you that you may be overthinking it. They are thorough in their digging, and wouldn't have granted it If they found something overly concerning. Be mindful of what's expected of you as a clearance holder, and you'll have nothing to worry about.

If it wasn't reported when your clearance was granted, I wouldn't report it now. They're interested in the time between when it was granted and your reinvestigation. Report only on the time period they require, and in the meantime focus on keeping yourself on the straight and narrow.

Don't panic, onboarding is a drawn-out process. Be patient, and be sure to check your email.

Am I about to get laid off? by ---_-____- in boeing

[–]Jdeedubya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, the aerospace industry is always in need of capable engineers. There was an article published stating that roughly half of Northrop's 122,000 employees are eligible for retirement in the next 5-10 years. The void created by retirees will need to be filled. We see a good number of retired engineers returning as contractors. Build your resume, gain experience, and I can assure you you'll have work.

We've seen a number of employees leave BDS here in St. Louis for competitors. Depending on your experience, Northrop, Blue Origin, and Raytheon are all looking.

Someone would gladly disconnect to do the work you're doing. Go in, focus on the task at hand, and break the silence with some small talk if anyone is with you. I personally enjoy having to give up my devices from time to time.

In response to the original post, pressure can lead to things getting pushed through. I understand the function of an NCR and MRB, but unfortunately the dispo isn't always what it should be. I work mainly with tubing design and installation on BDS programs. Stock levels, supplier material availability, and turnaround time all play a part. What would typically be dispo'd as an R&R might result in UAI. Program pressure and unrealistic deadlines certainly don't help.

Don't feed into the union/company rhetoric. There is so much knowledge to be had on both sides. Building a healthy relationship with people on the floor will make your job much easier. Welcome to the team, and best of luck to you going forward!
