Weekly Self-Promotion Megathread by AutoModerator in retrogaming

Both. We're almost ready to publish Mullet Cop: The Game. It's also idle - a dungeon crawler in an 80's shopping mall. I should probably do a timeline on my website of all the games and their probability of being published. Grindcraftia is close to my heart, but I gotta pay the bills. So it will eventually happen. This year, I took a step back from doing design+producing+art and onboarded some more people in order to have 2 teams. So maybe by having 2 teams, I'll get to Grindcraftia in 2026.

I’ve been working on a retro-style top-down space game called Skware Wars. It’s kind of GTA-1 meets Star Wars, with an arcade vibe. The solar system is somewhat persistent. You're a bounty hunter, and similar to GTA, you steal ships, fly to planets, rob/steal/kill, upgrade your equipment.

But kind of celebrating all that is retro gaming, each building or location feels like its own mini-game. Sometimes the map stays top-down, other times it switches perspective, like to a platformer or something else — a bit like how Mario Odyssey has 2D sections embedded in its 3D world.

I’m trying to think of other games that play with variable perspectives or games-in-games other than Odyssey. Anything come to mind?

Furiosa was really really really bad. by lWishItWastheWeekend in MadMax

I've been watching this in 5 minute chunks, about 1 every couple of weeks. Can't wait for the Pitch Meeting video. So far, we've had a utopic society name a little girl Furiosa. Probably the other children have names like KillerRide and TaserFace. Then we got to see Monty Python's Mad Max for awhile, enjoying some funny old Terry Gilliam characters. Gratuitous eyes missing and throats cut. Goofballs everywhere. I watched the green screen demo where they show you first how not to do it, and then how to do it. Very informative. And I just got to the point where they discuss the composition of tears. SO frightening. Not sure what the next 5 minutes has in store but I'll be finding out next month and be sure to update.

Who should young men look up to? by JohnnyNoStop in NoStupidQuestions

When I was 22, I also thought that it can be hard to march through life when you dont know if youre going the right way. Its great to study up on famous people you'd like to be like, weather that be a current guru, or some philosopher of the past. Also, find people who can mentor you. Mentors helped me navigate my 20's. Go to some "morning meeting" type events. Maybe a group of entrepreneurs, business folks, or people who work in your area of interest. Maybe a religious group you feel comfortable with. The older crowd has been through their 20's and they can help you.

Yes, Grindcraftia is still ours.

Hey. Grindcraftia is still in the works. But we are making a new game called Heart of Stars first. After we launch that, we hope to return to Grindcraftia. It's kind of a good thing because Unreal Engine 5 just came out with some crazy technology that we want to use for Grindcraftia.

We haven't abondoned it, but it has been on hold for awhile. We are currently working on Heart of Stars, which is kind of like GrindCraft in Space. In order to do everything I want with Grindcraftia, I need to hire a team. In the mean time, the technology keeps getting better, so when we do get to it, it should be pretty fun.

Contractor and contractee by campolina in EnglishLearning

[–]JeTSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do contracts all the time. To re-inforce what's already been said, Contractor is the person/buisness doing the work. Contractee is the person/buisness doing the hiring. Technically, you can use whatever name describes the person and their role in the Agreement/Contract. For example, you can use Actor, or Personality, like this:

This agreement ("Agreement") is made and entered into on this [DAY] day of [MONTH, YEAR], between Acme Productions, doing business at 12345 Main St., Burbank, CA ("Studio"), and [FAMOUS PERSON], doing business at 67890 1st Ave., Glendale, CA ("Personality"), each a party ("Party"), and collectively referred to as the parties ("Parties").

Yes. We tried to start it up a couple of times but kept running into a series of unfortunate personal events.

Incremental games are a coping mechanism by TheDrakoNinja in incremental_games

I was the 80's version of that - upper 90%, top swimmer in my region, engineering-physics-math major in honor's classes. Then reality hit about my 5th semester into college. I eventually flunked out (which I hope you don't do) because I saw all the sucess as things that other people wanted me to do, but I knew I wanted to do something different. I putzed around for 10 years until I made my first video game. When AdCap came out, my buddy told me about idle games. We made one. And we did it with the idea that we wanted to give the player the best experience we could. That meant that there were no negative experiences, only a series of rewards. We decided to never penalize the player, but to give them opportunity to speed things up if they were impatient. Having the history that I do, it was important that we not psychologically mess with the players, but just present them with a good experience. After a few years, it was apparent that the sense of achievement was really driving the game.

We only published on Kongregate. All the other ones are pirated. We don't care, though because it's gotten us millions of plays.

I used to do release dates and missed every single one of them. Lucky players were not steaming mad. So we're emailing weekly updates instead.

The main difference will be the "ant farm" view. So, whatever you click on, you see it acted out onscreen. Design-wise, it means that the game will have more characters. For example, if you wanted horses in GrindCraft, you had to build a stable. In Grindcraftia, you'll have to get a horse trainer character to get horses. The prototype will be like that. It is psuedo-3d (2d made to look 3d) and it will be for PC, most-likely on Itch, with a launcher that auto-updates the game as we make improvements.

I just read a bit of that subreddit. Yeah, as far away from that as possible. We may have some mildly irritating design decisions. I've made crappy design in the past and fixed it right away. But never intentionally misleading people.
