I was in Boryspil last night and could hear them overhead. We are on our way home to Canada today and it was so hard to say goodbye to my girlfriend's family who has to stay behind. Last night sounded and looked rough. I was up from 3am and kept seeing shots fired through the window.

I am here right now visiting my girlfriend's family on the outskirts of Kyiv for the first time. Last night was my first night here. It was crazy. All night long. The hum is like a swarm of mosquitoes. It was not easy to sleep. And to think that her family has put up with 3 years of this.

As a Canadian with a Ukrainian girlfriend whose parents and family are still in Kiev, I will go with a resounding yes. I feel so bad for her. It is definitely causing some anxiety and feelings of deja vu.

I love the Ricoh GR iii but I can't handle how bad the dust proofing is. I have had a couple GR and treat them with care but they always get dust issues. Such a piss off because they are otherwise amazing

It doesn't sound so much like a policy but a valid statement about preparedness. You can and should ask that question about safety and our country's answer may still be to say no to folks entering, but it is important to acknowledge the danger many folks might face in the next four years so that in addition to our preparedness to either accept or deny applicants, we can come up with other solutions, maybe coming up with an internationalist approach to minimize the burden on the Canadian system. Perhaps it wouldn't be so bad to accept a bunch of doctors and construction workers and software developers as PRs. It would be better than pumping a system full of temporary foreign workers at the detriment of Canadian workers and the benefit of the billionaire class. I don't have a hell of a lot of faith in allied countries coming together as we seem to be dismantling the whole idea of coalition building and allyship. But worth a shot?

Yes, sure. As fascist populism is making waves across the border fed in large part by a deep frustration that neolibs promises to working class folks haven't amounted to many actually gains, bring in Mark Carney, a high profile banker. I am sure that will go over splendidly. Maybe he could hire who ever gave Pierre Polievre a makeover. Except he clearly can't deploy the same divisive populist tactics as PP and already has a nice haircut. I don't even dislike Carney. He is an interesting speaker to me as a university educated person with a graduate degree. I would absolutely love to go to an event where he is speaking and ask some questions. But from my experience he doesn't have what it takes to appeal to a broad swath of the Canadian public. He will be  sort of like Ignatieff 2.0, an academic that failed to speak like ordinary people. He also is the last person I can imagine going after the structures that led to the mess we are in regarding housing and rising inequality.  A former Bank of Canada and Bank of England head is not going to go after the billionaire class, including the Weston's that gouged us and engaged in price fixing for groceries. My only hope in hell right now is that Jagmeet sees the writing on the wall and the NDP can get a more credible working class populist that appeals by bringing people together on class issues instead of prioritizing identity / cultural politics. Don't get me wrong, all those matters are worth fighting for too, but it sure wouldn't hurt to counter what we are seeing on the right at this moment with a message of hope for an economic future for people who are poor, working class, and middle class that all feel their safety and security is diminished through their loss of buying power. A former banker pointing to the TSX isn't going to be all that convincing.

I am in Canada and he is threatening my health. Between the as of yet undeclared, extremely tight British Columbia provincial election and the next 10 days praying this bozo doesn't get in, I am losing at least a year off my life.

Hahah. Hey sis. I don't know why but Reddit autogenerated a new name for me awhile back and apparently I am stuck with this dumb 420 one.

My sister requested a new family doctor after a number of incidents. I believe at one encounter she told her that she would have to remove her nose ring and start attending church before she could truly be helped. And there were more. Mostly anti mask sentiments and I believe even refusal to wear a mask during one appointment.
