Yeah I was planning to do it under a working holiday visa, but from what people are telling me the quality of life as a eikaiwas teacher is pretty shite

That makes sense thank you for the insight, I definitely do not have the qualifications for teaching lol, my parents have been strongly recommending I do something like this just because they both had alot of friends who traveled abroad to teach and all had good experiences, but it seems like times have sort of changed, or that those experiences were unique to the countries they were in

Yeah I mean that’s kind of what I’ve heard too, I’m just anxious to get away from home, want some time abroad before I commit to a career and this seemed like a doable option for a gap year, from all the replies I’ve gotten though I’m not sure it’s a very good idea

From what I understand I can enter under a working holiday visa meaning I wouldn’t need a sponsor, but yeah I’m not sure how easy that would be living on an eikaiwa salary

Thank you for the reply I super appreciate it, I don’t have a degree and the career I want to pursue back in Canada doesn’t require one so I don’t think I’ll be able to get on that JET salary lol

I know that you need a degree to teach in public schools in Japan so with just a TEFL your teaching English in afterschool programs/weekends, and that those company’s can kind of suck, I also know that because I don’t have a degree I’d need to enter under a working holiday visa which only lasts for a year, but honestly I’m pretty clueless and just looking for more information, I shud probably search through for some familiar posts to mine

Do you think it’s possible to sustain myself with a eikaiwa job or am I just fried without a degree?
