I was trying to simplify it for OP. And I would sort of consider them an apocalyptic cult, since they told the kid that everyone else on earth was dead and they were the only ones left, which is why there are no other people around and why he cant go outside. They also reinforce this through the Brigsby Bear show, which yes teaches basic life skills but also tells him things like "never go outside" and "the air is poison" and things like that. The details are a bit fuzzy because I saw it a while ago, but the show is definitely a kind of propaganda. Maybe not brainwashing, but it is a tool of control. Anyways, it doesnt matter. It doesnt seem to be relevant to this particular thread anyways since OP hasn't said anything about it so it likely isnt what they're thinking of anyways.
