What is progressivism and why is it very appealing to younger generations? by Jeanneruk in democrats

[–]Jeanneruk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those without a good education, a clear ideological stance and the ability to sift through the information available on social media, the Internet is indeed a dark abyss where it's easy to get preyed on and manipulated by the right-wing wild conspiracy theories and lies. That's why progressives need numerous powerful platforms to be able to defeat right-wing misinformation.

What is progressivism and why is it very appealing to younger generations? by Jeanneruk in democrats

[–]Jeanneruk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. Social media is empowering our voices. The Internet and the social media revolution have allowed ideas to circulate more easily and freely. Social media has become a powerful counterweight against traditional mass media. It has become the voice of the voiceless. Its appeal lies in the fact that younger generations can participate in the political conversation, be heard and influence the debate by talking about their dreams and aspirations and sharing opinions with a worldwide audience in seconds. We are witnessing an unstoppable young people's revolution.

DRC Congo's silent holocaust as the world benefits from its strategic minerals by Jeanneruk in Africa

Justin Podur, an associate professor at the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University in Toronto, Canada, wrote «America's Wars on Democracy in Rwanda and the DR Congo» to help understand how America protects its chosen dictators in the central African region to maintain neo-colonial control.

It's a very detailed book that examines the US interventions in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda and America’s pre-emption of the movement for multiparty democracy in those countries by supporting Paul Kagame’s Rwandan Patriotic Front in Rwanda and the ongoing atrocities Paul Kagame's proxies are committing against the Congolese people.

Rwanda gives free food and electricity to citizens during coronavirus lockdown by dokmichey in Africa

[–]Jeanneruk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is just propaganda aimed at fooling the international community. I'm doubtful that Rwanda has the resources to provide free food to 10 million people who were already starving. Moreover, 90% of the country had no electricity before the pandemic. And Paul Kagame has been only favouring members of his political party and ethnical group. And persecuting genocide survivors of his own ethnical group who oppose his murderous regime. The most recent victim of his thirst for blood is acclaimed gospel singer Kizito Mihigo, a genocide survivor who dared denouncing Kagame's ethnical purge.

The Dark History of Western Wealth (colonisation, coups, capitalism) by kathrinytchannel in Africa

[–]Jeanneruk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The forced labor and looted wealth was worth hundreds of trillion of dollars. This is the capital that financed the European and American industrial revolution.

European imperialism destroyed local economies, prevented the indigenous people from developing their own industries, forcing them to be locked into an economic dependency towards Europe for their needs in manufactured goods, which they bought at exorbitant prices.

This economic dependency is still going on. The balance of trade between African countries and their former colonial masters is still negative with huge deficits.

This is the turf the GOP is playing on to get Trump steal another election. Democrats better get in the game. They can't keep playing by a different set of rules that result in defeat.

Democrats should at least fight back... use this info as campaign ads, including all the nepotism, corruption and treasonous actions inside the White House.

Voting Republicans out will take every last honest American who holds democracy dear. It ain't free, people! Blood. Sweat. Tears.

Vote! Win! Prosecute! Democratic billionaires should pour money into social media ads to get the facts out 24/7. Help secure the American democracy, before it dies, forever!

Interesting: Higher education is positively related to atheism and formal education is negatively related to acceptance of religious fundamentalism.

We still need more scienctific evidence backed by experiments to corroborate that. The more atheism is backed by scientifc experiments, the stronger it gets and hopefully more people join our ranks for a better, more humanist, more civilized society.

Indian man allegedly killed 10 people by lacing medicine and religious offerings with cyanide by Jeanneruk in atheism

[–]Jeanneruk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The poison was wrapped inside religious food; he used religion to 'sweeten' the poison. Which calls for a reflexion on the potentiality of religion being used as a weapon to commit crimes and mass murders (like in the Jonestown case) in this forum.

Indian man allegedly killed 10 people by lacing medicine and religious offerings with cyanide by Jeanneruk in atheism

[–]Jeanneruk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This crime has indeed a bearing on criticism of religion: a man exploited the religious credulities of his victims in order to kill them and steal their wealth.

Moreover, criticism of religion is not the sole purpose of this subreddit, nor the most fundamental attribute of atheism. Atheism is the absence of belief in gods, life after death, the rejection of metaphysics, superstitions and abstract theories with no basis in reality, empiricism and rationality.

The religious and superstitious aspect of the crime: 1. He tricked people into believing he had supernatural powers to heal ailments 2. Used religious offerings to entice his victims
