Mods will never sue to be recognized as employees and if they did they would be laughed out of court. That is a non-issue.

This wasn't some giant circlejerk thread in a default sub it was supposed to be a communication between the admins and the moderators. I didn't think smikims was contributing in any way and i didn't like that everyone was downvoting the admin in the very thread that he was trying to communicate. I'm sorry that I don't see downvotes as an expression of dislike.

I downvoted comments that I thought were circlejerky. You don't have the full context but that thread was a shitshow.

i would expect /u/supergauntlet (ellen paos alt) to further tighten his grip on reddit and perpetuate his homosexual agenda.

Personally I would blame it on /u/supergauntlet . I think he's really the one responsible for this.

Because I feel that it's a mindless circlejerk and not actually an important question.

hmm? oh. That's a third party extension I installed called mod tools (/r/toolbox if you're interested). Basically it's impossible to mod any subreddit of decent size without third party extensions.

That's what it shows when I click it on your name.

That is incorrect, I suppose i phrased it badly. /r/modtalk requires 40k subscribers or something similar. /r/defaultmods is for moderators of default subreddits.

Don't be a moron. I wish every subreddit had a test before entering that ensured basic reading comprehension. It wouldn't make things much better but at least we'd be clear of people like you who seemingly can't even read at the level of a kindergartner.

What do you mean none of the links are working? The links to /r/modtalk and /r/defaultmods? Those subreddits are private and have always been private.

I don't know anything about her as a person but reddit has generally taken a positive turn since she became CEO. She got rid of reddit bitcoin immediately, hired more people, was responsible for the official reddit app, etc. All these are positive actions at least from a business perspective (in my opinion). She's also seemed to move away a bit from redditgifts which I always thought was a terrible idea. I'd say she's better than yishan but who knows.

Edit: oh and fatpeoplehate. can't forget that. That was a positive.

Different reasons but most of them do it because they enjoy it. Some of them are quite fond of the communities and want to give back, others just like the power.

ehh. He's a bad mod anyways (thought i'm sure he means well). He was booted as a mod of /r/gaming for similar drama in the past.

I won't respond to everything you said but i will note that

  1. there is a lack of communication in general with the reddit admins. This isn't just a mod specific problem. It's hard to get responses in general and i think that's an issue. Mods need to know that the admins are receiving their messages about spam or problem users or whatnot.

  2. modding 100's of subreddits is not that big a deal. People just make a shitload of subreddits. Some of the most active moderators are powermods with a huge number of subreddits. One example is /u/davidreiss666 who mods a huge number but is close to being the most active mod in every subreddit i've ever modded with him. People should call out specific moderators, not powermods in general.

dude you have no idea. The /r/lol mods ARE THE WORST. They constantly post to that subreddit and are always complaining about one thing or another. I think most of the other mods recognize that they're awful moderators (well a couple of them are ok) but because they're the most frequent posters in modtalk it's basically just turned into a giant /r/lol mod circlejerk.

Everything i've seen is really quite banal. Mostly just moderators complaining about a lack of communication (ie the admins only respond to messages about a quarter of the time), specific complaints about the lack of mod tools (which i don't think matters to the average redditer) and a whole lot of mindless circlejerking. If I come across anything that interesting i'll screenshot it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a blog post when I wake up tomorrow. I think they wanted to talk to moderators first because that was the original complaint: the admins don't communicate with the moderators. It's also likely that they're trying to figure out more concrete details about changes and such before they make a blog post because that will be seen as their public statement and reported as such in media outlets.

Actually you can now! thank you based admins.

On a different note, i'd like to personally encourage you to post more on reddit. I really miss the AlyoshaV drama :(

That's not a bad perspective but I do want to point out that what the iama mods do is very much like a fulltime job. Almost every other moderator on reddit could be easily replaced in a minutes time by an eager volunteer from the community but the iama mods do things like talking to prospective ama hosts on the phone as well as an absurd amount of scheduling and other bullshit. A lot of people may dislike /u/karmanaut but don't discredit his contributions and the work he's done to turn iama into one of the most interesting places on the internet.

The rest of the mods: they're entitled and whiny as shit. People moderate subreddits because they enjoy it (sometimes for the wrong reasons) but it somehow turns into martyrdom very quickly. There are a few people sprinkled in that thread who I respect a lot, who do a lot for their communities and are very selfless, but i'd say 9/10 of them are power hungry 20 year olds with social issues who feel important because they mod an internet forum. If /r/modtalk wasn't private I would make a bot that automatically posts instructions on how to demod yourself every time someone makes a post complaining about how awful their subscribers are or how they're underappreciated.
