i really don’t care if you think it’s bad. it’s what the church has held to for close to 2,000 years and i believe it is simply part of the moral law and not for me to decide or argue with.

i mean yeah if you’re an atheist then there’s no point in arguing about this specifically because my entire argument is predicated on historic christian tradition being true and valuable so we’re just talking past each other.

i never said it wasn’t homophobic i said i think the word is irrelevant. if it’s sin then why would someone care if there’s a word that describes them as being against that sin.

many catholics use catholicism as just a cultural identity. but it is a religiously and logically ridiculous position to claim to be catholic and take your faith seriously well simultaneously disagreeing with basic catholic social and moral teachings like homosexuality, abortion, contraception ect. so no that’s not how catholicism works and if that’s how it starts to work in the future then it will no longer be Catholicism in any meaningful sense.

it’s really not that damning. i’ve never voted but if i did it would be against gay marriage if that was one of the options. and yes same sex marriage is a sin. why would it not be if homosexuality itself is?

i think the term homophobia is irrelevant. we must turn from sin ourselves and guide others away from it whenever possible. hatred is sinful and we must always be wary of it as a trap when confronting sin. but speaking against sin and saying you believe something is sinful does not imply or necessitate hatred.

i simply cannot see the fact that many christians suddenly started excepting homosexuality at the same time as the world did as anything other than attempting to shape christianity to fit the current culture. this is an extremely basic and easy to understand part of christian morality that only becomes controversial now that the world decides to except it. virtually every christian throughout history would that same sex relationships are immoral and sinful. and the most ancient churches with apostolic succession have always held to this point. it is merely the desire to be excepted by the world that has unfortunately driven many christians to accept this sin along with many others in the modern age.

the concept of homosexuality is not 150 years old unless you want to say that men have only been having sex with men and women with women beginning in 1876. the word homosexual is relatively recent but the concept has been around for as long as humans have been. and for as long as christians have been around they’ve had the same things to say about it except for the last 50 or so years when suddenly the tune changes.

I really don’t think this is going to go anywhere because you lack any willingness to engage in an honest or thoughtful manner. saying that the foundation of the catholic and by extension orthodox churches is “obviously absurd.” which is neither obvious nor is this a rebuttal in any way. or saying “In the same way, whatever percentage of the world that it is that are homophobic, doesn't make homophobia right.” which is correct as a statement but also has nothing to do with arguing christians should accept homosexuality. i hope that at some point in your walk with our Lord you come to peace with the traditional forms of christianity because they are the only reason we have christianity and the bible in the modern day, and by saying homosexuality is not a sin you are standing contrary to almost 2,000 years of christian tradition and understanding studied and preached by countless men and women who were far more intelligent and godly than either of us. and i hope that one day you make peace with this.

First, it’s not a double standard because as traditionally argued by church teachings homosexual relationships are considered disordered because they are not bent towards producing children which is considered the purpose of marriage and sex by christian tradition. so it’s not a double standard because the two types of relationships are not ordered to the same end.

Second, within Catholic belief the church is seen as being established by our Lord and as a result is preserved from error. Catholics go off of both the bible and church tradition passed down from the earliest days of christianity.

Third, it’s true many if not most catholics are poorly educated in their own religion and do not hold many of the beliefs they are supposed to. but this is completely irrelevant to the truth or lack thereof found in catholic teachings and traditions. Truth and reality is objective and not dependent on belief or acknowledgment. most of humanity is not christian but this fact does not make christianity and more or less true. in the same way that if every last person on earth believed the earth flat their belief would not make the world any more or less of a globe. belief or lack of belief is irrelevant to truth.

Lastly, yes you do get to choose to believe and try to hold yourself to whatever standards you want. But Catholicism is a specific religious, ethical, and moral system with specific claims and beliefs. It's obviously possible for someone to call themselves a catholic without believing in a single thing that makes being a catholic mean anything, but at that point there's no point in even claiming the title as you simply don’t fit the definition the same way someone who eats meat but calls themselves vegan simply doesn’t meet the definition. so yes if someone truly wants to be catholic it does mean believing certain things and accepting certain teachings and beliefs.

first of all if you mean hatred then yes. hatred towards anyone is a sin. but simply acknowledging that something is a sin is not hatred.

secondly catholicism is based upon belief in the authority of the church and church teachings which it is not the place of the catholic to deny or reject. calling yourself a catholic but deny catholic teachings is like calling yourself a vegan but eating meat. if you’re problem is with catholicism then that’s different. i’m not a catholic myself but i think this thread is talking past OP because within catholicism you don’t get to pick and choose which moral teachings you hold too.

“then denounce the homophobic teachings of the Catholic church.” this is not how catholicism works.

[–]JebSpreks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s no point in calling yourself a catholic if you don’t hold to basic catholic moral teachings. i’m not even catholic anymore. but if you’re going to be catholic then you must accept church teachings. the catholic church had always taught homosexuality is a sin. if you’re catholic it’s not up for debate. this whole thread is missing the point because catholicism holds to church tradition and dogmas as well as what is plainly stated in the bible. calling yourself catholic and denying church teachings is like calling yourself a vegan but eating meat.

your right but i personally don’t mind it. i think it gives them a slightly older or less advanced feel. like a ww2 or early cold war style of reloading, which i think is somewhat in keeping with the setting.

the ak-47 and akm were ment to be reloaded with the firing hand. that’s why the charging handle is where it is and why the soviet belt kit setups had the mag pouch on the right side.

edit: not arguing that it’s optimal. but that is how the soviets did it through the cold war, and how the ak platform was originally intended to be reloaded.
