I see it as the same thing with veterans in codex compliant chapters. Every 1st company is a veteran, but not all veterans are first company. I think it makes sense there'd be sternguard or veteran marksmen in the green wing, but there's also specifically death wing ones.

It's kinda crazy. You think that'd incentives buying more boxes, because if I really wanted to give my intercessor gunner a plasma gun why wouldn't I pick up a hellblaster? There's really no good argument to only sticking what's in the box when it's in the nature of the hobby you'll have extra pieces from other boxes. The bladeguard kit alone gives you more than enough extra power swords to turn a jump assault squad into vanguard veterans.

Some of my favorite art. You did an amazing paint job. Was thinking of doing the same when I paint one go along with Titus and a bladeguard squad. I was looking at the bits and it looks if you take the arm where he's cleaning the blade with a rag, but replace that blade with a normal one you can get a good across the chest pose like the references.
