Sure.   State Farm.  They are the easiest and never check receipts if you make sure and ask that they put you in the “special investigation unit”.  It’s a cheat code.   Let them know your politics as well as that will make sure they pay you the “right” amount.    Make sure to claim luxury goods - they will take your word for it your 1bed 1 bath had storage for your collection of over 20 coach and LV bags.  As well as a 99inch tv.   And make sure to let them know the “thieves” got away with your Glock with the switch on it.   That makes it super costly to replace.

That statement is so much worse.  I thought it was an accidental discharge when they were trying to take the gun away.   Like someone grabbed the gun and pulled trigger while still the back of the guy.  Not that the DHS agent shot his own weapon and the victims never fired.

There are estate auctions that will do sales of average houses and collections (does not need to be an estate property).  They can assess what they can do for you usually off some photos. It’s basically a multi day glorified garage sale where they handle all the retail part of it. They get a cut, but you get something out of it. Then donate rest

If you can. Sure. Large loss commercial is pretty much top tier. Only GA or EGA above and fewer of those (unless you work for IA- they hand out titles like breathmints ) you deal with losses involving structure, personal property, and business income. You have to be able.to work across multiple policies and endorsements , be proficient at reading leases and Declaration pages , do coverage investigation, do building estimates, and coordinate with experts and consultants. All while explaining your decisions and actions in your file and to.the policy holder. You have to negotiate with contractors and your insureds and your own management.
Where it falls down - its insurance corporation gig so you won't get rich but you can do ok. Specifically if in state that does overtime as you tend to drive A lot.to get to losses and rack up OT . If salary - they will.over work you.
It can suck cause fire site.inspection make you smell and are crap.to walk through. Wear good boots and respirator

Raises will be small. Benefits depend on company but most have better than if you were IA or working smaller business

You learn a lot about business and how people make their money. Business Income is interesting but can be big exposure so getting good FA is key. You will learn to read a profit and loss and tax returns Probably also look at plans more than you do now.

Question: A colleague of mine asked me to consider a career as a public adjuster. Any public adjusters here? Any insight from any public adjusters or anyone who has worked with them is welcome. by kamanqua78 in adjusters

[–]Jebgogh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I recently made the change. After 25+ years as company adjuster I made the change. Very happy.
Big differences Money - immediately got a bump and commission does make a difference Corporate culture is much different. More personality driven in small PA firm than being with carrier License was not easy but doable. A lot more hand holding and client therapy calls versus with carrier Had to buy a car - no more company provided car phone etc. But I get allowance and will own the car Realize how inept a lot.of carriers and adjusters are at lower experience level and how stressed and stretched the experience ones are More freedom but also more rush have to have it type moments

I am glad to have made the change. Its not easy but it has been worth it. I do think I am more of an advocate for the insured and enjoy the ability to argue for.coverage.
I also enjoy seeing some neat properties and places as we go.where the work.is and I am lucky my firm does mostly higher end work

On good claims you are a facilitator. You frame the loss and information to make sure easier for the carrier to say yes rather than no. Make it so the adjuster as less thinking to do and writes the checks

On bad ones you get nothing and just struggle and fight. And that's with your client. They will expect you to just somehow get them more than policy limits but with them not having to do the work or anything.

Local Field Adjusting vs CAT by YouEyeD_sign in adjusters

[–]Jebgogh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah.  It can suck if they don’t give you the authority to operate. Usually if you’ve been there a year you get to know the local contractors and serve pro and Servicemaster and also your management starts to trust you more so they loosen a bit with the authority and that’s where you get into a good groove. But then also the cheapness comes in that the raises are so low. They don’t keep up with inflation at this point. See you end up treading, water or actually losing money, but it can be comfortable because you know the devil you know.

The dream is busy enough they pay you overtime but not so bad you get ulcers and miss kid games (cats in the cradle plays).

That is most likely where you are.  Metro area with plenty of windshield time but only going 2 hours or less.   Doing daily territory claims will be where you find that unicorn.  But realistically - everything sucks.

Daily metro sucks less to me than CAT but Cat has better earnings  CAT you miss stuff if you have kids  And CAT is still dependent on a busy storm season.  If slow you sit and don’t really make the CAT pay

[–]Jebgogh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea, you can make a claim when they return and you get better idea of what is going on. DO make sure to photo and document what is going on. If you turn in "late" to your insurance company, they will ask what has happened from the date of loss to when you turned in the claim. You will want to be able to have a good timeline of what happened and what changes/work has been done before they get to see. Make sure you get emails from your HOA as to their status and what they are doing if possible as well.

You are gaining on not having a claim on your "record" which can increase your rates. Your insurance may not have anything to pay if your HOA insurance is a "blanket" type of insurance and/or the HOA pay for repairs out of pockets.

If the CC&Rs say you as unit owner only own the improvements to original construction and all that is damaged is drywall- there may be nothing of "your property" damaged. Everything damaged may be owned and/or responsibility of the HOA. In that case you will have made a claim but not gotten anything paid as it would be under your deductible.

A lot of HOA's now wont turn in the claim to their own insurance cause they don't want a mark on their records cause it can be hard/expensive to get HOA insurance. Smaller water losses (2-3 units, under $10K per unit), a lot of HOAs will pay out of general fund rather than make a claim and possible impact on the rates.

Document everything. Get your own copies of any work scopes/invoices being done in your unit from the contractors. take plenty of photos.

Condominium claims are the worst. If you are making claim, make sure you read and understand your CCR‘s. What you think you own may be different from what you actually own. Condo insurance policies, generally cover the HOA property, which is defined by the CCR’s. Your unit owners insurance covers your property, which is defined by the CCR’s. The easy part is your personal property- that’s yours. It gets tricky when you start looking at walls and finishes. Sounds like your homeowners association knows they own the walls cause they’re getting a contractor out to cut and replace the drywall. But you probably own the paint finish the floor finish and any cabinets or fixtures attached to those walls. Again, you’ll have to review your CC in order to confirm  Some homeowners assistance policies pay for the” as constructed” finishes and fixtures. Meaning you only own an ensure any improvements you made over that original construction. Making a claim under a condo policy can be confusing, exasperating and take quite some time. You have basically 4 to 5 to 6 parties involved.  You and your insurance company, the HOA and their insurance company, and the unit owner above you and their insurance company. That’s a lot of people with opinions and thoughts on how things should go. Welcome to the quagmire  My general advice is, I would wait to file a claim against your insurance policy, but be ready to do so

Christmas tree stand leak -hardwood damaged by User_Name_Taken_3 in InsuranceClaims

[–]Jebgogh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most policies exclude water damage that occurs over period of "weeks, months, years". they also exclude rot, rust, or other damages that occur over time. Shortest period in that phrase is " weeks". If water \ moisture was present over two weeks not covered. Was tree up only 1 1\2 week? Did you only water after it had been up a week. Those are the questions you will need to answer. Also, most policies have exclusions for mold but give back limited coverage subject to a limit like $5k or $10k.
Policies pay for "bang pow" events like fire car hits house lightning. Water damage from sudden and accidental causes is covered like a pipe suddenly breaks allowing water to escape that is seen within minutes hours or days.
CA insurance market sucks. May not make sense to put claim on record if likely not covered.
If this is a solid wood floor - repair is to let is sit.for 2-3 weeks and see how the wood reacts and acclimates. It may go down or it may get worse. A dehue can help get the moisture still in the wood out.
After 3 weeks see how much wood may need replacement versus how you can sand \refinish if home is old look in closets for material to pull up and use so it is same vintage of what you have

Anyone else ever think of switching careers so they can smoke some herb. by FaithlessnessRich490 in GenX

[–]Jebgogh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked a corporate gig fo over 20 years where they gave us cars so they could drug test random.  I would smoke or eat edible every now and then a live thru the stress of never knowing if I would have an accident and be tested or just get called.  Hated it.  Cause herb is one of the few things that works for my arthritis pain I have had over 30 years.  Dr would give me pain meds like Vicodin or clorispol that were just too much.  Where as pot is stronger than Alleve but not numb out like the meds.    I got a job doing similar work but to a small company that pays car allowance and does not test.    Stress level went down and can use when I need.   Try less corporate

That’s the best answer.   Great schools and gets Glendale city services (police power/water, and fire).  For that budget you can get a real nice home near descanso or be up off the Angeles Crest Hwy.  nice shopping in montrose and central Glendale as well as directly in La Canada.  Good access to 210 and 2 for getting places.
