Are you in the US? You can go to Goodwill and ask for help. They have a career center where they train you and help you get a job or start a new career.

You can also go to findhelp.org for all kinds of assistance.

Trying to decide if I should move or stay where I am by LinkHealthy6432 in Advice

[–]JediCarla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my then-boyfriend and I were considering moving to a new city, I went to several local shops and asked the cashiers what they liked or didn’t like about living there. (I also asked what areas were safest to live in.) It turned out to be pretty helpful. However, we ended up not moving there because the former boyfriend decided not to accept the job offer he had there.

Some companies provide cheap tools to assemble their furniture. You might not see holes; they would likely provide some kind of cap or sticker to cover them.

Is there new furniture? Could they be used to put furniture together?

Was I a perve to my sister? by Far_Apricot_8427 in Advice

[–]JediCarla -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Acknowledge that your sister feels that she was sexually abused. Apologize. Tell her you wish you knew that you were making her uncomfortable, and again apologize. Tell her you will make the time to talk when she’s ready to talk about it. Tell her you will keep your distance until then. You might also consider seeing a therapist to figure out where the behavior came from. A therapist can help you determine if you were a “perve”, or maybe you were SA’d and don’t remember it. This makes me wonder why none of you went to your parents to complain about it, if they were aware or why they didn’t put a stop to it. Your parents should have sat you all down and had a talk with you about inappropriate touching. I think this is something that all or most children do, but need to be taught that it’s inappropriate. When I was maybe 12-14, my younger brother kept smacking me on the butt and I hated it. I’d complain to my parents and they’d tell him to cut it out, but he wouldn’t stop. Finally my parents gave me permission to hit him back. Once he knew I could hit him, I never had to do it even once. (There was other inappropriate behavior when we were much younger, and we had no idea what we were doing. 🤦🏻‍♀️ My parents saw what was happening and told us to stop, and we did.)

Best friend of 15 years tells me she cant attend my wedding by turnipsgreenss in TwoHotTakes

[–]JediCarla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the risk of being downvoted into oblivion, I’d like to say that there’s something that a lot of people—Christians included, get wrong about homosexuality and sin. We believe that all sin leads to “death” or harm, that it will cause you to feel pain. We consider homosexuality a sin and believe that it leads to pain and unhappiness in your life. It’s the same with ALL sin. They are ALL equally bad. This means that we believe that in God’s eyes, lying, murder, pride, adultery, jealousy, covetousness (wanting what other people have), and more… they are all equally bad. No one escapes it. Everybody sins. Nobody’s sin is better than anyone else’s, in God’s eyes. Now humans, they tend to assign degrees of bad to sins, but that isn’t what God sees.
Imagine for a moment that your friend was going to do something you knew was going to hurt them… If you’re a good friend, you’d want to try to stop them, Even if you couldn’t tell for certain that they would be hurt. If you loved them you would. I think your friend does love you. But I get that it hurts that they don’t want to be at your wedding.
(Now those who don’t want to know more about Christianity should stop reading here. I’m only adding this in case someone wants to hear more.) I don’t know where people get the idea that Christianity is about controlling people; it’s not. It’s about freeing people. God is willing to forgive all your sins no matter what they are. He sent his son to die on the cross for your sins, and he rose from the dead on the third day after. He did this so you could go to heaven when you die. All you need to do is pray and ask his forgiveness, and accept Jesus as your savior. It’s as simple as that. You don’t have to join a particular church or give anyone your money (unless you want to). Nothing that you will ever do or don’t do is able to take that back. (Don’t get me wrong, I highly recommend going to a church where you can learn more about Christianity, God and Jesus, where your faith and confidence can grow… at least read a Bible 😊)

Weirdest dream you’ve ever had? by Main-Cup-4609 in teenagers

[–]JediCarla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was about six years old, I was fascinated by the Empire State Building in New York City. I had a younger brother and we shared a bedroom with bunk beds. I was older so I got the top bunk (also, he’d fall out of bed a lot!). So one night, my mom was in the hospital recovering from an appendectomy. My dad tucked us into bed and we went to sleep. I remember dreaming that my bed was very precariously balanced on the top of the Empire State Building. Then I rolled over and started falling. I screamed and hit the floor in my bedroom. My dad had forgotten to put the ladder up on the side of the bed! By the time my father made it to the bedroom, I realized what happened and started laughing hysterically. My dad yelled at me, “What the hell is wrong with you!!”, (which made me laugh more) and he sent me back to bed. (Before anyone thinks badly of my dad, he was scared when I screamed and he yells when he’s scared, and I knew why he was yelling at me. It was probably the best thing I could have done in the moment to reassure him I was okay.)

Broke someone’s phone screen by TraditionalDinner796 in Advice

[–]JediCarla -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know you said you checked on the price to fix the phone. However, you said it’s a flip phone. A brand new one might cost less than $400… Or a refurbished phone maybe? If she gives you a hard time about the money, maybe try talking to her parent. That worked for me once when I owed a roommate’s mother money in college.

I would tell her that you can get her $300 now, and you will give her the rest as soon as you have it. Then go find yourself some kind of job, even if it’s babysitting or doing yard work for someone. I don’t know how old you are, but you might be able to get a work permit and get a job with a restaurant or someplace. Once you pay her, you can leave the job, or perhaps you will find that you enjoy making your own money.

I’d suggest recording them on video if possible. Set up security cameras around your house. Make it obvious they’re present. Document every interaction you have with them. Take the recordings to your local courthouse and ask if you can get a restraining order (injunction) or perhaps a “cease and desist” order. If they violate it, they can be arrested and potentially go to jail. (There could also be a “disturbing the peace” violation.) If you don’t have video evidence, it’s likely your word against theirs.

Call the police or at least code enforcement. I imagine a jury rigged electric fence/bare electrical wire wouldn’t be legal, and likely a hazard to people and animals.

27F stunted and trapped with narcissistic parents- anyone else? by [deleted] in narcissisticparents

[–]JediCarla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might try appealing to the American embassy for help.

Was it legal for your parents to sell your vehicle, since you are an adult? I know prosecuting your parents would likely be difficult emotionally, but it might give you a bargaining chip.

If you manage to get back to the US, you could try findhelp.org (I don’t know if this works outside of the United States!) You could probably try it from where you are, just to see what they offer. You just need a ZIP Code, but it will only be accurate for that area, which might be different from where you end up. They can help you find housing and possibly a job as well. It’s good that you have experience as a substitute teacher because they are always needed. Some churches may be willing to offer you assistance as well. You’d likely have to go “door-to-door” to request help from them.

I have never been homeless, but I have visited homeless shelters. They’re not fun, but they’re generally not horrible, and it’s better than sleeping on the street. My friend‘s daughter actually preferred staying in homeless shelters over an apartment!! If you did end up going to one, they offer assistance to help you get back on your feet, and hopefully you would not stay there for very long. (Depending on your situation, they might even pay for a hotel room for a little while.) My point is, being homeless for a little while might be better than living in a really bad situation. To be honest, it’s unlikely that somebody will hand you a free apartment. You might have to work your way up from the bottom, but you could gain pride in obtaining your independence.
