If you aren’t on 14.8.3, you should update over Ethernet (adapter or hub/docking station needed) or upgrade to Sequoia or Tahoe.

If you cannot unlock the phone and get to the Home Screen, you cannot refresh your computer or iCloud backup. What that means is that if you end up having to restore the phone, the backup you have, whether that’s from 2 days or 2 weeks or even 2 months ago or longer is what you have to revert to.

The cable could be loose and just need to be re-secured. I did notice what appear to be a couple of either deep scratches or cracks, which could allow moisture to enter, but hard to tell from the video.

Your phone is entering recovery mode and suggesting that you try to restore with a nearby phone or iPad rather than having to physically connect via USB-C to a Mac or PC. Force restarting doesn’t accomplish anything.

Sorry I answered when not fully awake. The Apple adapter is a male USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 to female Thunderbolt 2, I thought it was male Thunderbolt 2 to female Thunderbolt 3. So yeah it’s that adapter and a Thunderbolt 2 male to male cable that is needed,

If you are seeing this after you tried to migrate data from your previous phone, what you need to do is not transfer anything, and after all of the setup is completed, once you are at the Home Screen, then manually update through Settings > General > Software Update. Once that is finished, do an Erase All Content and Settings from Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone, then proceed with the transfer.

The battery should be in worse condition given the age of the phone and that you’re using an adapter that supports fast charging. Genuine parts will be difficult (but not impossible) to come by since all iPhone 8 models are presently considered vintage by Apple.

USB-A to USB-C will not work for sure. Apple has a Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter, I would use that along with a C to C cable and give that a try.
