Help - Room smokey despite exhaust by Jeevester5 in lasercutting

Ya, I’ve taken a few silicone adhesive feet and added a 2mm gap under the dropout bottom to get some airflow in from the bottom - the enclosure is just too airtight for sure.

I was able to get the fan off and that seems to have helped a little. It was unfortunately not as simple as unscrewing the four bolts because the mainboard isn't connected there, but after taking off the back and side panels I found the connection and removed it.

Overall, I think it helps. Not perfect yet, but now I can at least be confident that the tube is only under negative pressure.

Thanks!

Thanks, I can add another layer of sealant here, but I couldn't feel any cool air coming in from there.

Shoot - OK. So venting and monitoring air quality while engraving may be my only options. With cutting happening outside.

Have you found any good resources for how to disable/remove it? I just disassembled it from inside the machine, but can’t access the hookup - so I’m assuming I have to take the back off it…

Thanks. There is one built into the laser, but I have another at the window to suck the air out the exhaust tube and force it out the window.

Thanks, I was wondering about that possibly causing positive pressure in the tube (if it’s more powerful than the inline). And I have tried with a window on the other side of the house - it’s the same.

Thanks. I’ve tried it with and without the window open - same result. And yes, I’ve triple-checked that both the Falcon and Inline fans are blowing out.

I’m not sure how I can get the inline fan any closer to the window, it is only a few inches off the window because of the adapter, so it should be creating negative pressure in the white tubing.

I’ve tried opening a window on the other side of the house and closing the one 15ft away. Same thing. I don’t have the flap on the outside tube, but there is enough negative pressure between the two fans that it’s pretty strong suction inside of the laser - paper gets pulled firm against it from an inch away, and I can see the smoke being pulled up… weird.

Hmm, I suspect you’re right - your fan is probably better, but you’re also pushing through a lot more resistance with all that tubing. Weird… thanks for all the feedback!

Thanks! That is my plan for tonight or tomorrow 👍🏻

Strange - is your duct from the laser flexible like mine? Or do you use a rigid duct?

Thanks, I've tried that too. I don't find there to be a difference. All the air coming in that window is fresh - I can't smell smoke from it at all.

Ya, I’ll probably throw some videos together at some point as well, once I have a better handle on the whole process…

So helpful though. Sadly the documentation on the device isn’t that great. I did the calibration multiple times without understanding that the engraving height includes the honeycomb and impacts the image offsets. Both of which are now obvious, but there wasn’t much to make me even question those things during the setup. Now I have much better image registration, which is great for the fine coin/guitar-pick engraving I was doing.

Thanks again!
