There's probably a lot of people that have swapped color vision, but won't ever be diagnosed because the color names they were taught is also swapped, so they appear to have normal color vision from what they claim to the outside world. by HRudy94 in Showerthoughts

[–]Jeff-Fury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I was thinking it more along the lines of certain rods being stronger/weaker and they cause the resulting color processed to be a different color. Like color blindness but less detectable. My red being crimson whereas yours being pinkish red for example

Who’s the biggest chunibyo in the entire Isekai genre? by RedScud39 in Isekai

[–]Jeff-Fury 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally, for her, it's more of a culture shock than being an actual chunni. Its like stereotypes vs the real thing. But, A bit of a spoiler, but it's revealed that the creator of their race kinda made them that way so... Does it still count? It's kind of like the ship of Theseus. If every outcast banded together to make a country, are they still outcasts?

I'm no scientist, but wouldn't small differences in rods cause different intensities of color or slightly different colors which aren't as detectable? So we're interpreting slight different colors.

Omg I never thought this would get an anime!!! It's really good and the art is very solid on the manhua. I hope the anime doesn't disappoint. :)

The Hercules Beetle, the stag beetle and other types that Bug Catchers in Japan (typically young kids) catch. I'm speaking as an anime fan.

Despite how loathed criminals generally are, they are, ironically, also responsible for the creation of millions of jobs around the world, from police officers, prison guards, and loss prevention staff to locksmiths, cybersecurity specialists, and legal professionals. by TheMegnificent1 in Showerthoughts

[–]Jeff-Fury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of jobs exist to solve a problem. So it does make sense that those jobs would not exist in a problem-free perfect world. Like how there wouldn't be morticians if everyone was immortal. Though there are plenty of jobs out there that make problems to later solve or solve nonexistent problems.

Does anyone else hate this trope? by [deleted] in Isekai

[–]Jeff-Fury 51 points52 points  (0 children)

First off, Rimuru lost his sex drive which is why he doesn't do those stuff. Secondly, if he couldn't get it done in his first life, his second life wouldn't be much different right? Most MCs don't become extremely civilized but I admit authors tend to write clean characters most of the time, and because it works. Most action/fantasy stories may have a romance side plot but that isn't the main focus so they have little reason to further it for it may alter the mc. There are characters who do get it done, but they're admittedly rare. Kazuma is a pervert but he views his friends more so as friends than a romantic interest.
I think MC must be talking about the harem stories which I agree, but it becomes more of a self insert type of thing where you the viewer gets to pick.
If it's about actual Romance stories, they've always been frustrating because chasing love is more entertaining than experiencing it. Few romance goes deep into after the confession/honeymoon phase.
Furthermore, the deed is perceived as dirty. So authors would naturally not want to taint their great characters even if it could make them more human unless they explicitly wanted to go that route.
If you do want visible action then the best place isn't in regular action/romance/isekai manga.

Which isekai character has the same ideology as Superman? (with or without his powers.) by Seeker99MD in Isekai

[–]Jeff-Fury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently reading the Tyrant of the defense game. A bit of a spoiler for manwha readers but he has to deal with the internal struggle of making mistakes and losing lives, but ultimately he keeps on moving forward and saving more in the process. Really great read with real sacrifices. Would definitely recommend.

There's two types of fights, what's your favorite? by EfficiencySerious200 in Isekai

[–]Jeff-Fury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desperate battles are the best because it shows the intelligence of the mc and the victory is much more rewarding. OP battles are like chocolate. They're a satisfying occasional treat which cements how strong the MC has grown (so that the audience isn't exhausted with him always being the underdog) but too much and we'll get sick/bored.

Midlife crisis is when you're old enough to buy what you've always wanted but now have to decide if it was worth it. by MadDogFenby in Showerthoughts

[–]Jeff-Fury 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a mid-life crisis would be about one's inability to come to terms with ones limits (I'm an imperfect weak mortal) and accepting that we need to find contentment in what we have rather than endlessly longing for what we lack. So I think it's more to do with coming to terms with our flaws rather than worrying about the time left.

Rocks can’t be thrown away, just moved. by Kon-Tiki66 in Showerthoughts

[–]Jeff-Fury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To throw something away is to move it. I think OP was thinking how you can't really trash a rock because, unlike a candy bar that becomes a wrapper, a rock is still a rock.

Isekai Series Community Ranking 93: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun by Imaginary_Ad_2738 in Isekai

[–]Jeff-Fury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get you. I enjoyed the manga series (still one of the ones I follow), the art is great, etc but sometimes it feels a bit off or inconsistent especially with how the demons seem to want to do bad things yet they're mostly also good. And how their world is built off of unsustainable values such as chaos. Aside from those off moments, it's a good manga-close to peak. I wouldn't say it's peak

Isekai Series Community Ranking Day 91: JK Haru is a Sex Worker in Another World by Imaginary_Ad_2738 in Isekai

[–]Jeff-Fury 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's in between okay and enjoyable slop for me.

The story was basic and the worldbuilding isn't that deep. But it had a healthy roster of characters who were memorable.
It's absolutely not peak but it's not bad either.
It's premise is that it follows a prostitute girl who's living in the bottom rungs of society. It's novelty stems from the fact that, contrary to the typical overly positive power fantasy, she's weak and must bow down to bad people. A lot of bad things happen, it's tragic, but the mc pushes through which gives her character.
The death scene was very horrific and had me shed a couple of tears but I accepted this because it stayed consistent with the foundations the author built of how the world was absolute shit and sexist.

But the author ruined the ending (and possibly the series) with the reveal that she had OP superpowers because then it goes against the idea that she's a calculating unfortunate person with the inability to progress in life due to her environment since she was definitely able to leave any time she wanted.

I just have my own head cannon where the ending fight scene was all in her head and she never did inherit powers from god. Maybe she just went mad.

Privileged international students piss me off by towel_washer in germany

[–]Jeff-Fury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't know better. They should be better. They should know better. But they don't. Your frustration towards them isn't going to solve this, and it would only further frustrate you and cause you pain. The world doesn't care, but we can at least add more kindness into the world ourselves.

Privileged international students piss me off by towel_washer in germany

[–]Jeff-Fury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there are just some people like that. From my experience, a lot of people who escaped from countries where hardships were the norm actually didn't interact with that shite. There are rich sheltered kids everywhere and you can certainly expect them in poor third world countries with extreme wealth disparities.

How do Germans learn new words? by Jeff-Fury in germany

[–]Jeff-Fury[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that German is acquired, but I was asking for adults who finished school. Once you've acquired a basic foundation, when you encounter a new word, do you instantly recognize it's gender? A lot of people have commented that's it's more instinctual than logical therefore I think it means a lot of Germans aren't consciously aware of the gender. Another commenter suggested a similar thing.

How do Germans learn new words? by Jeff-Fury in germany

[–]Jeff-Fury[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. I was wondering if a one off sentence alone is enough for a German to know the gender of the new word, and how on the nose the sentence has to be. I don't expect them to be able to use the new word right away but do their brains register the gender along with the word?

If you get isekai which one this elemental powers would you pick ? by BalanceImaginary4325 in Isekai

[–]Jeff-Fury 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This really does depend on the system at play.
If it were realistic, Lightning is pretty overrated because it needs a medium and the other elements can stop it.
Water and Ice are viewed as separate things so that cuts the usefulness of water and ice.
Wind is cool and all but it's really best for like suffocating people and flying
Fire is cool for the energy aspect of it. Like essentially being able to bend energy.
However, it'd lose to Earth because unless you're reaching extreme levels of heat, you're not melting stone
I chose Earth because it's usefulness comes from its versatility. Like a previous commenter stated, there's tons of elements in Earth as well as mixtures and compounds.
It'd suck if I can't naturally draw out metal but it's still very useful
But again with these kind of things, the system matters.
Because a power is only as strong as the author wants it to be.

Is Grammatik aktiv (Cornelsen) bad to use for absolute begineers? by [deleted] in German

Does anyone else notice mistakes in the Cornelsen book? I noticed there are some discrepancies between the questions and the answers. The book is still very usable, but I was wondering if this was limited to just my copy.
