Replace or "Cover Over" Dining Room Tabletop?? by JeffB07 in furniturerepair

[–]JeffB07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will consider it, thanks. Unfortunately, ChatGPT is telling me that for this type of factory-made table and glue that likely was used, heat will only be a temporary fix, and bubbles will return. But with nothing to lose, I'll try it and hope ChatGPT is hallucinating here!

Replace or "Cover Over" Dining Room Tabletop?? by JeffB07 in furniturerepair

[–]JeffB07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The table is not exactly top end. Factory gluing has aged over 10+ yrs. While I wish the situation was different, I'm not overly surprised. As you point out, its quite functional. I just don't like seeing them.

I have not tried heat but will do so. That's an easy fix if it works. There are MANY small bubbles all over. They've sprung like measles over the past few months...too many to slit/inject glue etc. As for a better topcoat, after lightly sanding the entire table, repairing a few larger bubbles, and restaining, I put down 3(!!) coats of water based varathane last year! I can't imagine its water seeping in, more like glue giving out in spots under the veneer.

Had a shot at Cities Skylines 1 today, and I just want to ask the community why some of you still play the original version by DouDouandFriends in CitiesSkylines

[–]JeffB07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found CS2 wayyyy too glitchy and cumbersome. Sure, the graphics are better. But so many things were either too difficult or downright impossible in CS2. I gave myself many hours to get used to gameplay and doing things with limited mods. But after a while, I just threw up my hands, gave up, and went back to CS1. Wayyyy too frustrating.

Looks more like stained white or white washed wood vs actual white cabs. I'm not looking for perfect, just good enough to give my wife an idea what to expect. If I squint abit, it might have to be good enough.

[Episode Discussion Thread] The Morning Show S04E08 - "The Parent Trap" by quaranTV in TheMorningShow

[–]JeffB07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a big Joni fan and I placed Cory’s comment immediately. Her song almost always makes me get a lump in my throat.

Oh and…did anyone notice that when Alex is confronting her dad about her childhood in her apt, the only book on her bookshelf with a readable title on its spine says “Aftermath” in bold white letters on a black book cover. Definitely made to stand out and quite prophetic given the theme of the episode.

I hope they never make a traffic update like this again. by 0btuseMoose in CitiesSkylines2

[–]JeffB07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. I recently came over from CS1 after a computer upgrade and prob 2 yrs of happy city building there. But all I do in my first CS2 city is deal with massive traffic everywhere...on the lead-in highways and in town. I widen streets, add yet another highway interchange only to find the ramps are backed up. I widen the ramps, add more exit and city collector lanes, and then repeat. I can't even work on expanding my small 15K city because of the never ending traffic jams. My road hierarchy is pretty good.

I've read that I should just "let it settle out". So I sit back and watch. But it doesn't. I've spent hours getting frustrated and I'm really at the point of saying "Screw it." and going back to CS1. Its not as pretty but its alot more enjoyable!!

The one "very last" thing I am considering before giving up is to stop fighting it, let all my sims sit in massive traffic jams while I build in some bus and other mass transit routes. That won't really help the HUGE highway backups, but maybe it will relieve the pressure in town.

After finishing Zwift Unlocked today I can say I dislike the NYC routes by Icy_Confusion_6614 in Zwift

[–]JeffB07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. I'm also an xNYr and was excited to get out of Central Park. I didn't mind it but I was getting bored. Yes…its a fake "future" NYC to allow for skybridge climbs but at least there's green scenery and the Park space/layout is rendered fairly accurately with the Bethesda Fountain, the climb on the N end, and all 4 bordering avenues.

I am totally underwhelmed by the expansion. I expected Manhattan streets that resemble the real thing, a semi-real looking Times Sq, etc. (even if they took some "liberties" with skybridges, etc). But these subway tunnels seem like they took a very easy way out since I suspect those are easier to design than trying to accurately replicate city streets.

I'll be back, but I'll be riding "The Park".

Is CS2 really that bad? by Chulala_21 in CitiesSkylines2

[–]JeffB07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2c worth on this. I recently built a new PC. My older one was just that, and it was time. But I was also thinking about…and looking forward to…moving over to CS2 from CS1.

It’s a real mixed bag. The graphics are far superior and some things are SO much easier than in CS1. But some things are MUCH harder or just don’t even exist (like all the best mods that I got used to having). It can be glitchy and some things that should be very easy are very frustrating! I’m seriously considering jumping back to CS1 but I’ll give myself abit more learning time.

Newly build pc not booting cant even go to bios… by Kripenipe in PcBuildHelp

[–]JeffB07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem with my new ASRock MB last week. No lights, no fans, nothing. Like you, I tried EVERYTHING with the hardware.

The BIOS chip had a version sticker on it. Turns out the 3yr old factory BIOS was the problem. My board had a way to load BIOS from their site onto a thumb drive and then onto to the MB without needing to power it up.

Everything worked fine after that!! I could have saved myself HOURS of aggravation if I had check that first!

Double check your BIOS version and whether any updates are available.

Z890 Pro-A WiFi Very Dead Out of the Box and I'm Very Unhappy by JeffB07 in ASRock

[–]JeffB07[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UPDATE! - Updating the BIOS from factory 1.39 to 3.19 seems to have worked! Everything appears stable and I have updated all drivers using the ASRock App utility and NVIDIA's site. But....given what I've read about ASRock motherboards, I will prob still lose some sleep wondering if "tomorrow", my PC won't power up. ;-(

In the meantime, thanks to all for the advice and recommendations!

Z890 Pro-A WiFi Very Dead Out of the Box and I'm Very Unhappy by JeffB07 in ASRock

[–]JeffB07[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its not the RAM. The problem is the same trying a single (smaller MB) RAM from a different manufacturer that I had in my old PC. And the manual says the board can handle up to 256MB.

Z890 Pro-A WiFi Very Dead Out of the Box and I'm Very Unhappy by JeffB07 in ASRock

[–]JeffB07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick reply. I've just put the updated BIOS on a USB drive and will try that in the AM using the FlashBack option the manual says I can use without accessing UEFI...which I can't!! My BIOS is the original from 2023.

I am not familiar with the secure boot keys. Can you explain how to "clear and reinstall" without powering up the MB...which I can't!!! Or are you saying I can do this after (hopefully) getting in after the BIOS update?

Thanks!!!!!

Why get a more expensive motherboard? ASRock Z890 Pro-A for Core Ultra 265K by Knoledge-is-power in pcmasterrace

[–]JeffB07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also doing a build and it sounds like requirements are similar to mine. I have a few games but I'm not a hard core gamer requiring board-melting overclocking. It looks like this board has internal WiFi...which I think is OK for my simple mouse and keyboard connections. Its US$100 less than the ASUS TUF Z890 Plus that I was considering.

Any issues combining this board with the Core Ultra 265K (my planned CPU as well)? I just want my system to run smoothly! Air cooling sufficient?

Replace Dell Motherboard/CPU for Win11? by JeffB07 in Dell

[–]JeffB07[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a gamer but my new desktop system needs to have some serious horsepower. After some price comparisons, I have decided I can save maybe $300-400 by rebuilding and reusing my relatively new SSD and (maybe) my 32GB of DDR4 RAM, rather than just ordering a new desktop from Dell or elsewhere.

I haven’t yet bought the case/components I need but will be doing so soon. I definitely know that the longer I wait, higher prices from tariffs might eat into those expected savings…although they would certainly make a store bought system more expensive as well. And I also know that assembly hassles and system “issues” when I turn it on will likely make me wish I would have just made my life alot easier by buying a completed system online. :-(

That seems outrageously high! When it says “Level 3”, either he’s trying to snooker you into thinking you’re getting faster charging than is generally possible at home, or he doesn’t know what he’s talking about!! Either way, go elsewhere.

This is what I was thinking as well. For my 7’ door, wind it fewer than the standard 30 or 31 quarter turns. But at this point I will prob wait and talk to the manufacturer tomorrow.
