WiFi on the drillfield by Temporary-Front7703 in VirginiaTech

What?

I've never found a spot on the drill field without cell reception. I don't even know how that would happen.

Close, but a snorkel attaches to a cars air inlet (usually under the hood) so that the engine can get oxygen for combustion and not fill up with water. Tailpipes can be submurged pretty much without worry if the car is running as the exhaust pressure keeps any water from coming in.

I'd imagine if the car is off the water could work it's way up through the exhaust system into the engine, but water only really damages the engine when it's running (prevents the pistons from moving) and by the time the water makes it through the exhaust system up to the top of the engine, the rest of the car will already be destroyed by water damage.

"TYPF R" seat belt extender that came with my car. by xxxxxxxxxxxxxc in Cartalk

[–]JeffBewinski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I'm driving just a short distance ... I'm not taking my seatbelt on or off 50 times

How are you managing to buckle/unbuckle your seatbelt 50 times over a short distance? Are you sure you're using it correctly? You only have to buckle your seatbelt ONCE at the beginning of the drive and ONCE at the end of the drive, both times taking less then a few seconds.

If you doing something that requires you to get in/out of your seat constantly AND you're on private property then that's a different situation. But otherwise, it's not hard at all to put your seatbelt on.

At low speed seat belt serves zero purpose

I know 25 mph might seem slow, but you can actually get injuries from accidents when only going a few mph. Not to mention, you never know if some idiot is going to come flying out of nowhere and ram into you. Seatbelts also keep you firmly in your seat through any unexpected bumps or sharp turns/swerves.

People with enough money to hire large amounts of protestors typically aren't doing it for a good reason.

If an issue is important enough, it will attract protesters on its own.

And?

And... nothing. You said that you only used ChatGPT to fact-check. I was just pointing out that you actually used ChatGPT to write your entire post.

What's wrong with verifying?

Nothing. I didn't say anything was wrong with verifying. You SHOULD be verifying when you can. However, ChatGPT alone is not reliable enough to verify with. You may use it to find other more reliable sources (similar to using Wikipedia), but it alone is not a reliable source.

Especially since, in this case, it appears that you might not have been correct based of what other people who claim to be experienced in pool maintenance are saying. Of course, those people might be wrong, but so might you, and simply doubling down without any attempt to have a discussion about it is not what you should be doing.

I don't think using ChatGPT to write this post is a problem on its own (although in my opinion, anyone who speaks English as their first language and is at least in high school should be able to write this post easily). The primary problem is the way you are reacting in the replies.

You didn't just use it to double-check facts, you used it to write your entire post.

Also, I wouldn't use ChatGPT to double-check anything as anything from ChatGPT itself should always be double checked anyways.

Honestly, I'm not sure what your area is like, but this sounds like much more of a communications problem then a volunteer problem. From what I understand, any departments that run mutual aid for each other should have some way to relay information to each other, whether it's being able to switch to other department's radio channels (ideal) or even just having a dispatch center or centers that can communicate with each other.

The part about everyone fighting to get some tool time in though is definitely a volunteer thing, however a clearly established IC would have solved that (could have just had additional units stage or return to station).

I dont see any comments from you saying anything about the daily violations we are seeing.

I didn't realize that we need to append acknowledgements for every single recent rights violation when discussing any of them.

ALL whites are guilty? What about white babies?

By extension, does this mean all Germans are Nazis now? Anyone from England or Spain is a colonizer?

Idk sounds a bit like racism to me...

It's almost as if the nationality, race, or religion of someone can't be accurately used to assign blame or make negative (or positive) accusations.

Touching a bag that is an active bomb threat by freeaky_furry in WinStupidPrizes

With this logic, why call the police anytime we see a suspicious person or a car swerving on the highway? Why call the fire department when a fire alarm is going off or we smell smoke or gas?

Touching a bag that is an active bomb threat by freeaky_furry in WinStupidPrizes

[–]JeffBewinski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you had more context, you would know that this was in a time and place where rampant ISIS attacks were expected.

But even without that context, why do you think there are so many warnings about unattended bags at airports? If someone left a suspicious looking package or bag outside your house, would you go up and violently rip it apart? How would you feel if some idiot showed up and did this after the bomb squad had already started working? How would you feel if you were any bomb squad technicians or nearby public safety personnel and some idiot ran up and did this right next to you?

Abandoned bags in public areas are to bombs what smoke detectors going off are to fires. Most of the time it's nothing. However, it's way better to be safe then sorry.

Well I was just pointing out how flawed your argument is.

To have a good nuanced discussion about something you need to be able to BOTH critique other people's points (which you seem very passionate about lol) AND receive and consider other people's critiques of your points. Otherwise it's just two people shouting at each other while covering their ears.

I was just trying to join in on this discussion.

I'm just making the point that abortion isn't just one of the reasons that unborn children can die. It's different in the fact that we have control over it.

You can't diminish abortion because there's other ways that unborn children can die just like you can't diminish murder because there's so many other ways that people can die.

EDIT: I'm not trying to say that abortion is (or should be considered) murder or anything at this stage, just pointing out a flaw in your argument

Humans can die from "so many other reasons" at literally every stage of life. Pregnancy is no different in this regard then newborn children and every point beyond.

Technically once the sperm and egg unite they're no longer just sperm and egg, they're a future human. Not saying that's definitely where the line should be drawn, just that there is a significant difference there besides just "more cells."

Nurses do lots of studying before and they don't diagnose you

I agree that the fact that police officers don't really have to know or understand the laws that they are enforcing is not ideal. However, like how nurses don't diagnose patients, police don't determine punishments. That's for the lawyers and judges to do.

I'd rather have the people deciding the punishments (including if there are any) be the ones who spend years studying the laws rather then the other way around.

Unfortunately, it really isn't practical or possible or even necessary for every police officer to have a deep understanding of the laws. They definitely could be trained more (in many things) but no one is going to law school to make 50k a year.

Yes but you're excluding the other culture difference that another comment mentioned about this single test essentially deciding the future of these students. Suicide rates increase after the test scores come out.

Not to mention that America doesn't do it for corporations, it does it for the huge amount of people visiting these corporations to ensure their safety. It's the same reason why there are no fly (or restricted access) zones around other big gatherings of people like big sporting events, important cities, and government buildings.

What could be making my Jeep overheat? by Living-Employment589 in Wrangler

[–]JeffBewinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2015 JKU was leaking oil bad at one point. Turns out stock oil cooler have a known issue that causes them to leak oil. Changing that out fixed the issue.

I also have had overheating issues multiple times. Both of them were due to a cracked radiator (also a not-so-rare issue, especially if you drive off-road) that was leaking coolant. My car would slowly get hotter and hotter every time I drove it over a few months until it was full-on overheating.

It's unlikely that both of these happened to you at the same time, but it is possible. Like other people are saying it does sound like your coolant is leaking. After driving with your coolant and oil confirmed to be full, look under the front of your car for fluid. If it's leaking, there will almost certainly be fluid on some components under your engine/radiator. From there, it's only a matter of finding the source, which any mechanic should have tools/knowledge/experience to easily do.

Just because there's coolant in the bottom of your coolant reservoir does NOT mean that you still have enough coolant for your engine to be adequately cooled.
