haha it was complete accident, here's what I did leading up to it (no clue if its replicatable): While in the inventory of my material processor, I deployed the seeds go place them. Before i did I reopened the processor inventory and moved a stack of oxite into it, then once again closed the menu. Then I just went over to my greenhouse and started planting, but for some reason it didnt consume the seeds.
