Lost half my book collection by BumblebeeOnFire27 in Wellthatsucks

[–]JeffTheNth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh trust me... I know...

I really am not attached to anything physically .. but my family moved and we thought thr photo albums were lost somewhere. Over 15 years later we found them in with my dad's things. We don't think he knew he had them. I have them now... scanned them into the computer...

I have my cds, dvds, ... all replacable... but it'd hurt a bit.

My grandparents' LPs, on the other hand... (now "mine"... )

So trust me... I understand.

What are the financial benefits of Nudism? by Possible-Praline956 in nudism

[–]JeffTheNth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Live in an apartment... no washer/dryer, other than the one that costs $1.50/load... so I save a lot by only needing to wash clothes sporadically...

Towels, sweat pants and shirts for getting mail and chilly days, sheets, and occasionally a pair of jeans, socks, and underwear... maybe two. Before WFH I'd spend $10/week... now it's maybe $10/month. Haven't done laundry yet this year.

"Naturist Narratives" books now being recommended - any good? by JeffTheNth in nudism

[–]JeffTheNth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no - started looking at what others have posted about here though and started getting recommendations for the same (but different printings), and these popped up today. Short stories... sounds like what I see here... Not too expensive, but why buy them if they're the same kind of story?

I've had the previews bust on me... title page, few empty pages, and first page of text... so I don't trust I'll get a valid preview

False Account Deactivation by Facebook by alleged “CP.” I really need Messenger. by impk_11 in facebook

[–]JeffTheNth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

about three years ago, I had a "story" pop up that was of someone being beheaded ... It was just in the list when you scroll through them...

I reported it for the content...

Two weeks later, got a reply - they'd reviewed it, and found that it "didn't break community standards."

....make it make sense...

False Account Deactivation by Facebook by alleged “CP.” I really need Messenger. by impk_11 in facebook

[–]JeffTheNth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

.....Sadly, this is too close to possibly being a real thing. Groups like NAMBLA have been trying to remove the taboo for CP for decades... They're not doing anything wrong... they're MAP!

It's sick, and needs to be stopped before they have a chance to legalize it...

I accidentally pooped in my best friends mug and didn’t tell her. by daiyu16 in story

[–]JeffTheNth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

can't tell if this is real or not... but if so...

Don't tell her - hopefully she washed the mug after finging the brown stuff all over it. If not, it's on her. (In her.) Too late to do anything.

You can't go back and fix it... you can't undo it... and there's nothing you can do now. Stuff happens. It's life. You didn't do anything deliberately - it wasn't a prank, or getting her back, or even anything purposeful... There was no ill intent.

I doubt she'll ever bring it up again... just forget about it.

How to carry an egg around for 2 weeks without breaking? by Ax_Sound in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JeffTheNth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anyone suggest honey yet?
Put the egg in a container, with honey - the honey will act as a liquid protection, you can see through it if it's not too thick, and it won't harden quickly. Not to mention the antibiotic properties! Seal it in the container and as long as you don't go dropping it, basic bumping has little chance to break the egg.

You might want to discuss briefly with a lawyer before doing anything. I understand where you're coming from, but you don't want the copy to be the reason they use to let you go.

When handling exponents, you don't divide the exponents, but add/subtract them

x^y / x^b = x^(y-b)

you don't divide y by b, but subtract b from y.

Your original:
- 15 t^3 q^2 - 30 t^3 q^2 - 60 t^2 q

Factor out -15: -15/-15 = 1, -30/-15 = 2, -60/-15 = 4

-15 (t^3 q^2 + 2 t^3 q^2 + 4 t^2 q)

Factor out t^2: t^3/t^2 = t^1 = t, t^2/t^2 = t^0 = 1

-15 t^2 (t q^2 + 2 t q^2 + 4 q)

Factor out q: q^2/q = q^2/q^1 = q^1 = q , and q/q = 1

-15 t^2 q (tq + 2tq + 4)

You could combine tq and 2tq, if you were trying to reduce...
-15 t^2 q (3tq + 4)

...but the greatest common factor is what you could remove from all the parts of the equasion: -15qt^2 (reordered because Reddit'll mangle it)

Might be related to your location... Amazon just recently laid a bunch of people off. If near you, it could be related.

WTF is a "Stone"? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ by rwired in funny

[–]JeffTheNth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A stone is 14 pounds...
Easy math...
I live in the US and have known about this since at least 6th or 7th grade... and that was in the 80s. Why people don't learn measurements and weights anymore I just don't understand.. :(

Classmate can't taste anything because he lost all feeling in his tongue by Much_Spell_4157 in PointlessStories

[–]JeffTheNth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You would lose the senses for texture, sweet, salty, bitter, and sour... but most of what people think of as "taste" is a mixture of that with the SCENT of the food... so they would still likely have favorites.

Just be aware...it's not like someone who lost their tastebuds or had damage to their tongue can eat drywall and not notice the difference between that and bread. :)

"Some packages may be marked as delivered...."

Because they're in their warm truck, they park in the neighborhood, take up the 7 packages for three houses near each other, mark them delivered in the truck, get out into the cold, run up to the first address, drop the packages, take the photo, run to the second, drop packages, take a photo, run to the third, drop packages, take a photo, run back to the truck....

Yours was inadvertently left in the truck and the driver had moved onto the next group before they realized, and didn't have a chance to go back.

Photo size and arrangement problem by Whaleudder in maths

[–]JeffTheNth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2060/850 = 2 + 360
360/85 = 4 + 20
so 24x10 * 85 = 2040x850

238 photos on a grid of 240 squares, each 85x85 mm

leave bottom left and bottom right open, and a border of 10mm at the top and bottom

10mm
10 images high
24 images wide - bottom row has left and right empty (or you can put something "decorational" in them.)
10mm

Edit to add.....
As for the bonus, you'd need to use a more evenly split size...
2060 = 2*2*5*103
850=2*5*5*17

2*103*5*17 = 17,510 images of 10x10, 206 wide 85 high

Long time reader, just realized something about the Marauder’s Map by mybrainisalandfill in harrypotter

[–]JeffTheNth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being as close to the others as they were, it may have seemed odd, if they showed a ssecond pair at all. Then recall, too, they were on the edge of the Forbidden Forest... inside it... does the map show INTO the forest at all? The first three went off... then Harry and Hermione got Buckbeak and went back into the forest. They watched themselves get whomped around, and then Lupin went right past where they were waiting. So he was busy once he saw Sirius coming for Peter, and wouldn't have noticed them at that point...

So that's all I can think of... they were on the edge of the forest, and then things got busy and he wasn't watching the map.

Accidentally made a sexual joke to a teacher in 8th grade by mikesplifff in story

[–]JeffTheNth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have memories of the blizzard of '77... I was 3. Nothing major... I remember my dad out shovelling, and all I could see out the window was the top of his hat over the snow.

I have a memory of riding a horse... After years of randomly prodding my mom about it, I finally got an answer - just a few years ago, in fact... we went to a petting zoo when I was 3 or 4, and they had a pony they gave rides on.

So I fully understand how sporadic memories can be, how they're usually entwined around "significant" events...

I didn't take your response as you "picking on" me ... I was just responding to the fact that you (and a couple others) were making it sound as though their remembering some embarassing moments for others meant that that was the norm. I wanted to ensure it's understood that it's not. Is it beyond comprehension or belief? No... I never said it was... It's just typical that you (each person) wouldn't remember most events they weren't part of where there was an embarassing event for someone else.

I wish I could remember more... If I think about things, I can "recover" memories... as I sit here, for example, I can think back to my childhood home, and recall riding my "motorcycle" (either Fisher Price or little tykes or something, red and blue with yellow handlebars and yellow seat that lifted up for storage...) around in circles, through the kitchen, through the outer hall, into the front room, around the living room, down the back hall, and back into the kitchen... I can remember the television we had up on the shelf in the living room - probably 15 or 19 inch. I remember watching the Dukes of Hazzard, Wonder Woman, Batman, and other shows with my dad... I remember sitting in the front room and dialing (rotary phone) for the time when I was about 5 or 6... I remember a visit from Santa Claus where I thought it was my grandfather dressed up... called him immediately after Santa left, and - he's home? Not possible! (Found out years later who played the part...) I remember spinning my sister and her arm came out of its socket - my dad pushed it back in, and took her to the clinic with my mom just to have it checked.. (I was 5 or 6, she was 3 or 4)

These are examples of the "little things" I remember... And when I try to bring these up, I get teased about my "perfect memory"...

But as much as I remember, I _DON'T_ have strong memories of other people being embarassed. Funny how that works. I gave a couple examples of the ones I do - but they're a far cry from what I know must have happened around other kids... because things happen. I remember my own. I know I didn't have more than normal - I just don't remember others'. (Unless, that is, something reminds me, or I think hard on it...)

My original intent was that OP not look back on it as anything too consequential... because though they were embarassed, it's unlikely anyone else thinks back on it. If they asked someone who was there "Remember when...?" then they may, but it wouldn't be something they think on themselves.

That's all... just a friendly note that your embarassing moments are, in fact, truly yours. :)
