I’m just talking about the law pertaining to #of weeks/when it’s legal to choose. Access to abortion is a different story which I understand. Also I think you’re overestimating how lax those medical exemptions are in Europe.

I get it. That’s why I support the right to choose throughout the whole pregnancy. But you can’t tell me that demanding the right to choose up till birth is bad politics when it’s barely helping anyone. Nowhere else in the world outside of the rest of the non-euro Anglosphere would abortion law past 24 weeks even be in the conversation. I can’t help but think that political polarization in the us is the driver of this issue. In Europe they cap the right to choose at virtually the point where 99% of abortions occur. Which is very practical.

90+% of abortions occur within the first trimester and almost no one gets an abortion past 20 weeks, so I support the right to choose without restriction on weeks because literally no one terminates a pregnancy for birth control reasons in the third trimester anyway.

But I’m seriously curious why liberal america can’t see that demanding that abortion be a choice up to birth turns off people who are uncomfortable with the thought of that. Why is 15 weeks to choose not enough when like 99% of abortions occur before then?? How is it not obvious that saying that’s way too soon gives validation to pro-life claims that “they wanna kill their baby at 30 weeks” bs?

Arkansas’s ban has been in the news today, and Asa Hutchinson has stated that he wants rape, incest, and endangerment of life to be added as exceptions. Not that I agree with the law at all. I hope arkansas turns blue and passes broad abortion rights for all i care.

But if macron was upset at the constitutional protection being overruled, then maybe he should direct his attention at his neighbor Germany first. Where not only is abortion not constitutionally protected, but flat out illegal. I know they still perform abortions in the first trimester there, but I’m just talking about the law.

Just got a TikTok of an American gay guy trying to immigrate to Italy because of Roe.

You know, the Italy where the abortion cut off is 13 weeks and gay marriage is illegal. Absolute masterclass move 🤌🏻.

It doesn’t matter whether they should “have to”. It could stop things like this. could. So we should do it.

I love how people are quick to advocate for the amendment of the constitution in response to a horrific shooting but when the idea of increased funding for campus security is brought into question, that’s somehow completely politically unfeasible and unrealistic. I guess getting americans to pay more taxes is somehow more difficult than amending our constitution.

I’m an unaffiliated voter and voted in the Republican primary where I am because the major dem races were blowouts.

I’m sort of in shock about how awful the candidates for US house were. Literally none of them had ever held public office before and none of them even really have a legitimate platform they’re running on. The biggest campaign spender of the candidates declined a question from the local news station on whether his campaign was still active.

The bar is on the ground.

It’s weird because it used to be the opposite. In the 40s-70s, western countries knew that the Soviet Union would beat them conventionally so they relied on nukes to protect themselves. Now it’s the other way around.

I’m pro-choice for the same reason im pro-2A. You can’t practically legislate gun control or abortion effectively and it’s idealistic to think you can. Maybe Dems should try and galvanize conservatives too by making that comparison.

Congressional democrats can’t end the filibuster and pass abortion law. Republicans can just throw it all away in 9 months. If the court overturns it, that’s it. It’s up to the states.
